Learners attending special needs schools and mentally challenged learners Rationale Youths: have no knowledge of world of work or expectations in adult life Parents: have little information about their children s labour market prospects Employers: do not know work capabilities of people with mental disabilities

10 Work Placement Programme (WPP) Results in Terms of Figures Has been in existence and developing since 1996 Currently running in 17 special needs schools 101 placements to date in work in approx. 28 different types of jobs 300 youths (being) dealt with in 10 years 28 of them have been placed in open labour market WPP shapes local alternative labour market services (in 5 locations)
11 WPP - Vision Adaptation to mentally disabled adults not working and living in institutions or families Accreditation of training programmes for specialists working in programme Ensuring sustainability and quality assurance (central module) Development of necessary textbooks and training aids Counselling, consultation, and supervision for schools participating in programme
12 Supported Employment Programme What is supported employment? Specially designed labour market service to promote open labour market employment of disadvantaged people Who are the target groups? People living with mental disabilities, autism, learning disabilities etc., and since 2005 partially sighted people What makes it unique? A model based on partnership enabling disabled clients to find paid work in open labour market, and employers to hire valued employees on a long-term basis What makes it successful? SEP provides customised services to employees and employers alike for whole duration of employment
13 SEP Core Principles Two customers: employee and employer Integrated employment: in normal jobs with non-disabled coworkers Regular paid work Personalised support to meet individual needs Support without time limitation Preparation for employment and in-work support: work trial, preparation of co-workers, on-the-job training, job retention A variety of choices (sheltered v integrated workplaces, capabilities, areas of interest etc.)
