Series Title: Dates: Quantity: 1.1 cu. ft. (1 box and 1 oversize folder). : See Detailed Description section for box locations. SCOPE AND CONTENTS OF THE PROJECT PHOTOGRAPHS Photographs documenting the construction of the Metropolitan Wastewater Treatment Plant near Pig's Eye Lake in St. Paul, and the digging of tunnels and construction of reinforcedconcrete sewers under the streets of St. Paul and (to a much lesser extent) Minneapolis in the 1930s. Also included are general views of the plant, and photographs depicting the construction of its additions and improvements (1950s-1970s). There are 1930s-era St. Paul street scenes, including views taken near downtown and in the Rondo and Midway neighborhoods; photographs of cave-ins during tunneling operations beneath St. Anthony and Central avenues; and pictures taken along the Mississippi River between Dayton's Bluff and the treatment plant. There are photographs of pollution in the Mississippi River and of the treatment plant and vicinity during several Mississippi River floods ( ). Photographs dated 1934 through 1969 document projects of the Minneapolis-St. Paul Sanitary District, while those for 1969 through 1974 document Metropolitan Sewer Board of the Twin Cities Area projects. For six of the projects there are negatives only. A few other negatives for which there are no prints are interfiled with their respective positives. ARRANGEMENT OF THE RECORDS Divided into two sections: contracts/jobs and projects, organized by contract number, and subjects, organized alphabetically.
