Tip 27 of 101: Ajwain & Saunf for Stomach Ache When you have stomach ache due to indigestion or gas, boil 1 tsp of ajwain and 1 tsp of saunf in in about 2 cups of water. Drink a 4 to 5 teaspoons every few hours to get relief. This can also be used for small children and even babies. Just reduce the quantity and the frequency of use. Get Ready for Summer 1 / 8
2 Tip 26 of 101: Cucumber & Yogurt Face Pack for Oily Skin Peel half a cucumber. Put it in a blender with 1 tbsp of plain yogurt (homemade if possible). Apply to your face avoiding eye area. Leave it on for about 20 mins and rinse gently with warm water. Tip 25 of 101: Summer Feet In warm water add 1-2 teaspoon salt. Soak your feet for 15 minutes in the water. Rub off the dead skin with a pumice stone or a hard brush. Wipe off your feet. Take 25 grams of beeswax and 50 grams sesame seed oil and warm up the mixture. Store this mixture in a tight lid glass jar. Apply this mixture to your feet to get rid of the cracks in your feet. do this for a week to see marked difference. This is useful on mild cases of Chilblains too. Please see a physician to determine the severity of the Chilblain. Tip 24 of 101: Castor Oil for Warts and Corns Apply 2-3 drops of Castor oil over the warts and massage it gently. Massage twice a day for 2 months for the warts to fall off. This also works on corns Tip 22 of 101: Lime or Lemon for Darkened Elbows, Knees and Ankles Lime or lemon for darkened elbows, knees, ankle Massage lime or lemon rind on the darkened elbows, knees or ankles. Wash it off after 15 minutes. Use this on any part of the body where the skin has become dry, hard and thick. The lemon juice helps to make the skin soft. It also lightens up that area. Tip 22 of 101: Hot water help with weight loss After each meal drink a cup of hot water (as hot as tea or coffee). However; do this only for a maximum period of 2 months and stop after that. It also helps in getting rid of gas, bloating, constipation and ameobiasis. 2 / 8
3 Tip 21 of 101: Warm water help with weight loss Warm a big coffee cup of water for 1 1/2 minutes in microwave. Add about drops of lime or lemon juice. Dissolve 1 teaspoon of honey. Drink this warm mixture the first thing in the morning on empty stomach. It helps kick start weight loss. 10 Herbal Beauty Tips Tip 20 of 101: Castor oil for eyelashes and eyebrows If you have sparse hair for eyebrows and want thicker eyelashes, massage the eyebrows and eyelashes with Castor oil. Massage it at least 2-3 times a week for a few weeks to see hair growth in the eyebrows area. Tip 19 of 101: Crows feet and other wrinkles around the eyes Take equal parts of almond oil and honey. Massage the area around the eyes with this mixture for several minutes before going to bed. Do this regularly for 2-3 weeks to see marked difference. Some are allergic to honey. If you are one of them substitute the above mixture with Olive oil. Tip 18 of 101: Tomato for dark circles under eyes Take one teaspoon tomato juice, 1/2 teaspoon lemon or lime juice and a pinch of turmeric powder. Mix it with chick pea flour and make a thick paste. Add water if needed. Apply it around the eyes. Before the mixture dries, remove it by rubbing. Wash it off with warm water. Apply this every day and see marked difference in a few days. This is also useful reducing the pores on the face. Squeeze out fresh tomato juice, do not use canned juice as it has additional chemicals that may be harmful to your skin. Make sure the paste does not get into your eye. If it does, wash your eyes immediately. Prepare the mixture fresh before you use. Do not store and reuse it. 3 / 8
4 Tip 17 of 101: Tamarind to lighten dark spots and remove tan Take brown dried tamarind and soak it in water. Squeeze it to get a paste. Apply this paste on dark spots. Wash it off after 15 minutes. Apply it over the face and neck to remove tan. Avoid using the tamrind paste since it may have preservatives added to it that may be harmful to the skin. Alternatively, take about 60 grams of tamrind and add 250 ml of water. Microwave it for 45 seconds to 1 minute. Let the mixture cool before squeezing out the paste. Refrigerate the remaining mixture. Use it every day for 2 weeks to see marked difference. Tip 16 of 101: Fresh cream for wrinkles around eyes and mouth Reduce and prevent wrinkles around your mouth and eyes by doing this. Mix either flour or corn flour in fresh cream. Apply it on face and let it dry. Wet your hands in warm water and rub off the mixture off of the face. Now wash your face with lukewarm water. Fill your mouth with water and splash you eyes with cold water. Pat dry your face. Do this before going to bed. Tip 15 of 101: Cucumber for wrinkles around eyes To reduce wrinkles around the inner and outer edges of eyes, place thin sliced fresh cucumbers on and around the eyes. Cut loner pieces and place them on your forehead. Lay on your back and try to relax and be stress free for 10 minutes. Do this daily at least once. You will see noticeable difference in 15 days. Tip 14 of 101: Papaya for wrinkles and dark spots cut a piece of ripe Papaya or apply ripe papaya pulp on the wrinkles. 4 / 8
5 Rub the ripe papaya into the wrinkles. Keep it on for 15 minutes. Wash off face with lukewarm water. Then wash it with cold water. This not only reduces wrinkles but also reduces dark spots on the skin. Tip 13 of 101: Prevent break outs Avoid break outs by applying steam to your face once a week. Soak about 10 raisins in 60 ml of water overnight. Eat these soaked raisins the first thing in the morning. Drink the water, add sugar to it if needed. This prevents the face from breaking out. Tip 12 of 101: Herbal Remedy for Zit marks Take the peels of orange family of fruits (tangerines, oranges, grapefruit etc.) and dry them in the shade. Powder them in blender. Mix the powder with rose water. Apply this mixture on the face instead of any cleanser or soap. Old Zit marks also disappear. Rose water is available at the local Indian grocery stores. Tip 11 of 101: Herbal Remedy for Zits and skin break outs on the face Take the peels of orange family of fruits (tangerines, oranges, grapefruit etc.) and dry them in the shade. Powder them in blender. Mix equal parts of the powdered orange peel and besan (chick pea flour). You may substitute besan with corn flour or multani mitti. Take 2 tablespoon of this mixture and add water to make it into a thick paste. Let it sit for 15 minutes. Apply the paste on the zits. Do not rub it in, just apply it patting it on. Keep it on for 10 minutes, then wash it off with lukewarm water. Apply it for 4-6 weeks and never ever have your face break out again. Help your body by eating 3 grams of Triphala powder with warm water before going to bed. Besan, multani mitti and triphala choorn is available at local Indian Grocery stores. 10 Herbal Remedies for Cough, Cold and Sore Throat 5 / 8
6 Tip 10 of 101: Herbal remedy for Sore Throat Black Peppers are very effective at treating sore throat. Boil a quarter teaspoon of black pepper powder in milk. Add sugar if needed. Drink the mixture while it is warm twice a day for three days. Tip 9 of 101: Herbal remedy for Cold For infants with cold, do not use vicks or other such medicines. Tie up one clove of garlic and a teaspoon of ajwain in a clean handkerchief. Smash the garlic in the pouch with a hammer. Keep this pouch where the baby can smell but cannot get to it like inside a pillow case. Stuffed nose opens up for a good night's sleep. Tip 8 of 101: Herbal remedy for Cough Soak 15 raisins (Manuka) in 250 ml water over night. Before eating anything else in the morning, eat the soaked raisins chewing them thoroughly. Drink the remaining water. This also prevents coughs. Tip 7 of 101 : Herbal remedy for Cough Cut Open raisin (Manuka) and fill it with black pepper powder. Eat such pepper powder filled raisins for 5 days and say bye bye to cough. Tip 6 of 101 : Herbal remedy for Cough 6 / 8
7 Take a quarter teaspoon of turmeric powder and mix little table salt. Throw the mixture in your mouth and drink warm water over it without tasting the mixture. It loosens the phlegm and the cough is more efficient in throwing it out. Tip 5 of 101 : Herbal remedy for Cough Ginger juice : grate the ginger on a fine grate and squeeze out the juice by putting the grated ginger in a fine cloth Honey : local wild honey if possible. This is often available at the Whole Foods or Farmers markets Take 1 teaspoon of ginger juice and 1 teaspoon of honey. Warm it over hot water in case the honey has gotten cold. Eat the mixture 3-4 times in a day for 3-4 days. For kids 1 year and older, give 2 finger full of this mixture 2-3 times in a day for 3 days. When taking this medicine try to avoid yogurt, banana, ice, rice, cold food and drinks and fried food. Tip 4 of 101 : Another Herbal remedy for Dry Cough Take a plain 'paan' (betel leaf) and put 1 gram of ajwain(trachyspermum copticum) in it. Chew the mixture to suck on its juice. Side Note: Betel leaf or the Paan is often available at most Indian Grocery Stores. This leaf has slight spicy taste and is an excellent source of natural digestive enzymes. 7 / 8
8 If betel leaf is unavailable, chew 2 grams of ajwain and drink warm water over it. Tip 3 of 101 : Herbal remedy for Dry Cough Ginger is a good remedy for a dry cough that wakes you up at night. Keep a peeled piece of ginger in the mouth and suck on it before going to bed. Tip 2 of 101: Herbal remedy for Cold and Runny Noses...contributed by Madhura Deshpande Want to get rid of cold and runny nose? Try ginger-pepper water in your coffee and tea. This is also a safe remedy for babies and kids to help avoid ear infections. Heat a bowl of water in microwave for a minute, add a small piece (about half an inch) of dry ginger and 5 to 6 whole black peppercorns. Let it stand for about an hour. Strain the liquid and store in refrigerator. For adults, add a couple of tsps to warm beverages or about 1/2 to 1 tsp to baby/kids milk. Tip 1 of 101 : Herbal remedy for Cough Honey works as good as Robitussin on cough. A word of caution, do not give honey to children younger than one year old which can cause in rare cases often fatal form of botulism.
