1 Centre for Real Estate and Facilities Management University of Applied Science Kufstein Sustainable Urban Development Opportunities and Drawbacks WinterSchool 16th 21st January 2012 in Kufstein Tirol Real Estate and Facilities Management Master students from NTNU joined the international project course Sustainable Urban Development at University of Applied Science Kufstein. The so-called WinterSchool took place from 16 21st January More than 160 students from the US, China, Norway, Finland, Sweden, Germany and Austria participated. Main topics of the WinterSchool were: Demographical und social-cultural development of urbanization, zero-carbon, water consumption, zero-waste, Sustainable energy concepts, Sustainable buildings and building services, Mobility and infrastructural development, Aspects of economy and finance and cooperative organization structures. All participants had to make a preparation work. With the help of an online tool self-study material was made available. On Monday morning the students registered and received the agenda for the coming days. In addition there was a short examination to check the pre-preparation work. The WinterSchool started with the Team finding process. At the end six Bachelor- and four Master groups were multicultural mixed. The working process began with some lectures. The second day was reserved for excursions. The master students went to Munich and the bachelor students to Innsbruck. They visited sustainable building projects and joint lectures from real estate developers, architects, engineers and international companies such as "Ernst & Young". After more lectures on Wednesday the students had time to work on their projects. The group work was supervised by the international team of professors and experts in the field of real estate and facilities management. Thursday was the beginning of the 14th Facility Management & Real Estate Management Conference. A highlight was the gala dinner at the castle. The conference lasted until Friday at noon and on the afternoon the students had time to work for the project. Students presented their team work results within the final closing session on Saturday. During the WinterSchool there were different ways to enhance the own knowledge and to get more detailed information complementary to the task of the international project work. At the end of the week a lot of work within workshops, coaching times, lectures, keynote-speeches and site visits was done.
