1 Tech Note 634 Troubleshooting Tips for Correct Display of HMI Reports Help Files All Tech Notes, Tech Alerts and KBCD documents and software are provided "as is" without warranty of any kind. See the Terms of Use for more information. Topic#: C reated: July 2009 Introduction HMI Reports help files are produced in.swf format. This means that HMI Reports uses the Macromedia Flash Player to display the product help files. When you access the HMI Reports help files, you should see the following panels in your browser: FIGURE 1: HMI REPORTS HELP FILES However, your browser may not display the help files correctly (Figure 2 below). 1/6

2 FIGURE 2: HMI REPORTS TROUBLESHOOTING LINK When the browser appears as shown in Figures 1 or 2 (above), you can click the click here link to access the HMI Reports Help files and begin troubleshooting the display problem. However, in some cases the browser may appear completely empty. In this case there is no way to access the help system. This Tech Note provides detailed diagnostic and troubleshooting information for the case of a partial display or a blank display. Application Versions HMI Reports 3.4 Internet Explorer 7.x and later Adobe Flash Player 8.0 and later Note: This Tech Note was tested using Internet Explorer and Google Chrome Browsers. Other browsers should have similar settings but are outside the scope of this Tech Note. Problem Summary The HMI Reports Help system's partial or blank displays are caused by any of the following: The Macromedia Flash Player is missing or is an incorrect version. Browser is blocking active content. Macromedia Flash Player Security Settings are incorrect. This Tech Note provides configuration steps to allow active content display for HMI Reports help files. Procedures The following conditions can affect using HMI Reports Help files: Your Flash Player is incorrect. 2/6

3 Your browser settings do not allow Active Content. Your Flash Player Security Settings prevent seeing the content. Incorrect Flash Player Version Your browser can report that you do not have the supported Flash Player installed. When this is the case, install the current version of Flash Player from the Adobe Flash Player download site. FIGURE 3: INSTALL THE CURRENT VERSION OF FLASH PLAYER Allow Blocked Content When you open HMI Reports online help you might see a Security message appear at the top of the browser field (Figure 4 below). Click the message and select Allow blocked content.
