2 Hindu Mission Hospital, Tambaram is a charitable institution which delivers quality medicare to the rural poor and urban people. Hindu Mission Hospital stands as a majestic landmark on Grand Southern Trunk High way at Tambaram. We are a 220 bed multi-specialty hospital functioning round the clock to serve the needy at large. After completing its many years of service, the Management desired to start a College of Nursing to fill the gap of staff. Thus was started our Hindu Mission College of Nursing The College is approved by the Government of Tamil Nadu vide their G.O.MS.No dated... The College is affiliated to the Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University and has been recognized by the Indian Nursing Council and has obtained recognition from Tamil Nadu Nurses and Midwives Council. The College aims at training professional nurses to deliver quality nursing care to individuals, families and groups, not only in health care institutions but also in homes and community and to participate in nursing administration and teaching. The College conducts the B.Sc. Nursing programme of 4 years duration. The B.Sc. Nursing programme is intended to develop the student as a person who, upon graduation will strive to fulfill their role as member of the nursing profession to uphold the dignity of the profession and to establish professional autonomy in nursing education, practice and research. Training is also geared to prepare graduate nurses to have the ability to approach health care from a broader and deeper knowledge base and from a greater capacity to apply analytic, synthetic and interpretative skills to their role.

A wide and deep reach of healthcare delivery for cure, alleviation and comfort of poor people and related activity with focus on rural areas. ELIGIBILITY FOR ADMISSION The minimum age for admission shall be 17 years at the time of admission or would complete the said age on or before 31 st December of the year of admission. The minimum educational requirements shall be the passing of Higher Secondary School Certificate Examination (12 years of study with the following subjects: Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Botony & Zoology and English) (OR) An Equivalent with 12 years schooling from a recognized board or university with science (Physics, Chemistry, Biology) and English subjects. Individual pass in Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Botany & Zoology, both theory and practical is mandatory. Candidates shall be medically fit. Only single female candidates or widows / divorcees without any encumbrances are eligible to apply.

4 MODE OF SELECTION AND ADMISSION The candidate will be notified about the personal interview. At the time of interview the candidate should have with her Secondary School Leaving Certificate, the mark list of the qualifying examination, T.C. issued by the institution last attended, and all other necessary certificates in original and the physical fitness certificate from an authorized medical officer. At the time of admission, the candidates who have passed any qualifying examination other than the higher secondary course examination conducted by the Government of Tamil Nadu should submit the eligibility certificate obtained from the Tamilnadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University, 69, Anna Salai, Guindy, Chennai by remitting the prescribed fees along with the application form which shall be downloaded from the University website. ( Registration of the candidate names with the Tamil Nadu Dr.M.G.R Medical University will be processed after admission to the B.Sc. Nursing Degree Course. The candidate will have to submit the prescribed application form along with the fee prescribed by the University. MEDIUM OF INSTRUCTION English shall be the medium of instruction for all the subjects of study and for examinations of the Bachelor of Science degree course in Nursing. PROGRAMME DETAILS The programme is spread over four years and includes internship (Integrated Practice). University examinations are conducted at the end of each year. The curriculam and the syllabus for the course shall be as prescribed by the Tamil Nadu Dr.M.G.R Medical University and is subject to modification from time to time.

5 INTERNSHIP (Integrated Practice) Internship means 8 hours of integrated clinical duties in which 2 weeks of evening and night shift duties are included in the final year. Internship should be carried out as 8 hours per 48 hours per week. Students during internship will be supervised by nursing teachers. Fourth year final examination will be held only after completing internship. ATTENDANCE No candidate will be admitted to the University Examination unless she has put in attendance not less than 80% in theory and practical in the relevant subjects every year. 240 working days in an academic year is compulsory. Since a Hands on experience is an major component of Nursing Education, students who miss any part of the clinical experience for reasons other than availing eligible sick leave will be required to compensate. A candidate must have 100% attendance in each of the practical areas before award of degree. APPRAISAL Performance of the student is assessed by the system of 1. Monthly evaluastion of academic performance (Theory and practicals) 2. Quarterly submission of internal assessment marks to the University 3. University examination at the end of each year in the subjects prescribed for the year. (25% of the internal assessment grade will be added to the external assessment grade) 4. The student is expected to maintain high standard in academic and clinical performance throughout the programme. Candidate shall submit a record of clinical work done duly attested by the Head of the College before being admitted to the examination.

6 UNIFORM & BOOKS The candidates are expected to have 5 sets of prescribed uniforms for the entire course, including 2 sets of community health nursing uniform. Students should buy the sport uniform suggested the college. When in uniform, no form of jewellery is permitted to be worn except small earrings. When in uniform hair must be put-up. The uniform prescribed by the college will be made available to the students on payment. Students are required to wear the uniform during their clinical experience. The candidates are expected to purchase the text books, note books and record books as prescribed. FEES AND PAYMENT Tuition fees and other fees of each year should be paid at the beginning of the year. The exact fees to be paid by students of all categories will be made known at the time of selection / admission. No student will be allowed to attend classes unless she complies with all the admission requirements and pays all the fees for the year. GENERAL INFORMATION Fees, once remitted, will not be refunded. Students who voluntarily withdraw from the college shall be required to pay full fees for the entire course. The college does not take any responsibility for the loss of personal property. Students who keep any valuable goods such as jewellery do so at their own risk. Vacations are planned according to the programme. If a student is not able to return on time due to illness, the Principal should be intimated immediately, followed by a written explanation. On return she should submit a medical certificate issued by a registered medical practitioner stating the full details of her illness and treatment. Normally no other leave will be given.

7 For any day of absence without prior permission, three days will have to be made up before the end of the academic year. Students are eligible for 10 days of sick leave in a year. Days availed over and above the prescribed number of sick leave will be considered as time loss. The disciplinary measures in such cases will be decided taking into consideration the individual cases. Infra structure The building comprises spacious and well ventilated classrooms, well equipped laboratories, library with all essential amenities. Faculty We have qualified and well experienced faculty, who are very sincere and dedicated to the profession. Implant training are organized and practical classes, weekly tests, monthly cycle test, model exams are conducted and the students are evaluated to assess their performance. Fundamentals of nursing lab It is the mini hospital to practice all procedures with manikin well equipped with all the necessary instruments, equipment. Community health nursing lab and field practice The lab is equipped with all necessary equipment. We have a tie up with primary health centre and community health centre to practice and provide care for people at home, school and industry. We also have nutrition lab, anatomy and physiology lab for learning as per curriculum.

8 Clinical facilities We have our own multi-speciality hospital with 220 bed for serving poor and needy and having departments like General Medicine, General Surgery, cardiology, paediatrics, nephrology, Ophthalmology, ENT, Orthopaedic, trauma care, psychiatry, dialysis, cardiothoracic surgery and gynaecology. Observational visit Field visits are arranged every year. Students are taken to various organisation accompanied by faculty members for a better exposure to advanced technology in the relevant discipline. HOSTEL The students residing in the hostel are expected to abide by the rules and regulations of the hostel and are accountable to the Warden / housekeeper. A booklet of hostel rules and regulations will be given on admission. RECREATION AND SOCIAL ACTIVITIES Recreation facilities are provided with a view of encouraging students to take interest in keeping themselves physically fit and mentally alert and in getting added vitality for meeting the demands of nursing education and practice. Participation in sports and games facilitates development of friendly competitive attitude. Students are encouraged to make use of these facilities.
