1 Session Chair and Speaker Biographies 2016 Canadian Energy Industry Updates and Insights OTTAWA February 2, 2016 Opening Keynote Address: Federal Perspectives on Energy in Canada in the year ahead Kim Rudd, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Natural Resources Canada Kim Rudd has been a lifelong entrepreneur and an advocate on the federal and provincial levels for small businesses, child care, and post secondary education. In 2011, she was named RBC s Canadian Woman Entrepreneur of the Year, and served as Vice Chair of the Ontario TCAF Secretariat. Additionally, Rudd was Founding Executive Director of the Association of Private Colleges and Vice President of the Ontario Association of Career Colleges. Rudd has also been a lifelong volunteer in organizations ranging from the United Way to Kinark Child and Family Services, heading the Regional Physician Recruitment and Retention Committee and serving as President of the Northumberland Central Chamber of Commerce. Rudd was elected as Member of Parliament for Northumberland Peterborough South in 2015, and was appointed Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Natural Resources. Energy Supply: Oil and Gas Session Chair: Mark Sherman, Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, Irving Oil Mark Sherman is Irving Oil s Vice President and Chief Operating Officer. Mr. Sherman is a proven leader and has been an integral part of Irving Oil s leadership team as General Manager of Refining and Supply. Mr. Sherman joined the company in 2008, after a 25 year career in Fort McMurray working in oil sands production. Mr. Sherman achieved a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Technical University of Nova Scotia and holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Mount Allison University. Alex Ferguson, Vice President, Policy & Performance, Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers (CAPP) As a member of CAPP s executive group, Alex Ferguson has accountability for leading the development, approval and advocacy of strategic policy positions across a diversity of complex issues within the Canadian oil and gas sector. These issues include environmental, fiscal, economic and workforce policies. Alex was previously employed with Apache Corporation, as an advisor to their New Ventures exploration group, based out of Perth, Australia. Prior to working with Apache Canada, Alex was the Commissioner & CEO of the British Columbia Oil and Gas Commission (BC OGC) the Provincial regulatory agency for the oil & gas sector within BC. Alex has extensive experience in government policy and regulatory development, both in the petroleum and forest sectors in Canada and internationally. As well as having sat on the Board of Directors for the BC OGC, Alex was also the official BC representative at the Interstate Oil and Gas Compact Commission. Alex currently resides in Calgary, Alberta with his wife and four children.

2 Chris Bloomer, President & CEO, Canadian Energy Pipeline Association Chris Bloomer has over 30 years of experience across a range of upstream, downstream, domestic and international energy businesses. He began his career at Shell Canada and moved with increasing responsibility from exploration and production to economics and corporate planning, oil sands development and operations, pipelines and oil and NGL marketing. Following his tenure at Shell, he was Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Castle Energy where he was responsible for the Canadian crude oil marketing business and US exploration, natural gas production and pipeline operations. Subsequently, he was a Founder, President and Chief Operating Officer at Talon Resources Ltd., a Latin American focused midstream/pipeline project development and crude oil marketing company. Chris then went on to spend ten years as a senior executive with Petrobank Energy & Resources, providing leadership throughout a period of significant corporate evolution for the company. Here he held the roles of Vice President Heavy Oil, Chief Financial Officer and Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer and Director. Immediately prior to joining CEPA, he was Chief Executive Officer and Director at Connacher Oil and Gas Ltd. Throughout his career, pipelines have been an integral aspect of all his business activities in Canada, the United States and Latin America, involving operation of existing pipelines and pioneering new pipelines and access to new markets for both oil and natural gas. Mr. Bloomer has a degree in Geoscience from the University of Toronto, has served on several public and private Canadian energy company boards and is a member of The Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA). Paula Dunlop, Director, Public Affairs and Strategy, Canadian Gas Association Paula Dunlop has served as the Director of Public Affairs and Strategy for the Canadian Gas Association since Reporting to CGA s President and CEO, Paula has responsibility for implementing the Association s strategic communications and government affairs efforts. Paula first joined CGA in 2003 as the association s Senior Advisor, Environment and Sustainable Growth. Prior to joining CGA, Paula served as Manager of Communications for the Canadian Fertilizer Institute. From 1998 to 2001, Paula was a government relations consultant in the Ottawa office of SAMCI, a government relations firm. At SAMCI, Paula provided strategic government affairs advice to a range of clients in the energy, agriculture, and financial services industry. Paula worked on Parliament Hill from 1995 to She was a Researcher for the Leader of the Official Opposition. Originally, from Burlington, Ontario, Paula graduated from Carleton University in 1996 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Law and English. Paula and her husband Jeff live in Ottawa with their three children. Robert Cadigan, President & CEO, Newfoundland and Labrador Oil & Gas Industries Association Robert Cadigan has been President & CEO of Noia, the Newfoundland & Labrador Oil & Gas Industries Association, since As head of Canada s largest offshore petroleum association, Mr. Cadigan leads advocacy efforts which promote development of East Coast Canada s hydrocarbon resources and facilitates members participation in global oil & gas industries. He also ensures that Noia members are informed and connected through Noia s networking, supplier development and professional development events, and through its print and electronic communications and publications. A graduate of Memorial University s Bachelor of Commerce (Co Op) program, Mr. Cadigan has also contributed to the success of a number of Newfoundland & Labrador based corporations over his career. 2

3 Mark Scholz, President, Canadian Association of Oilwell Drilling Contractors Mark Scholz became President of the Canadian Association of Oilwell Drilling Contractors (CAODC) in August CAODC represents nearly 100% of Canadian drilling contractors and 98% of service rig contractors. It is the unified voice of the Canadian drilling and service rig industry, promoting safer and more efficient operations through advocacy, communications and needed products and services. Prior to becoming President, Mark was the Manager of Technical Services within the CAODC. He had direct oversight of the various health and safety, engineering, and operational committees. He served in this role from March 2008 to August Before his involvement with the CAODC, Mark served as Chief of Staff for a member of the Alberta Legislature. Mark has degrees in economics focused on energy markets and political science from the University of Calgary. He recently completed his MBA through the Haskayne School of Business. He is also a member of the Board of Directors for Enform, the safety association for Canada s upstream oil and gas industry. Energy Supply: Electricity Session Chair: Colin Clark, Chief Technical Officer, Brookfield Renewable Energy Group Colin Clark is Chief Technical Officer of Brookfield Renewable Energy Group, where he provides global leadership of all engineering and technical aspects of the generation businesses of Brookfield. He was formerly Executive Vice President of Brookfield Renewable Power, Senior Vice President, Operations of Brookfield Power (Brascan Power), and President & CEO of Great Lakes Power Limited. Mr. Clark is a graduate in Electrical Engineering from Queen s University at Kingston, and a Licensed Professional Engineer in Ontario and British Columbia. He has more than 35 years of experience as an engineer and executive in all areas of electric power utilities operations and development. Mr. Clark has also had responsibility for the design, construction, and evaluation of many electric power generation, transmission, and distribution projects Colin holds a Master s degree in Electrical Engineering from Queen s University (Ontario, Canada), and he s a Licensed Professional Engineer in Ontario and British Columbia. He s also a member of the Governing Council of the Standards Council of Canada and a member of many other industry associations and advisory bodies. Mr. Clark is a member of the Governing Council of the Standards Council of Canada, a member of the Canadian National Committee of the International Electrotechnical Commission, a Director, Vice President, and Chair of the Governance Committee of the International Hydropower Association, a Founding Life Member, Director, and Past Chair of the Board of Directors of the Canadian Hydropower Association, member and former Chair of the Generation Council and former Director of the Canadian Electricity Association, a founder and former Co Chair of the Ontario Water Power Association, a former Director of the Association of Power Producers of Ontario, a Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), and a member of many other industry associations and advisory bodies. He is the author or co author of numerous professional papers, articles, presentations, and lectures. Mr. Clark was the recipient of the IEEE Canada R. H. Tanner Industry Leadership Medal for 2011, and in 2015 he was inducted as a Fellow of the Engineering Institute of Canada. 3

4 Sergio Marchi, President & CEO, Canadian Electricity Association The Honourable Sergio Marchi was appointed President and Chief Executive Officer of the Canadian Electricity Association (CEA) in February As President of CEA, Mr. Marchi acts as spokesperson on issues of national concern to the electric utility industry. The Honourable Sergio Marchi was elected as a Toronto City Councillor in 1982, and was subsequently elected as the Member of Parliament representing the Toronto riding of York West in During his time in the federal government, he served as Cabinet Minister in three key portfolios: International Trade; Environment; and Citizenship and Immigration. After voluntarily leaving the political arena in 1999, Mr. Marchi was appointed Canadian Ambassador to the World Trade Organization (WTO) and the United Nations (UN) Agencies in Geneva, where he served for five years. In 2003, he was nominated by the Canadian government and the UN Secretary General to serve as Commissioner on the UN Global Commission on International Migration, a position he held until Prior to joining CEA, Mr. Marchi held a number of positions in the private sector, and was a frequent public speaker and commentator on international issues, including global migration, international economy, trade, and investment. Mr. Marchi graduated from York University with an Honours Bachelor of Arts Degree in Urban Planning. He is married, with two children. John Gorman, Canadian Council on Renewable Electricity John Gorman is the President and CEO of the Canadian Solar Industries Association. He serves as Canada s Designate to the International Energy Agency (Executive Committee PVPS), and sits on the Executive Council of the Canadian Council on Renewable Energy. He has served as a director on the boards of numerous community and corporate organizations, including one of the nation s largest electric utilities. John has been recognized as one of Canada s CLEAN50 and is the recipient of the 40 Under 40 business award for excellence in business practices. John Barrett, President & CEO, Canadian Nuclear Association Dr. John Barrett is President and CEO of the Canadian Nuclear Association (CNA). His professional career includes Foreign Affairs, National Defence and the Privy Council Office; international organizations such as NATO; and policy think tanks such as the Canadian Centre for Arms Control & Disarmament. Before joining CNA, Dr. Barrett was Canada s Ambassador to the International Atomic Energy Agency, where he chaired the IAEA s Board of Governors, and was Canada s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty Organization and to the United Nations in Vienna. He has served as Ambassador to Austria and to the Slovak Republic. Dr. Barrett has a BA (Honours) and MA from the University of Toronto, and a Ph.D. from the London School of Economics. 4

5 Nicolas Muszynski, Secretary, Energy Storage Ontario Nicolas Muszynski has devoted his career to the Canadian renewable energy industry and over the last 15 years has worked on thousands of megawatts of currently operating projects across Canada including wind, solar, transmission and energy storage projects. He also serves on the Board of Energy Storage Ontario, a non profit membership based organization whose mission is to advance the energy storage industry in Ontario through collaboration, education, policy advocacy and research. Mr. Muszynski is also the Director of Energy Storage for Renewable Energy Systems in Canada and is part of the RES team devoted to developing, constructing and operating commercial energy storage projects across global markets to support a low carbon and sustainable economy. Michelle Branigan, CEO, Electricity Human Resources Council Michelle Branigan is the CEO of Electricity Human Resources Canada, a national, industry led organization whose mandate is to identify and address human resource issues facing the electricity industry, and help the industry create and sustain a skilled and diverse labour force. A human resources professional with over 15 years of experience in human resources development, project management, recruitment, curriculum development and evaluation, both in Canada and Ireland, Ms. Branigan holds a Masters degree in Training and Performance Management from the University of Leicester, United Kingdom and is a certified Project Management Professional. Ms. Branigan is currently a Board Member with the Energy Council of Canada, and a member of the Irish Film Festival Ottawa advisory committee. Before joining EHRC Ms. Branigan held positions in Enterprise Ireland, The Ontario Architects Association and The Canadian Architectural Certification Board and managed her own consultancy business She is also the recipient of the 2015 Woman of the Year Award presented by Women in Renewable Energy (WiRE). Outcomes from COP 21 Implications for Energy in Canada Fiona Jones, General Manager, Sustainability, Suncor Energy Fiona Jones is General Manager of Sustainability at Suncor Energy. In this role she has accountability for Environmental Excellence and Climate Change Strategy, Sustainability Disclosure and Community Investment. She previously held the role of Director, Energy and Climate Change Policy at Suncor Energy where she represented Suncor's interests in energy policy and evolving climate change policy at a provincial and national level. Prior to joining Suncor, Fiona held roles with Petro Canada as Director of Ethics and Compliance and Director, Corporate Responsibility. She also managed the Market Risk and Derivatives group. 5

6 Keynote Address: Insights, Thoughts and Reflections Michael Cleland, 2015 Canadian Energy Person of the Year Mr. Cleland is a private consultant with extensive experience in energy and environment policy. He is at present Senior Fellow with the University of Ottawa s Collaboratory on Energy Research and Policy, Chair of the Board of Directors at the Canadian Energy Research Institute and a member of the Board of Directors of QUEST (Quality Urban Energy Systems of Tomorrow) He is formerly President and CEO of the Canadian Gas Association. Prior to joining CGA, he was Senior Vice President Government Affairs for the Canadian Electricity Association (CEA). Before joining CEA, he was Assistant Deputy Minister (ADM), Energy Sector in the Department of Natural Resources Canada (NRCan), formerly Energy, Mines and Resources (EMR) and before that, Director General of the Energy Policy Branch. From 1987 to January 1990, he was Assistant Director, Resource Policy Division in the Department of Finance. Before joining the federal government in 1987, Mr. Cleland worked in Nova Scotia where, he was a lecturer in business/government relations at the school of Public Administration at Dalhousie University and academic editor of Plan Canada, the journal of the Canadian Institute of Planners. From 1982 to 1985, he was Associate Director of the Centre for Development Projects at Dalhousie University where he was responsible for various management training projects in Zimbabwe and the countries of the Commonwealth Caribbean. Prior to joining Dalhousie University, he occupied a number of positions at the Nova Scotia Departments of Development and Municipal Affairs.Mr. Cleland was born in Quesnel, British Columbia, and educated at the University of British Columbia (BA in political science 1972) and Queens (MPL urban and regional planning 1974). Energy Council of Canada Colin Andersen, Chair, Energy Council of Canada Colin Andersen is Chair of the Energy Council of Canada, which was established in 1923 as a founding member of the World Energy Council. The Energy Council of Canada strives to shape an affordable, stable and environmentally sensitive energy sector for the benefit of all Canadians. The Energy Council covers all sectors involved in energy in Canada, and brings together senior executives from industry and government engaged in regional, national, continental and global activities. Mr. Andersen was Chief Executive Officer of the Ontario Power Authority (OPA), responsible for ensuring a reliable, sustainable, cost effective supply of electricity for Ontario. He led the organization in its efforts to coordinate province wide conservation initiatives, plan the electricity system for the long term and procure clean supply resources. Prior to joining the OPA, Mr. Andersen held a variety of senior financial and policy positions in the Ontario Public Service, including as Deputy Minister of Finance and of Revenue; Secretary of Treasury Board; Chair of the Ontario Financing Authority; and Chair of the Ontario Electricity Financial Corporation. He also served as Deputy Minister of Policy, Cabinet Office and Acting Deputy Minister in the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care. In these and other senior management positions, Mr. Andersen provided the government with advice and assistance on all aspects of fiscal and financial policy and planning, expenditure management and overall stewardship of Ontario s financial resources. In addition, he has led strategic asset management initiatives, extensive intergovernmental negotiations at the federal and municipal level and large scale infrastructure and procurement projects. He has a Masters Degree in Economics from the University of Toronto and a Bachelor of Arts, Honours Economics from the University of Calgary. 6

7 Graham Campbell, President, Energy Council of Canada Graham Campbell was appointed President of the Energy Council of Canada on December 16, After starting in the oil and gas industry with Shell Canada Resources, Graham s career has progressed through roles in government and regulatory agencies culminating as Director General, Office of Energy Research and Development, Energy Sector with Natural Resources Canada from 1997 to Graham s earlier experience includes the National Energy Board, the Canada Oil and Gas Lands Administration, and the federal departments of Energy, Mines and Resources and Indian and Northern Affairs. Following his work at NRCan, Graham undertook policy research at the Conference Board of Canada and he led the Carleton University Sustainable Energy Research Centre as the Centre s Executive Director. In the area of international energy collaboration, he has served as the chair of the International Energy Agency s senior technology committee, and he co chaired the International Partnership for the Hydrogen Economy. Graham has a broad perspective on energy issues based on his work in a range of energy sector organizations engaged in exploration, energy regulation, technology development and policy research. 7
