1 LarryBoy and the Rumor Weed Any rumors caught your ear lately? Junior Asparagus and Laura Carrot learn just how easily rumors get started when they accidentally launch a whopper about LarryBoy s butler, Alfred. Before they know it, their little story is spreading all over Bumblyburg like a weed! Can LarryBoy stop the rumor before Alfred gets hurt? Can anyone stop the rumor before LarryBoy gets hurt?! In the end, the kids learn that God doesn t want us to tell stories that can hurt. He wants us to spread nice words! Because this lapbook (pictured below) is specially created to be used with the VeggieTales movie, LarryBoy and the Rumor Weed, both lapbook AND movie are required to do this lapbook. 2 Things to Know Hamburger Fold-Fold horizontally Hotdog Fold-Fold vertically Dotted Lines-These are the cutting lines Accordion Fold-This fold is like making a paper fan. Fold on the first line so that title is on top. Turn over and fold on next line so that title is on top again. Turn over again and fold again on the next line so that title is on top. Continue until all folds are done. Cover Labels-Most of the booklets that are folded look nicer with a label on top instead of just a blank space. They will be referred to as cover label. A booklet placement key is at the top of every booklet page. This key shows where that particular booklet will go in that folder. Folder 1 A photo of the completed lapbook is on the last page How do I know where to place each booklet in the lapbook? This placement key tells you the booklet goes in the first folder at the top of the left flap. How do I use the video with the lapbook? First and most important, let your child watch the video without interruption. Your child can begin the lapbook at any time once the uninterrupted session of the video is complete. As you work through the lapbook, pause the video when it gets to the subject matter that is covered in each booklet. We make every effort to cover the subject matter in the lapbook sequentially with the movie. Or, you may choose to let your child work through the lapbook after watching the video in its entirety first. The lapbook will take several days to complete, so you may want your child to watch the video again before continuing with the lapbook each time. The child that likes to watch the same video over and over may prefer this method. What if my child is not writing yet or does not like to write? If your child does not write or prefers not to write, we have answers boxes in the back of the lapbook pages that your child can cut out and glue into the booklets. In some cases, your child can even draw the answer.

3 Folding a Lapbook Base Original fold line Gather the number of folders required for the project. Fold them flat as seen here. For each folder, fold the left and right sides inward toward the original line to create two flaps. Crease so that the highest part of each flap is touching the original line. It is important not to let the two flaps overlap. You may want to take a ruler and run it down each crease to make it sharper. Glue your folders together by putting glue (or you may staple) on the inside of the flaps. Then press the newly glued flaps together with your hands until they get a good strong hold to each other. Follow this step to add as many folders as you need for your project. Most of our lapbooks have either 2 or 3 folders. G L U E Highest part of flap. 4 Color this page. Cut out around dotted line. Glue on the top cover of your lapbook when your lapbook is complete.

5 Folder 1 Percy Pea and Li l Pea are leaving the movie theater when they run into the Milk-Money Bandit. Directions- Fold on the middle line. Cut around the shape but do not cut the fold. Title should be on top. Glue into lapbook. What did the Milk- Money Bandit want from Percy Pea and Li l Pea? Write the answer inside the booklet or cut out the answer box (found in the back) and glue inside the booklet. Milk-Money Bandit

6 Folder 1 The next morning, Mr. Alfred is speaking to Junior Asparagus and Laura Carrot s class at Veggie Valley Elementary. Mr. Alfred mentions he needs to go home to recharge his batteries. Directions: Cut out each piece. Stack them on top of each other according to length with title page on front and staple at the top. Glue into lapbook. Write the answer on each piece or cut out the answer boxes and glue into booklet. Recharge your Batteries What does this saying mean? What does Laura and Junior think it means?

7 Folder 2 Percy Pea, Mr. Nezzer, and Dad Carrot are now curious about the Rumor Weed and want to know more about her. The Rumor Weed sings a song about rumors. Directions: Cut out the booklet as one piece. Fold in half. Cut on the dotted lines to create flaps. Glue into lapbook. Lift each flap and write the answer to the question or cut out and glue in the answer boxes. What is a rumor? GLUE What causes a rumor to grow? C U C U T T Are rumors easy to get rid of?

8 Folder 2 LarryBoy s Bible verse! Directions: Cut out the booklet and hotdog fold in the middle. Glue into lapbook. Our Bible verse to remember is Proverbs 12:18. Write it inside the booklet or cut out the answer box and glue inside the booklet. We have included another answer box that has part of the verse traceable to use instead of the first two options. 9 The following pages are extra activities for your child to do to expand on some of the topics and lessons from the movie. They are not part of the lapbook and are meant to be optional.

10 Going to the Movies At the beginning of LarryBoy and the Rumor Weed, Percy Pea and Lil Pea have just left the theater after seeing a movie. Have you been to a movie theater? Draw a scene from the best movie you have seen at the theater.

11 Nice Words Think of one important person in your life. Write their name in the middle of the flower. Then on the petals, write nice things about that person or tell someone and let them write them for you. It s okay if you can t fill up all of the petals. Color the ones you have left over.

12 VeggieLifeLessons Color in the faces to answer the questions. J = yes L = no If I hear a rumor about someone, I should not repeat it. J L If someone does not know I am talking mean about them, then it will not hurt them. J L God likes it when I don t spread rumors. LarryBoy Rescue booklet- folder 1 He tells the bandit that it is not nice to take people s milk money. Uses his suction ear to turn the bandit upside down and shake the money out of his pocket.
