Value Creation 2010 (VC2010), The Research Council of Norway ( ), Project member RESEARCH STATEMENT My main stream of research examines network governance, collaboration and leadership among actors and institutions engaged in territorial development, particular in relation to innovation and industrial development in regions, cities and rural areas. Most of my research is based on systems thinking where I typically study how institutions e.g. the municipality, the university, the cluster, the firm, etc. is affected, adepts and responds to external influences, e.g. new policy measures, changes in the economy, regulative regimes, etc. or to shifts in internal processes, e.g. collaboration, leadership, reorganisation, etc. An essential driver of my research is close engagement with the practice field, and I have in several projects, including my PhD work, been engaged as an action researcher. I am committed to both contribute some theory development as well as doing empirical research using a range of qualitative and quantitative methods, for instance in depth interviews to map interpretative stances among actors, focus groups to map out discourses and tensions in groups, social network analysis to map out social capital and network structures, and surveys to map out larger patterns and attitudes, etc. All of which is most often done as collaborative research efforts together with both international and Norwegian researchers.
