1 Canara HSBC Oriental Bank of Commerce Life Insurance Group Secure - Home Loan 1. What are the Unique Selling Propositions of Group Secure Home Loan? Group Secure Home Loan proposition is exclusively designed for the Home Loan borrowers of Canara Bank. The unique selling propositions of this plan are as mentioned below; Reducing cover: Sum Assured reduces as per loan amortization schedule at inception of cover Joint Borrower coverage: A maximum of 3 Joint Borrowers may be allowed Sum Assured up to 120% of loan: Reduces the risk of under insurance in case of increase in floating interest rates Moratorium Period: Coverage will be provided during moratorium period. 2. What are the boundary conditions of Group Secure Home Loan scheme? The boundary conditions of this plan are as mentioned below; Product Feature Description Age at entry 18 to 64 years Cover Term 2 to 30 Years (subject to maximum cover age of 69 years) Minimum - `10,000; Sum Assured Maximum No limit (subject to maximum of 120% of loan) Maximum Sum Assured for Death + TPD option is ` 1 cr. Premium payment Single Pay 1. Death cover only Risk Coverage 2. Death plus Total Permanent Disability (TPD) cover Note: Irrespective of the actual moratorium period any) offered to the borrower, the premium will be calculated with moratorium period as 5 years by default, else applicant has the option to get himself covered for the loan term excluding the moratorium period. 3. How many Joint Borrowers may be allowed in Group Secure Home Loan scheme? A maximum of 3 Joint Borrowers may be allowed. 2 options are available: Option 1: Joint Basis: Each of the joint borrowers will be insured for 100% of the initial sum assured. The premium rate charged for youngest life assured will get rebate as mentioned in section #26 Option 2: Loan share percentage: The initial sum assured will be split between the joint borrowers in the ratio of the loan as stated in the membership form. 4. In joint life option, if one of the borrower dies. What will happen to the coverage of rest? In case of death/ death and TPD cover: 1. Joint Basis: Claim to be paid if admitted and the cover terminate for other joint borrower(s). 2. Loan Share percentage: Sum Assured for deceased borrower will be paid if claim is admitted and the cover continues for other borrower(s). 5. How does this Home Loan cover work? For loans with moratorium, insurance coverage can be aligned with moratorium period of 5 years. After moratorium period the cover decreases similar to the loan schedule. 1

2 Note: For home loan with NO interest accumulation during moratorium period. 6. What all options are available, explain with example in detail. 4 7. What are the rebates available in the plan? Rebates are available for following categories; Product FAQs Rebate for female lives: For female life 3 years set back is given to the male rates. Staff Rebate: 1% of the premium. Joint Borrower rebate: (only applicable for joint borrower option1 i.e. Joint basis cover for 100% of the loan amount) The youngest joint borrower will get rebate as per below table: Rebate (%Age Of Premium) On Youngest Life Assured Two lives Three lives 15% 25% 8. What are the options available if the customer pre-pays his loan in this plan? If the customer wants to pre-pays his loan the following options have been available; Continue the insurance cover. Surrender the insurance cover: A surrender benefit is available from the end of the first year provided the insured member has repaid the outstanding loan amount if full. The surrender value payable is calculated as: 60% x Single premium x [Unexpired term/cover term] x [Reduced Sum Assured/Initial Sum Assured] 9. What is the Medical Grid for this plan? What are the important things during form filling to minimize the FTRs (First Time Rejects)? Some of the important things we are already doing are as mentioned below; Fill all pertaining details of application form Submit all relevant proofs based on the requirements Calculate the premium correctly with service tax There are some special situations to be handled as mentioned below; Separate Application form for each Life Assured in case of Joint Life coverage In case of Joint Life policy, all applications should have the same Loan A/C No. Calculate premium correctly for youngest life, in case of Joint life 11. What are all the documents required for this scheme? Following documents required; Membership form Self attested age proof Self attested PAN card copy, in case of `50,000/- premium amount 12. Explain the processing of cases at Insurer s HUBs? Processing of cases at Insurer s HUB as per the steps mentioned below; a. Application forms with necessary supporting documents received at Insurer s hubs through courier / hand delivery to be date-time stamped and entered in Inward tracker. b. Hub associate to scrutiny the membership forms, premium calculator and documents for completeness as per checklist. Hub associate will reject if membership form is Incomplete or required documents have not been submitted. c. Rejected membership forms to be returned/couriered to respective sales/bank personnel. d. Scan and upload all pages of the membership forms for further processing. e. Region wise consolidated MIS to be sent to Group Operations on daily basis for each day s logins with status (i.e. accepted/rejected). 5

6 f. Physical membership forms and documents to be dispatched to Group Operations Hyderabad. 13. Explain the processing of cases by Group operations team of Insurer? Processing of cases by Group operations team of Insurer as per the steps mentioned below; a. Do the data entry based on the scan images uploaded by Hubs. b. In case of any discrepancy found in the membership form, the Insurer shall intimate the same to the branch office of the Master Policyholder from which such Membership Form was received with the specified TAT as mentioned in Annexure 1. Insurer s Group Operations team will also send a pending requirement letter to the customer informing about the requirement that needs to be completed for acceptance. c. In case of the Membership Form & other documents complying with the eligibility and other conditions prescribed for the Master Policy and the responses provided by the prospect therein being found acceptable by the Company s underwriters and also case is falling under Non Medical Limits, the Company shall update the decision as Accepted in the System. d. If in the opinion of the Company s underwriters, the prospect is not insurable as per the responses provided in the Membership Form and other reports, the Company shall forthwith intimate the same to the customer and copy to the branch office of the Master Policyholder & concerned SPOC. On receipt of such an intimation from the Company, the Membership Form collected from the prospect by the Master Policyholder in respect of that prospect shall cease to be in effect, and the Master Policy holder shall neither proceed to issue an Acknowledgement to the prospect nor do any other act that creates an expectation in the prospect that he would be provided insurance cover by the Company. e. In case of Joint life if any one of the life is declined by the underwriters then a consent letter needs to be obtained from the other life to convert the proposal into single life. f. If in the opinion of the Company s underwriters, the prospect requires to be examined medically before the Company can confirm whether it will provide insurance cover or not, then the Company shall intimate the same to the branch office of Master Policyholder. In case the prospect is willing to undergo medical examination at a centre nominated by the Company at Company s cost, Medical process need to be followed. 14. What is the process to handle the rejections at hub level? If membership form is Incomplete or required documents have not been submitted then the form will be get rejected (FTR). FTR cases to be returned to sales/bank branches. Incomplete/Discrepant seal should be affixed on the forms. If the rejected forms are not re-logged within T+5 days a letter to customer should be sent from hubs with reasons, for cases where customer intervention is required. New premium calculation sheet need to be collected with current details in case of age change at the time of resubmission. 15. What will happen to those cases where the requirements will not fulfilled? Cases for which the requirements are not closed within the specified period will be cancelled in the system and premium received, if any, will be refunded as per the refund process a. Rejection of cases if outstanding requirement from customers are not received within 35 days from the last requirement marked date. b. Credit received but original membership form not received 10 days from the date of credit 16. Is there any free-look/cover Cancellation option is available? 6

7 There will not be any free-look/cover cancellation at member level. 17. What is the termination of cover criteria in this plan? An Insured Member s cover will cease on the earliest of: The date of the end of the insurance cover term for that member The date the member attains his/her 70th birthday The date the claim has been admitted under the policy in respect of that member The date a valid Surrender request is received for the member. In case of Joint borrowers where Joint Basis option has been chosen: The date, a claim is admitted for any of the Joint borrowers. In case of Joint borrowers where Loan Share Basis option has been chosen: The date, a claim is admitted for any of the Joint borrower, the insurance cover will terminate for that insured member only. However, the insurance cover shall continue for other joint borrower(s) to the extent of their share(s). The date master policyholder exercising free-look cancellation option. 18. Explain the claim process of Group Secure Home Loan scheme. 1. Intimation & Registration The claim needs to be intimated by the Claimant i.e. the nominee / Appointee / Assignee / Master Policy Holder (Hereinafter referred to as MPH). The following documents are required to be provided for registration of the claim 1. Copy of Certificate of Insurance / Endorsements Issued 2. Copy of Membership Form 3. Claimant's statement Form C to be filled in by the Nominee / Appointee / MPH. The Form C format is available on the Insurer s website and on request from the Claims Unit. 4. Original / attested copy of death certificate of insured member * The Company reserves the right to call for any additional requirements Claims Unit of the Insurer will do the Quality Check for authenticity of documents received, policy and client status in the system Claims unit will register the claim, if admissible and send a requirement letter to the Claimant. If otherwise (claim is inadmissible), Claims unit would send a non-admissible letter to the Claimant. 2. Document Submission The documents would be submitted by the Claimant The MPH would assist Insurer by sharing responsibilities like attesting, witnessing of and assisting in claim documents 3. Required Documents: Based on the product T&Cs and sum assured at risk, documentation required at claim stage apart from Claimant s Statement Form C, Copy of Certificate of Insurance/ Endorsements Issued, Copy of Master Policy Document / Endorsements, Copy of membership form Issued and Death Certificate are: a) Insurer s claim forms (Form P, Form H, Form E etc.) including: I. Physicians Statement Form P - to be filled and signed by the deceased Insured Member s treating doctors and Family doctor/ Usual doctor. 7

8 II. Treating Hospital Certificate - Form H -to be filled by authorities of the hospital/s where the Insured Member was treated / admitted. III. Employers Certificate Form E to be completed by the employer of the Insured Member. The above formats are available on the Insurer s website i.e. and are also available on request from the Insurer s Claims Unit. b) All medical records including consultation notes, prescriptions, admission notes, progress sheets, reports of diagnostic tests, death/discharge summary from all the concerned hospital/s where the Insured Member was admitted. c) Post mortem report/ Autopsy report, Viscera and Histo-pathological report conducted) d) Details of any other medical care received by the Insured Member. In case of accidental death, additional documents that would be needed are: I. Copy of F.I.R. / Panchnama / Final police investigation report. II. Copy of Driving License of the Insured Member (in case of road traffic accident, where Insured Member was driving and there is additional accidental benefit.) * The Insurer reserves the right to call for any additional requirements 4. Investigation: If required, the claim would be investigated based on various parameters like policy duration, sum assured and the circumstances that lead to the happening of the event etc. 5. Subsequent Correspondence with the Claimant In case of incomplete requirements / clarifications, a reply letter would be sent by the insurer to the Claimant. In case of non-submission of requirements / clarifications within a certain time-period, the Insurer may even send a reminder letter to the Claimant. 6. Claim Decision Once all the requirements / clarifications have been received, the claims unit of the Insurer would either: o Pay the claim or o Reject / repudiate the claim In case of claim payout, the claim amount would be settled in favor of the valid beneficiary/ies as per T&Cs of the plan and a settlement pack would be sent by the Insurer to the valid beneficiary/ies with a copy to MPH or even get the same delivered through the MPH. In case of Claim Repudiation, a repudiation letter would be sent by the Insurer to the Claimant / valid beneficiary/ies. The settlement pack would consist of: o Customized Settlement Letter o Claim Cheque (wherever the NEFT mode is not preferred) 7. Post-settlement Claim amount paid by cheque / NEFT transferred into the beneficiary s account will be treated as a valid discharge of the Insurer from all liabilities 8

9 * All the letters that would be sent to the Claimant would be copied to the Nominee / Appointee / MPH as appropriate. Service TATs Claim to be registered by the Insurer on receipt of the required documents and requirement letter to be sent within 15 days from the date of registration as per regulations. Claim to be settled by the Insurer within 30 days from the date of receipt of the last requirement / clarification as per regulations. 19. Explain the assignment process of Group Secure Home Loan scheme. BACKGROUND: The approved F&U and T&C of Group Secure Product, requires the claim to be settled directly with the Nominee/Legal Heir of the Deceased Insured Member. However, as the purpose of this policy is to secure the loan amount, the proposed Master Policyholder(s) would require to secure the outstanding loan amount prior to payment of benefits any) to Nominee/Legal Heirs. Accordingly, the master policyholder is desirous of obtaining an assignment from each insured members to the extent of the loan amount and has requested the Company to provide them with the process that needs to be followed for assignment. Pursuant to this request, the Company has obtained a legal opinion to ascertain if the requirements can be legally implemented. The process of assignment is suggested below: 1. The customer at the time of filling the Member Enrollment Form shall sign an authorization letter whereby the customer shall appoint the Bank as authorized agent to assign the Certificate of Insurance (post its issuance) in favor of Master Policyholder. The said assignment shall be conditional and shall be to the extent of amounts outstanding under the terms of grant of Loan. As per the legal opinion, in accordance with section 38 of the Insurance Act, an assignor can assign the policy directly or can also be assigned through a duly authorized agent and there appears to be no restriction on the authorized agent being the assignee itself i.e the bank/master policyholder. The bank/master policyholder shall issue a letter to the Company informing about the names of the person along with designation that are authorized to execute the conditional assignment deed on behalf of the insured members. 2. Once the Member Enrollment Form along with the authorisation letter is received at the Insurers office the same shall be processed, however, post issuance of the policy i.e the certificate of insurance to the insured member and risk commencing there under, the Master Policyholder shall submit an executed Conditional Assignment Deed along with Notice of Assignment to the Insurer. The conditional Assignment Deed and notice of assignment shall be signed and witnessed without fail. As a consequence of receiving the Conditional Assignment Deed along with Notice of Assignment from the authorized agent (i.e. Bank) of the Insured Member, the Insurer shall register the Assignment in favor of Master Policyholder. The bank personnel signing for the assignor, assignee and witness should be different persons in the bank of designation of Manager and 9

10 above. The registration process shall be the same as followed by the Insurer for individual policies. The said Deed of Conditional Assignment along with Notice of Assignment shall form part of the Certificate of Insurance (Annexure-II) and since an assignment which is endorsed on the policy need not be stamped, there will no stamp duty payable additionally on the deed of assignment. It is expected that the Master Policyholder should retain a copy of Deed of Conditional Assignment along with the Notice of Assignment. The Insurer shall dispatch a copy of the conditional assignment to the insured member or alternatively inform the insured member through the certificate of insurance about the conditional assignment made by the insured member in favour of the bank/master policyholder to the extent of the loan amount. Para to be inserted in COI if Annexure-II is not been sent along with the COI: Important Notice: Pursuant to the Insured Member conditionally assigning the Certificate of Insurance (through its authorized representative) the Insurance Company has received the notice of assignment and registered the assignment and shall settle the benefits in accordance with the terms of the assignment. 3. At the time of claims, the Master Policyholder shall along with Claim Intimation Form submit in writing details of outstanding loan amount to the claims team of the Insurer with a copy of the said letter to the nominee also. If the claim is admitted, then the Insurer (Claims Team) shall check to see if the notice of assignment has been registered by the insurer in respect of the concerned insured member and if so pay the benefits in the loan account of the Insured Member to the extent of the Outstanding Loan amount and the balance any) shall be paid directly to the Nominee/Legal Heir. Further, in case the loan account is already closed and there are no outstanding dues towards the same, then the claim shall be paid directly to the Nominee/Legal Heirs. However, the status of the outstanding loan account should be obtained from the Master Policyholder prior to settlement of claim. At the time of settling the claim with the Master Policyholder and Nominee/Legal heir the claims team is required to obtain a valid discharge from both the parties. The claims team, while paying the outstanding loan amount as per letter from bank, shall also send a copy of the same to the nominee informing him/her of the same. Important points: 1. Conditional assignment should be signed and witnessed as set out therein. Otherwise the same should be rejected. 2. Conditional assignment should only be executed after the insurance risk cover is commenced by the insurance company. 3. Conditional assignment deed and notice of assignment is required for each and every case of insured member assigning it to the bank/master policyholder. 10

11 4. The said documents including the authorization letter issued by customer has to be verified to ensure that all requirements mentioned therein is completed, thereafter the assignment should be registered in our books/system. 5. At the time of claim payment, the master policyholder has to formally write to the insurance company with copy to the nominee stating the outstanding loan amount due. After ensuring that such case (i.e the conditional assignment) has been registered in our books/system, insurance company can pay the amount to the extent of the outstanding loan amount directly to the loan account and balance has to be paid directly by insurance company to the nominee/legal heirs. The claims team shall inform the bank and nominee of such payments through a letter. 6. The conditional assignment deed, notice of assignment, authorization letter, details of registering the conditional assignment in our books/system and the letter from the bank to Insurance Company informed about the duly authorized person signing on behalf of the assignor should be documented and maintained. 7. The copies of all the documents viz. Assignment Deed, Notice of Assignment and Authorization Letter by Insured Member and the letter issued by Master Policyholder confirming the authorized representatives of the Bank for signing on behalf of the Insured Member to be maintained by Master Policyholder as well as the Insurance Company. We shall also maintain the Register of the Assignments made internally. 8. Each of these above mentioned forms for every Insured Member should be verified to ensure that it is complete in all respects before we register the notice of Assignment. Note: Use of the word Our, We and Us would refer to the Insurance Company. 11
