3 ABOUT EBRARY Ebrary contains multidisciplinary ebooks from various publishers. Ebrary currently has more than 4,500 library customers around the world serving more than 19.2 million end-users. More than 500 of the world s most authoritative publishers distribute ebooks on the ebrary platform. 1. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS In order to download and read ebooks offline, Adobe Digital Editions (v or higher) must be installed on your computer. Installing Adobe Digital Editions Adobe Digital Editions is a free download available at this link: To install Adobe Digital Editions: 1. Click the Download Now link found on the page linked above. 2. Select Install. 3. Select Yes. 4. Follow prompts until installation is complete. Note: If you have trouble, use these solutions from Adobe provided in this Tech Note: 3

4 2. QUICK OVERVIEW The info page includes information about the ebook available to you as well as instructions on how to get started. The QuickView tab instantly displays a selected document in your browser without having to install any software. 4

5 We recommend you first to create a bookshelf account to save your ebooks so you can read them later. 1. Just click on the sign in option where it is located in the upper right corner. 2. After you click on the sign in option continue by clicking Create an account. 5

6 3. Fill up your personal information and press Create an account button. Make sure to accept Terms of Services (the second checkbox). 6

7 3. SEARCHING FOR EBOOKS A simple search box is available but we offer also a section for advance searching. Enter your search item in the search box and press Search. SIMPLE SEARCH 7

8 1. A result of ebooks related to your search terms is displayed. 2. From the check boxes bellow you can narrow your search base on subjects. Just click on a subject and then click on the Search button. 8

9 ADVANCE SEARCH By focusing your search Ebrary automatically prompts you to the advance search. 1. To add additional search fields press on the icon and to remove fields press on the icon. 9

10 2. By clicking on the drop down list you can search by Text, Subject, Title, Author, Publisher, Doc ID, Dewey Decimal Number, ISBN and many more searching criteria. 3. You can also view your search history by clicking the Searches tab. 10

11 4. By clicking on the Chapter Results you can find out the 20 most relevant chapters across all of the documents in your search results. 11

12 4. QUICKVIEW By clicking on the title of the ebook you will be able to read the whole ebook, take notes, highlight and save it so you can read it later. 1. In the right column the table of contents is shown and in the left column the full ebook is available for you. 12

13 2. You can navigate through pages (next previous) by clicking the left and right arrows. 3. You can go to occurrences of your search term by clicking the previous or next search buttons. 4. Zoom by clicking the page icon. 5. Jump to specific pages and navigate through the document with the table and contents. 13

14 5. NOTES, HYPERLINKS, HIGHLIGHT 1. Select the text that you want and by clicking the highlight button you can highlight the selected text in different colors. 2. You can also search to the web for a specific word. Just select the specific word that you want and from InfoTools select Search Web (For example select Google). 14

15 3. A new window will be appeared with the word that you select. You can also make a hyperlink to that word in case you might want to use it again. 4. Copy the URL as it shown in the picture below. 15

16 5. Before you paste the URL from the highlight button select the URL option and a new note window will appeared. 6. Paste the URL in the note window and now you have just created a hyperlink to that word. Now you can click on that word and it will transfer you automatically to the webpage that you searched before. 16

17 7. Take notes by selecting the text first and then one of the two notes colors in the highlight button. Write your notes and then click ok to save your notes. You can navigate through your notes by selecting the Notes tab above the table of contents. 17

18 6. DOWNLOAD AN EBOOK You have also the option to download or loan a book for a specific time period. 1. To download the ebook select the Download button from the search list. A new window will be appeared with two options. Download and Entire the whole document. i. You can select to create a PDF document with specific chapters or print specific pages (maximum 60 pages at once). After printing the maximum number of 60 pages you can repeat it until the whole book is printed. The number of pages may vary depending on individual publisher-specified limits. 18

19 ii. You may also want to loan the ebook for a specific time length. The maximum number of days that you are able to loan the book is up to 7 days. Then the ebook will become automatically unavailable and you have to repeat the procedure of download and loan again. To be able to read the book you have to install Adobe Digital Edition. It is given free in the follow website: 19

20 7. EXPORT TO REFWORKS Ebrary gives to the user the option to export the bibliography of an ebook to RefWorks. By clicking the RefWorks button from the search list a new window will be appeared with the document s bibliography included (you have to create an account to RefWorks first, see Refworks User Guide). 20
