9 Location Technologies Recently geolocalized augmented reality applications are in the marketplace. In order to enable this kind of AR applications two specific technologies are used: GPS To geo-locate the user s device Magnetometer (Digital compass)- to know where the device is being pointing

10 Layar is mobile browser of a Dutch company founded in 2009 Layar is a Geo-located AR platform, designed to run on ios, Android OS and Symbian OS mobile devices We designed, in collaboration with Provincia di Roma and Ente di Gestione del Parco Regionale dell Appia Antica, an information level that can be used through layar application. The objective is to make an experiment on the impact of this state of the art technologies on Parco Appia Antica visitors.

11 But we had a problem Mobile connections through GPRS, EDGE, UMTS, HSDPA, are very expensive especially for people who should use an international data roaming.

12 so thanks to Wi-Fi WiFi is very important for visitors because using the free connection of Provincia WiFi the visitor is not charged by the mobile operator and it means that the visitor can freely use the application without care about roaming, connections, operators etc. The Augmented reality guide through Wi-Fi become a free instrument for the visitor to live his experience the way he wants and enjoy the cultural treasure in

14 In order to collect data about the impact of AR navigation technologies we designed, we will analyze data about the access to Parco Appia Antica Layer on Layar Platform and web access data to our mobile web pages hosted by our own server. It will be usefull to understand the number of people, the nationality and the kind of device and/or browser from where requests come from.
