2 1. Introduction Classworks diagnoses, prescribes and implements the best individualized educational plan for each student. All student instruction and results are organized within Classworks, including content mastery and time-on-task. This enables teachers and administrators to manage whole group or individual student instructional learning paths, monitor student progress, and track and report student achievement. Classworks reads and imports student results from the Northwest Evaluation Association s Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) and Measures of Academic Progress for Primary and automatically prescribes an individual learning path for each student. The instruction skips areas where the student is proficient, and focuses on the areas that need additional instruction or remediation. Classworks: Reads and imports assessment results Prescribes individual standards-based learning paths Automatically assigns each student relevant instructional activities and practice Immediately provides targeted instruction based on test results The ability to import MAP and MAP for Primary results and have students immediately engaged in relevant individual instruction is an effective way to work toward student achievement goals.

3 2. Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) The Northwest Evaluation Association (NWEA) provides adaptive assessments called the Measure of Academic Progress (MAP and MAP for Primary) that provide data on student achievement levels. The assessments are state-aligned computerized adaptive tests that assess skills in Reading, Language Usage, Math 2-5 and Math 6+. MAP is typically given to grades 2-8. MAP for Primary Grades is a separate assessment and results can also be used for an individualized prescription. MAP for Primary is typically given to grades K-2. Teachers with access to assessment data are better informed to make decisions that lead to meaningful, targeted instruction for every student and therefore better results on state tests. MAP Scoring MAP results are reported with numerical data as a RIT score; a normative scale designed to assess each student s level on individual skills and concepts. Because MAP is an adaptive assessment, rather than showing mastery or non-mastery of a skill, reports indicate a student s needs within each reporting category on a continuum that spans grade levels. The strands measured on the MAP have been aligned by NWEA to each state. In addition, there is a version aligned to the Common Core State Standards. The content areas for the MAP and MAP for Primary include Language Usage, Reading, and Mathematics, although the specific strands vary by state.

4 3. How Classworks Uses the Results Classworks assigns individual activities for each student based on RIT scores from the MAP assessment. Students are placed into Classworks instruction that is aligned to state standards at the level indicated by the RIT score. It is possible that students could be assigned units in Classworks that are below their grade level, at their grade level, or above their grade level within the same subject area. Classworks approaches the individual learning path (ILP) by using the RIT score to prescribe instruction at the reporting category level. Classworks gives schools the flexibility to use their MAP data in a more targeted, focused way by offering the option to generate instruction for specific reporting categories at, above, or below grade level. Targeted instruction is assigned for each reporting category at the RIT range level that the student scored. Example: Student A, a 4th-grader, received RIT scores in the following areas for Math: Number and Operations 206 Algebra 190 Geometry 172 Measurement 208 Data Analysis and Probability 153 Based on school goals to use Classworks for remediation, Classworks recognizes that the student is performing on grade level for Number and Operations and Measurement. It automatically assigns a learning path for Student A that covers: Algebra Geometry Data Analysis and Probability This approach to the prescribed instruction ensures that students strengths and weaknesses will be identified at the most granular level reported, and that individual student learning paths will be meaningful and relevant to each student.

5 4. How to Obtain the Test Data Directions for Enterprise NWEA MAP customers (file will be a.txt file) Go to: Click on: Logins Then select the Reports option under the Client-Server MAP heading.

6 Complete fields one through seven. Note: Testing window must have been closed by the district 24 hours prior to ordering reports.

7 Note: Reports can usually be retrieved in five minutes, but it may take as long as 15 minutes. Click Submit Order Double click on the desired report to download. The report will be compressed in.zip format and must be unzipped. The file you need will be in a.txt format and should be contain the name of the school (ex. SchoolName.txt).

8 Directions for Web-based NWEA MAP customers (file will be a.csv) You can get all of your NWEA testing data through a file called the Combined Data file. Please note that in order to pull the correct file needed, the person must have the role of Assessment Coordinator in NWEA. To schedule a Combined Data File generation: 1. On the MAP Reports landing page, click Data Export Scheduler. 2. On the Data Export Scheduler page, select Enable. 3. Choose how often you want the report to run (Frequency). 4. If you selected a One Time frequency, select the Term to use as the basis for the data file. Otherwise, if you selected a Daily or Weekly frequency, the Term defaults to the current term and cannot be changed. 5. Select Combined Data File as the Export Type. 6. Under Contents, select any optional information to include in the data file package. 7. Click Save. The file Status is In Process until it is ready for download. 1. When the file is ready, click Download to open or save the file. 2. Download statuses appear in the table at the bottom of the page. When the file is ready, click Download to open or save the file. Notes: We want the ComboStudentAssessment.csv file: contents include student info by school and assessment results combined in a single CSV file. This file is created per user and must be pulled by a user that has District rights for NWEA.
