1 Summer Project ECO STYLE & EUROPEAN CITIZEN Georgia Relevance of the project The project s mission is-to promote available the initiatives and non-formal education activities for young people and children from Rustavi city. The project will extend the local youth and children opportunities to realize themselves in physical and intellectual fields, and actively participate in the youth and the local project development and implementation. The main activities will be implemented in conjunction with two objectives: development of civil society and international development cooperation. The main objectives of this project are: with involvement of volunteers from Europe to support community development in Georgia; To develop cooperation with other youth organizations which are working on environmental issues and promoting healthy lifestyle; to open a world full of opportunities for local youth in Georgia; to promote cultural diversity and interaction with youth from different countries; to promote volunteer self-development, working voluntarily abroad. 1

2 As a result of this EVS 1 short-term project, young people will learn how to become active citizens, contribute their skills and time to help other people and the community outside their immediate circle of family and friends. They will also have an increased awareness of local, national and international environmental issues Moreover, the EVS volunteers will discover more about their character, strengths, weaknesses and personality, encourages self-reliance, resourcefulness and confidence in their own ability through creative play. The project is designed the way that it gives the volunteers the occasion to fully develop leadership/team work skills and ability to work with children and youth. They will also have the opportunity to experience a wide range of Eco-adventure activities. Summary of the project Host organization Georgian Youth for Europe (GYE) is going to host 15 short-term EVS volunteers for 1 month from three countries Slovakia, Netherlands and Poland. This project was developed by representatives of all 4 involved countries during Partnership building activity YES for EVS in Predeal, Rumania in march 2013 organised by the SALTO-EECA and Rumanian NA. Priority to participate will be given to young people with fewer opportunities. Project will take place in Rustavi where hosting organisation is based. About one half of the project will be implemented in Kakheti Region, where GYE is developing Youth Eco Village-Pona. The project will extend the local youth and children opportunities to realize themselves in physical and intellectual fields. Project will give the volunteers and local Georgian youth a possibility to exchange their experience, their views on numerous issues, thus breaking down any stereotypes, eliminating prejudices and experiencing similarities and differences between different European countries. Programme Project is divided into 2 main phases : First 2 week volunteers will spend in Rustavi City The major role of the volunteers is to prepare/organize activities for the Rustavi Youth and Adults. 1 EVS = European Voluntary Service, for more info go to: in- action- programme/european- voluntary- service_en.htm 2

3 To organize intercultural events - evening for the local youth. To foster young people s sense of European citizenship, to raise Volunteering awareness among Georgian youngsters with fewer opportunities and less-privileged backgrounds. Volunteers can tell or make presentations, culture days about their countries, European Union and European Citizenship, promote EVS, raise European awareness, etc. Second Half of the Project will continue in Kakheti Region where GYE is developing Youth Eco Village-Pona To assist GYE staff members/local volunteers to organize Scout Outdoor Eco-Active camp. Volunteers will be involved in different kind activities: cleaning the houses, cooking the food/helping in Kitchen, Gardening and renovation of Buildings. Promoting EVS and Volunteering among the local youth in Village Pona. Organizing outdoor cinema night for local community in Village addressing on EU and Citizenship. Food-Allowance A monthly allowance is provided by the hosting organisation to cover food expenses. Volunteers will need to prepare meal by themselves. Accommodation All the costs related to the accommodation will be supported by the hosting organisation. Volunteer share a flat with other volunteers situated in a housing estate - about 5 minutes walking distance from the town centre. Address: Vaja Pshavel str 6, 3700 Rustavi, Georgia. Flat is newly reconstructed and has really good condition for living. The volunteer will be given money to buy his own food. There is a kitchen in the volunteer flat where they can prepare meals. Shops and restaurants are close-by (a 2-5-minute walk). 3

4 Second Part of the project volunteers will spend in Village Pona, where they will need to share room with other volunteers. (3-4 person per room), Room has own toilet and bathroom. Language support and other kind of support Upon arrival, the volunteer will receive intensive Georgian language course. Already on the first day we will provide the volunteers with a SIM card with Georgian phone number. So that they could contact family, friends and also there will be free WF for internet communication. Days off per week, national and religious holidays, regular holidays Every day in host organisation volunteers will spend six hours. Voluntary will be free on Saturday on Sunday. Each month will be awarded an additional 2 weekends. Working Methods The project is open to and takes special account of young volunteer s skills and talents so that the time they spends with us will be effectively lived as an occasion to grow up and experience. The volunteers will have the task of, inside the centre, working together with professional social and cultural educators, to organize and carry out programmes for children and young people. Working Hours 6-7 hour per day. Weekend is free. Also volunteers will have 2 additional free day during the month. Project is dividing into 4 main parts: 1. Integration 2. Planning-Preparation-Implementation. 3. Activities in Youth Eco Village Pona. 4. Evaluation. 1. Integration phase (1 st week). Volunteers will have OAT organized by SALTO-EECA. Volunteers also will attend daily events/activities organized by the long-term EVS volunteers from GYE.( City Game which will helped to discover Rustavi city, Simulation workshops, Intercultural day/welcome party). 2. Planning-Preparation-Implementation (2-3 nd week, 10days). During the second week Short Term Volunteer will be in charged to prepare activities, events, workshops for the Rustavi children and youth with fewer opportunities. 3. Activities in Youth Eco Village Pona (3 rd -4 th week-10days). Volunteers will move to Kakheti Region, where GYE is developing Youth Eco Village. Volunteers will assist Georgian youngsters to create campsite area, planting the trees, renovation works, etc. Evaluation Phase- At the end of the project, GYE will run 2 day Evaluation meeting with the volunteers. 4
