1 CASE STUDY TRAINING OUTSOURCED PARTNERS THROUGHOUT ASIA FOR A GLOBAL TECHNOLOGY COMPANY

2 The Business Need Our client, one of the world s largest technology and human networking companies, underwent a major restructuring in their learning and development organisation. Prior to the reorganisation, there were 40 different training organisations within the company supporting a variety of geographically dispersed employee groups. In an attempt to enhance effectiveness, all of the training units were brought together to create a consolidated learning community. This new Learning and Development Group was given responsibility to provide training for all employees worldwide. As a part of the restructuring, the company thoroughly analysed their situation in relation to business goals to find the most efficient and cost effective approach to deliver the highest quality programs using the best-in-class suppliers. In Asia, they decided on a Training Outsourced Partners model since the company lacked the internal resources necessary to properly manage the vendors required to deliver training programs to their 10,000+ employees in the region. They sought a Training Outsourced partner that could provide a comprehensive, effective solution by supplying the intellectual property for the training programs, instructors to deliver the training programs, selected administrative services, and management of all other training vendors Specifically, they requested assistance from The Learning Factor (TLF) to provide the following required services: Training Outsourced Partners for Client Competitive delivery costs for designated course topics in English and/or local languages, as requested, including the recommended level of facilitation using TLF s tiered pricing model TLF s proven processes for course scheduling, course preparation, and quality reviews On-going course recommendations for other content areas that TLF has found to be successful with other best-in-class companies in Asia A total, integrated, flexible solution for the region that will move beyond existing practice of delivery of individual courses by a variety of training providers To serve as a value added partner sharing best practices with regard to the Asia training market and how the Client may be able to expand its training portfolio in alignment with business goals To direct learning logistics, establish mature business processes, practices, and evaluation techniques that more than meets the needs of the employees in Asia and impresses Conscientiously manage specific licensed professional skills programs to control pricing and instructional resources so they can be made available to the Client employees in Asia To customise a series of 15 training programs from Leadership Journey management suite of courses The Learning Factor s To develop and induct a pool of specialised, local, bilingual facilitators with experience in Fortune 100 companies and minimum of seven years of experience in delivery of training courses

3 The Learning Factor Approach Facilitators The Learning Factor appointed a Managing Consultant to Client who was responsible for: Allocating resources in coordination with Client resources to ensure that measurable, contracted outcomes are delivered on schedule All contract and Service Level issues Reporting requirements Grievance management Single contact point Invoicing The Learning Factor identified, in conjunction with the Client, the best fit facilitators for each program using our six level Band Table. All facilitators are classified by their relevant qualification, business acumen and commercial experience. The following represents the core competencies, skills and knowledge required of the facilitators: Minimum seven years facilitation experience Strong platform skills Confidence in the usage of audio visual equipment Commitment to being prepared, organised and giving 100% to every workshop Subject matter experts On-going development experience with numerous technologies Commitment to consistently follow the design of the workshop Commitment to help workshop participants apply the principles that they have learned to their jobs Personal and professional demeanour Ability to create and facilitate a safe learning environment The Learning Factor facilitators were carefully selected, thoroughly grounded in their disciplines, and evaluated continually. They were rigorously selected for their ability to combine creative, dynamic, and engaging presentation skills with sector experience, client-facing skills, and an understanding of L&D best practices. Each facilitator participated in The Learning Factor s Certification and Orientation Process ensuring not only the integrity of Client s programs, but also the highest possible standards of delivery for all facilitators. This orientation involves an introduction to the Client with specific time dedicated to the Learning Development strategies and Client s objectives. While the facilitators are all highly experienced in the training area, this process ensures consistency in delivery and is an opportunity to reinforce the particular values, strategy and expectations of Client. As a result, the facilitator gains a Client context for the programs that they will be delivering.

4 In general, the certification ensured the following: Understanding Client s vision and values Understanding of the corporate culture Understanding the positioning of the programs in the wider organisational context Comprehensive understanding of the programs and methodologies Clear understanding of the facilitator s role in delivering the program Finally, each facilitator s performance continues to be monitored using The Learning Factor s Facilitator Assessment Model. A holistic approach provides the most effective means of achieving quality. The Learning Factor Programs In order to continue to show an ever increasing return on investment whilst simultaneously maintaining a strategic approach to L&D, our Client made a strategic decision to find a provider that had a comprehensive suite of soft skills training programs. They elected to use The Learning Factor's training programs. These programs were customised to meet the Client s organisational needs and on an annual basis are reviewed and, if necessary, refreshed to continue to meet changing needs. The following represent the initial curriculum: Advanced Presentation Skills Communicating with Diplomacy & Tact Conflict Management Critical Thinking & Decision Making Cross Cultural Collaboration Crucial Conversations Effective Negotiation Skills Emotional Capability Exercising Influence Facilitating Effective Meetings Lateral Thinking Leading Effective Teams Power of Perception Presentation Skills Seven Habits Six Thinking Hats Success in Global Teams Think On Your Feet Time Management

5 The Learning Factor also offers logistical support, which involves: Facilitator management and scheduling Ensuring all materials for each program are printed and delivered to the designated venue Collating attendance information and relaying to the Client post-program Assessing all facilitator post-program evaluations Our Training Operations team effectively manages each individual program using project management software, which enables each step in the process to be tracked and monitored both prior to and postprogram. The Training Operations team continues to provide the necessary administrative, logistical, and instructional services to deliver requested courses throughout Asia. In addition, The Learning Factor assigned a Managing Consultant to commence the project. The Managing Consultant was an expert in learning practices with proven business acumen and unique capabilities with extensive experience managing training delivery for international clients. Our approach was to clearly understand their needs from a strategic, cultural and functional perspective The Results Reduced Development Expenses: The delivery and continual development of The Learning Factor s training courses for this region reduced expenses in development and customisation of training programs whilst still meeting required competencies Facilitator Costs Reduced and Travel Costs Eliminated: As a result of managing and utilising local instructors, facilitation costs were reduced and travel costs were eliminated Optimisation of Client Training Supply Chain: Employing The Learning Factor as Master Vendor significantly reduced the risks associated with contracting directly with small suppliers, saved time and money, and as a result optimised the Client s training supply chain Standardisation of Learning: Overall there has been standardisation of learning services, increased quality in course delivery and streamlining of the back-end processes The result is that the Client is extremely pleased with the training outsourced partnership. It has exceeded their expectations and as a result the Client has employed The Learning Factor s services into other regions across Asia Pacific.
