14 The School Day Our school day is from 8:30 3:05. The building will be open at 8:00 a.m. for students to enter. Students participate in a 25 minute KORT- Advisory Program Students attend 52 minute CORE class periods for Language Arts, Math, Social Studies, and Science
15 The School Day Students explore Active Learning Block (ALB) classes on a rotating 3 day cycle. Grade Level Lunch/Recess- 5 th Grade 40 minutes

17 KORT Advisory Period to start each student s school day 5 th through 8 th grade students /smaller setting Students stay with advisor during middle years KORT focuses on Character Education, Reading, Community Building and Academic Advising
18 SNAP (Student Needs Assistance Period)- Students are able to get support from teachers, make up labs and tests, focus on current school work, or work on reading goals. KORT Schedule Monday: Reading (Accelerated Reader)/Academic Checks Tuesday: Reading (Accelerated Reader)/Academic Checks Wednesday: SNAP- Student Needs Assistance Period Thursday: Character Education Friday: Character Education/Community Building

21 Responsive Hour The ultimate goal within the Responsive Hour is to assure the basic math and reading skills of all students while providing enrichment classes at a variety of levels for students demonstrating proficiency.
22 Responsive Hour Students who have demonstrated a need for additional assistance in the area of reading and/or math will be scheduled for classes increase time and support. Band and/or Choir is an option provided during Responsive Hour (year-long)
23 Responsive Hour Students who do not choose Band or Choir will be assigned other enrichment opportunities. Students needing support in math or reading may be able to attend both academic support and Band or Choir on a daily rotation.
24 Registration Steps All Core/ALB classes scheduled for students Responsive Hour Registration-Google Form Primarily indicating if interested in Band and/or Choir 5 th Grade Students encouraged to consider music option A Google Form will be ed to families Registration May 9 th -13 th.
25 Counseling Team Mrs. Chapman Ms. Carlson Counselor Counselor The Guidance office is a safe place for students to come when they need help. Various ways we assist students include: family issues, student conflicts, academics, social skills and any other area needed.
26 Ways to empower your child! Lockers Take time to teach your child how to open their lockers (instructions are posted in the hallways) and give them the opportunity to practice opening it until they feel confident. Locker combinations need to be kept private for your child s own protection. Schedule Review your child s schedule with them and walk through their day to locate classrooms.
27 Ways to empower your child! Passing Time Work with your student to manage the few minutes scheduled between classes. Students should try to go to their lockers every few class periods. Not necessarily after every class. The time will seem short at first, but students will become accustom to the time devoted between courses.
28 Ways to empower your child! Staff Remind them that they are not alone in feeling excited, nervous, or uncertain. We are here to help them and know that this will be a transition. Take time to have your son/daughter introduce themselves and you to their teachers. This will help them find friendly faces those first few days of school. Involvement Encourage your child to get involved with school activities! There are a number of different opportunities including both academic and athletic programs! These activities are promoted during our daily announcement, televised announcements, and our school web page.
29 Empowering Parents SchoolView/Parent Portal: Empowers parents to access information on their child s attendance, grades, lunch account, health information and discipline. Parents needing login please visit the school office to obtain login information.
30 A Shift in Communication From Friday Folders to Teacher Websites District Transition to Synergy Teacher Websites: Updated weekly and contain information regarding lessons and assignments covered and assigned during class.
