2 CofE Welcome Letter from Headteachers Dear Parent We wish you a very warm welcome you to C of E and hope that by visiting us today you will get a picture of our values and vision we uphold. All schools have their own identity and at we aim to give every child the very best start possible to their education, through vibrant and engaging teaching, enabling children to become active learners and by using an exciting, broad and balanced curriculum. We have created a friendly, caring and supportive environment that encourages children to fully learn and develop. Throughout the school we want our children to enjoy a wide range of experiences, which bring the curriculum to life and make learning fun. Our staff work hard to ensure the best possible quality of education for the children in every year group. Our Welcome Morning pack and school website gives you a taster of what C of E is all about, along with a range of useful information. You will also find enclosed a copy of our weekly newsletter, which lets parents know what their children are learning about in school, other key school information, along with suggestions for supporting them at home. Please take your time looking around our school and get a flavour of the range of activities and different classes here at. Allow our Year 6 children to be your tour guides this morning. They would be more than happy to answer questions and anything they are not sure about we will happily provide you with answers to. 5 CofE Inspection Reports from 2015 In 2015 C of E underwent an Ofsted Inspection, HMi visit and a SIAMS (Statutory Inspection of Anglican & Methodist Schools) Inspection. Quotes below have been taken from their reports. Full version of the reports can be found on the school website. Pupils behave well and have positive attitudes to their work. They feel safe and well supported. (Ofsted, April 2015) Pupils have positive attitudes to the learning, are keen to learn and interested in all that is on offer. (Ofsted, April 2015) The senior leadership team have injected enthusiasm and a clear sense of purpose in the day-to-day life of the school. (HMI, June 2015) Pupils are respectful of other views and opinions of others and understand the need to learn about the diversity of cultures and faiths in Britain and around the world. (SIAMS, July 2015) Feedback from Parents At C of E we encourage feedback from parents, letting us know about their experience and in doing so how we can support the children more effectively. In 2015 a few of the parental comments included: I know that my children are safe and I feel that the school has a caring environment. The school is inclusive and accommodates children, whatever their needs. Staff are very caring, children feel safe and feel there is someone they can go to if they need help. In a parental survey in April 2015, 100% of parents reported that their child feels safe at school.

Reception (Red) Class My favourite thing about school is: playing outdoors looking at the picture books going on a bear hunt making pictures drawing and writing going to the church making new friends counting Year 1 (Yellow Class) My favourite thing about school is: learning about animals making new friends playing with my friends drum lessons because we learn new songs art because it is fun and wet the story corner playing football with my friends Year 2 (Blue Class) My favourite thing about school is: writing because it makes me smarter PE because it makes me fit playing in the playground art because we get to use pastels and paint English because it helps me learn how to write words Science as I learnt about life cycles Year 3 (Columbus Class) & Year 4 (Cook Class) Children should come to because: You can make lots of friends All the teachers make learning fun We have clubs at playtime When you are alone the playground buddies will play with you Everyone in the school is friendly We have a School Council It is the best school in the World

7 CofE Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) Will my child be expected to attend school all day, from day one? Children are normally admitted into school in the September of the school year in which they become 5 years old. All children are expected to attend full-time, although parents do have the option to defer either their child s entry to school or their child s full-time attendance at school. Please feel free to speak to us if deferred entry is something you are considering. What are the timings of the school day? School begins at 8.45am and ends at 3pm. The children have a short play-time in the morning and an hour at lunchtime. Reception children are gradually introduced to school systems and we have children in the school trained as Buddies and Playground Friends who look out for our younger children. Do you offer an extended school day? Pre-School runs a "Breakfast Club" from 8am to 8.45am and an "After School Club" from 3pm to 5pm for school pupils. As a school we offer a wide range of extracurricular clubs, during the school day and also after school, in addition to peripatetic music sessions (Rocksteady Music School, piano, football, karate, storytelling club, choir etc). What trips and activities do you offer pupils? Educational trips range from a walk into village to study the church or local architecture, visiting the RHS Wisley Gardens, travelling to Butser Farm to learn about the Stone & Iron age or to Chertsey Museum to learn about Victorian times. Two residential trips are offered to older pupils, recently to High Ashurst in Surrey, Isle of Wight and Hooke Court in Devon. In addition, children have the opportunity to take part in activities such as the Village pantomime and float procession at Bonfire. How much homework do pupils receive? All children at C of E receive homework. It is essential in the continued development of the child and their learning. Activities set are appropriate to the age of the child. In Reception class this means supporting parents in providing children with opportunities to practice letters, sounds and numbers progressing to reading and writing. As children progress through the school the amount and nature of the homework changes accordingly. Please see our Homework overview document on the school s website (under the Curriculum tab) for further details. What provision for do you have for children with special needs? We have an experienced and skilled team of teaching assistants (TAs & HLTAs). They work together with the class teachers, SENCO/Inclusion Manager resulting in the school being able to offer children a wide range of support in school for: Literacy, Maths, Speech and Language and Behaviour, Social and Emotional Needs. 8 CofE Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) Do children have the opportunity have a hot lunch? Yes. The government s Universal Free School Meals initiative provides for free school lunches for all infant pupils (up to and including Year 2). All pupils have a daily choice of two hot meal options or can bring in a packed lunch. All our food is cooked on site. Children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 are also offered a free healthy snack daily eg. apple, carrots, banana etc. How do you communicate with parents? Weekly electronic newsletters are circulated to parents which includes dates for your diary, reminders and updates from the Headteachers. Text messages are sent in the event of an emergency (snow closure, etc.) and s keep parents up to date with whole school and specific class reminders. Absences are reported by parents to the school through the automated telephone system and payments for lunches, trips etc. are through the 24/7 ParentPay system. What are your admissions criteria? When will I know which school my child has been offered? school offer letters are posted out by Surrey County Council (Admissions) on 18 April 2016 and online applicants receive an in the evening detailing the school offered. After offers letters have been sent by SCC, we will write to you directly letting you know about our home visit and induction days taking place in June/July Which secondary schools do children move on to? does not feed in to one main secondary school. We have links with a number of secondary schools in the local area and admission to any one of them are dependent on a variety of factors including proximity to the secondary school. Bishop David Brown, Christ s College, Fullbrook, George Abbot, Guildford County, Hoe Valley, St John the Baptist, St Peter s, The Howard of Effingham and Woking High School are some of the state secondary schools in the local area. 9 CofE A Day in Reception (Red Class) Whilst routines and boundaries are important to children starting school, at C of E we do not believe that this should restrict the creativity, enthusiasm and energy of the child in their learning. Structures are present within the day, however there is no such thing as a normal day, as we are guided by the learning of the children and the activities set up foster their initial inquisitiveness.
