3 Homework Task B - Processor Put the heading Homework Task B in your jotter with today s date and write out the following box:- Processor The processor is sometimes described as the brain of the computer as it does all the hard work including calculating, searching and sorting. The speed of a processor determines how fast a computer can work. Storage Medium Storage medium is the surface on which data is stored. For example, if you save work on to a CD then the storage medium is CD-R or CD-RW. If you store data using a hard disk drive then hard disk is the storage medium. Copy the following Computer Specification for a computer into your jotter, then copy the table below it to explain what the specification means. Below is a specification for a computer in the shops in November 20. Look at the detail contained in the specification. Let s explain this computer specification: Compaq Make/manufacturer of the computer CQ0UK Model number of the computer Dual-Core Computer has 2 processors AMD Make/manufacturer of the processor E-450 Model of the processor Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit RAM Memory Hard Drive Optical Drive Compaq CQOUK Desktop PC Dual-Core AMD E-450 Processor Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium (64bit) RAM Memory: 2GB Hard Disk: 500GB Optical Drive: DVD writer Operating System version, and in this case it also tells us it is a 64 bit Operating System Computer has 2 GB of RAM (memory) Computer has a hard drive/disk storage space of 500 GB (Backing Storage) As it s a DVD Optical drive it can read CD and DVD disks as well as write to them S ICT Hardware and Networks Homework 2 April 2
