1 DEPARTMENT OF ECONOMICS CH.CHARAN SINGH UNIVERSITY, MEERUT (U.P), INDIA ANNOUNCES Two Day ICSSR, New Delhi Sponsored National Seminar On ROLE OF WOMEN ENTREPRENEURSHIP IN INDIAN ECONOMY- OPPORTUNITIES AND CHALLENGES FEBRUARY 13-14, 2016 Dear Sir/Madam, We are glad to inform you that the Department of Economics, Ch.Charan Singh University, Meerut is to organize a two day ICSSR, New Delhi sponsored National Seminar on Role of Women Entrepreneurship in Indian Economy- Opportunities and Challenges on February 13-14, You are cordially invited to participate and contribute your views and paper on the theme. About the Seminar- Women perform sixty six percent of the world s work, and produce fifty percent of the food, yet earn only ten percent of the income and own one percent of the property. Whether the issue is improving education in the developing world, or fighting global climate change, or addressing nearly and other challenge we face, empowering women is a critical part of the equation.(former President Clinton addressing the annual meeting of the Clinton Global Initiative, September 2009). Increasing the entrepreneurial talent and managerial pool in developing and emerging economies- especially among women is one of the most important means of reducing inequality and ensuring more shared economic growth. The world will need 600 million jobs by 2025 to employ the eligible workforce. With start-ups generating 70-90% of all new jobs, entrepreneurs represent the answer to that challenge. If we are to meet this demand, we must ensure women entrepreneurs have the opportunity to start and scale their businesses to the same level as their male counterparts. Eastern European nations like the Czech Republic, Poland, Hungary, Slovakia, and Slovenia all have better Female Entrepreneurship Index (FEI) ranks than Global Entrepreneurship Index (GEI) ranks, indicating that they are particularly strong performers when it comes to fostering female entrepreneurship. A different pattern emerges among the East Asian nations of Japan, Korea, Taiwan, and Singapore which all have better GEI ranks than FEI ranks, indicating that these nations do better at encouraging entrepreneurship in general than they do at creating the right conditions for entrepreneurship among women. In India, In view of the policy of the Government of India for encouraging entrepreneurship among women various State Governments have set up many women entrepreneurs cells in the State Industries Development Organization also a member of banking, financial and development organizations have launched various programs and schemes with the objective of rendering the requisite financial, technical, managerial, marketing, infrastructure support and guidance to existing and prospective women entrepreneurs. In addition to the efforts made by the agencies referred above, a large number of non-government organizations interested in supporting socio-economic strengthening of women have also been actively involved in the development of women entrepreneurship in the country. The contribution made by all these institutions, organizations and government have accelerated the process and the movement of

2 women entrepreneurship in India. All over the world, it is estimated that approximately one third of the business organizations are owned by women. In India, the position in this regard is near about the same. It is due to this socio- economic developmental changes in the economy, new issues and dimension have emerged since inception of new economic reforms, therefore, there is need to in depth discussion to identify the factors responsible for further development of women entrepreneurship and also constraints encountered by them during the course of the economic activities in the economy. In this national seminar different dimensions of women entrepreneurship will be examined and evaluated at length and new appropriate strategies for further strengthening of women entrepreneurship will also be attempted to be recommended as the outcome of the seminar. Sub-Themes of The Seminar include- 1. Women in the Economy 2. Reforms and women entrepreneurship 3. Women as business leaders in India 4. Linkages between women entrepreneurship and Scio-Economic Development of India. Note- The above list of themes is indicative. Papers form other relevant areas related to the main theme of the seminar may also be considered for presentation. About The University- Ch.Charan Singh University (formerly, Meerut University) was established in 1965, to cater to the needs of higher education in western Uttar Pradesh. The University i8s celebrating its golden Jubilee in Under the able leadership of the Hon ble Vice-Chancellor, a renowned innovative technologist and an established committed academic administrator, the university is offering a large number of new and innovative post graduate, under-graduate, diploma, advanced diploma and postgraduate diploma courses under self-financed scheme in areas of Agricultural Sciences, Humanities, Social Sciences, Journalism, Mass Communication and Multimedia Techniques, Earth Sciences, Teacher and Physical Education, Fine Arts, Legal Studies, Applied Sciences, Home Sciences, Business Studies, Geographical Information System (GIS) and Remote Censoring. About The Department - The Department of Economics has proved its potential in the field of teaching and research since early 70s. At present, the department is headed by Professor V.K.Malhotra with a team of Professor Sudhir Sharma, Professor Atvir Singh and Dr.Dinesh Kumar. The department has completed many research projects sponsored by University Grant Commission/ Indian Council of Social Research, New Delhi. More than thirty five research papers have been published by faculty of the department in the leading National/International research journals. The senior most faculty of the department, well known academician & leading administrator Prof.N.K.Taneja, at present, is contributing as Honb le Vice-Chancellor of this university. The department has organized a Refresher Course and many National Seminars on the different issues. The department of economics with its team of well qualified and experienced teachers provides a thorough and in-depth training in theoretical and applied economics through its various courses of study. The main objective is to develop skilled manpower analyzing economic problems at different levels of sophistication and suggesting solution in terms of policy. The students of the department have been well received in the job market and their performance in terms of the success rate at different national examinations has always been above average. It is reflected through their placement in various organizations, which include academic and research institutions at the highest level, civil services, universities, commercial banks, the Reserve Bank of India, private corporate houses, etc.

3 CALL FOR PAPERS All Academicians, Administrators, Research Scholars, Students and other stake holders are invited to submit abstracts of their papers/ articles for consideration. The abstract should not exceed 300 hundred words and the research papers should be ideally around 3000 words typed in English 12 point font in Times New Roman or in Hindi Kurti Devi 10. The abstract should contain topic/title, name of the author(s), mailing address, contact no. and address. Submission of abstracts/papers via is preferred and alternatively one hard copy may be mailed to the organizing secretary. The last date for submitting completed research paper is January 15, All the papers selected by the Editorial Board shall be published in the Book form.
