To be part of Fullhurst Community College is to transform lives. In 2016, our Progress 8 measure (the new government performance indicator) was +0.65, the highest of any school in Leicester. In 2012, Ofsted graded Fullhurst good in all categories, in 2013 an HMI inspection of Mathematics graded all areas good and our most recent Challenge Partner review suggested the school has many outstanding features. The facilities at Fullhurst are second to none, providing an inspiring environment for learning. Our curriculum is vibrant, our learning is lively and we have a huge range of extra-curricular activities and other opportunities for students to broaden their horizons. Students follow personalised pathways for learning which meet their individual needs. We want our students to be excited by their learning in the classroom and beyond, committed to achieving their very best and confident about their futures. By students, staff and parents working together, we help students to achieve this. At Fullhurst, we are proud of our students, who look smart in college, work hard to achieve success and are praised for their behaviour and attitude by our visitors. We are proud of our results, which for the last three years, have seen the best progress the college has ever made. We have continued to exceed performance targets and in 2016 scored amongst the highest in the country for value added also involved our highest proportion of A/A* grades with increasing numbers of students achieving at the highest level. Fullhurst students continue their progress into the city and county sixth forms and colleges, with record numbers now progressing further to the country s top universities. 4 04 WHAT SORT OF SCHOOL DO YOU WANT FOR YOUR CHILD? One where GCSE success is above average for colleges both locally AND nationally? For the last three years Fullhurst s GCSE results have continually improved. In % of students left the college with A*-C in English and Maths, our best ever results. However, what we are most proud about is the value added, which shows we are one of the highest achieving schools in the city and the country. This success reflects the way that staff enable all students to achieve. One where the approach to dealing with any bullying is effective and has received a nationally recognised award? In 2015, Fullhurst was presented with the Anti-Bullying Award. This national award recognises the college s commitment to dealing effectively with bullying an issue for all colleges, whether they realise it or not. In 2012 government inspectors recognised that at Fullhurst Bullying is rare and students treat each other with mutual respect. (Ofsted October 2012). One that recognises education is about more than just passing exams? Fullhurst was one of the first colleges in Leicester to be rebuilt and refurbished under the Building Schools for the Future initiative. Behind the iconic 1930s façade on Fosse Road South, every room is either completely new or totally rebuilt and refurbished. The extent of the transformation is a surprise for everyone entering the college for the first time. For us, the spectacular new buildings mirror the transformation of the college in terms of learning and behaviour over the past five years. We offer an extensive range of extracurricular activities. We have sports teams running in every year group, offer trips locally, nationally and internationally and have a real variety of lunchtime and after college clubs. 7 07 THE BEST OPPORTUNITIES We offer high class facilities in all aspects of the curriculum. We have a fully specialist staff and our teaching has been graded as good. In addition to teachers in the classroom we have a number of mentors and support staff who help to ensure that our students are safe, happy and achieving their very best. Our exciting and innovative curriculum has been designed to ensure that every student in college has the opportunity to fulfil their potential. In Years 7 and 8, lessons have a clear focus on the skills needed for effective, successful learning. Some students will have extra support for literacy and numeracy; all students take part in teaching and learning conferences, developing thinking and learning skills. Students showing aptitude in specific areas will join our our more able groups which run in all curriculum areas. The positive benefits of the Pupil Premium payment can be seen across the college and particularly in the increasing percentage of students making better than average progress. In 2015, a review of Pupil Premium at Fullhurst commented that the work we have done here has seen gaps close rapidly (April 2015). In both Year 8 and 9 students are given the opportunity to make option choices about the subjects they study, allowing for both a more personalised curriculum and for many GCSE courses to begin in Year 9. The courses on offer at GCSE are a mixture of traditional GCSE subjects such as History and French, through to more vocational subjects such as Hair and Beauty and Motor Vehicle Maintenance. We believe this range allows all the individual needs of students to be met, so giving them every possible opportunity to be successful in the future. In addition to these options all students study core subjects, receive 1:1 careers guidance and learn more about the world around them, including British values, democracy and the rule of law, in either Citizenship and RE lessons or through our tutor programme. By the end of Year 11 our students are confident, responsible and successful young people. 8 08 LEARNING FOR LIFE Fullhurst s new buildings and equipment provide a superb backdrop for more than just academic achievements. They enable the college to provide a range of activities to help students achieve their potential. As part of the Fullhurst Pledge, we promise to give all students access to these opportunities including: School Council Students voted onto the council by their peers can join a variety of committees making real impacts on the college. In previous years they have been awarded the prestigious Speakers Award from the Houses of Parliament and last year helped to raise over 3000 for various local charities. Lunchtime Activities A comprehensive range of clubs and activities are offered so students can make the most of their free time, including chess clubs, music and the arts as well as a varied menu of sports. Art, Music and Drama Events We provide many opportunities for students to be creative. Students art work was showcased at the Roots Exhibition in Leicester University, college productions range from We Will Rock You to High School Musical and the college rock groups perform regularly. The students also run a community radio station which broadcasts 24/7, called Fullpower.fm. Out of College Students participate in a range of trips and activities, including the Duke of Edinburgh award scheme and there are regular overseas opportunities. 11 11 IMPORTANT INFORMATION Admissions Policy As a Trust school, we operate the Leicester City Authority admissions procedures. Priority is given to looked after children, children subject to child protection plans, children who live in the catchment area of the college and children with a sibling attending the college. The college arrangements for the admission of students with disabilities follows the requirements of the 1996 Education Act, the 1995 Disability Discrimination Act and the 2010 Equalities Act, together with appropriate Health and Safety legislation. All admissions to Year 7 are administered by the School Admissions Service of Leicester City Council: schools-and-learning/school-and-colleges/ school-admissions/starting-secondaryschool/ Tel: option 1. We also welcome applications from students at the end of KS3 who wish to be part of our success at KS4. We expect all students and parents/carers to uphold the values of the college as outlined in the behaviour and rewards policy. Charging and Voluntary Contributions The Governors policy has been produced in accordance with LA guidelines. Copies are available on the college website. Free School Meals Free school meals are provided for all students who satisfy the government criteria. If you believe your daughter/son to be eligible for free school meals, or would like to find out if you are, please contact the college. Complaints Procedure Parents and carers have the legal right to seek clarification about schemes of work, Religious Education, relationships and sex education and procedures for collective worship. If at any time you are unhappy with provision at the college there is a complaints procedure. In the first instance, parents are invited to discuss their concerns with the Principal. We would prefer parents to do this immediately so that issues can be resolved quickly. If parents are still dissatisfied they should contact the Chair of Governors (contact details are available on the website or from the Assistant Business Manager at main reception). Information about Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) The Governors seek to provide appropriate support for all students with SEN and Disabilities.
