1 WELCOME Dear Colleagues The Institute of Sports Science and Clinical Biomechanics is honored to host the Nordic Conference 2010, which will take place from the 28th to the 30th of October 2010 at the University of Southern Denmark in Odense, Denmark. NorCon 2010 focuses on interdisciplinary perspectives on health and sport. The purpose of the Conference, which was held for the first time at Halmstad University in 2008, is threefold: 1. To promote Nordic research and applied work related to health, adapted physical activity, sport and exercise. 2. To facilitate interdisciplinary perspectives in research and applied work related to health, adapted physical activity, sport and exercise. 3. To stimulate cooperation and networks between the Nordic countries in research and applied work related to health, adapted physical activity, sport and exercise. Expert keynote speakers representing most of the Nordic countries and experts in the fields of the main topics will stimulate critical thinking and provide the basis for enhanced discussions about health, participation and the effect of sport and exercise. The additional conference formats are interdisciplinary symposia, posters and oral papers. The official language of the Conference is English. On behalf of the Organising Committee Karen Søgaard

2 CONFERENCE INFORMATION Conference Themes NorCon 2010 has a particular focus on interdisciplinary perspectives on health, participation and effects of sport and exercise. Accordingly, we welcome researchers and scholars from various disciplines to contribute with perspectives on five main topics: 1. Physical Activity and Public Health - with special reference to working life 2. Active Living and Public Health exercise and well-being in a life span perspective, physical activity and health with special reference to children and adolescents 3. Adapted Physical Activity good practice and inclusion of children and adolescents with disabilities in physical activity 4. Sport Psychology and the Cultural Turn 5. Sport and Exercise Physiology and Biomechanics physiological and biomechanical assessments in sport, exercise, rehabilitation and physiotherapy. Conference Symposiums 40 Years Anniversary Symposium The conference will open with a symposium celebrating the 40 years anniversary of the Institute of Sports Science and Clinical Biomechanics at the University of Southern Denmark. The presentations will focus on the development from sports science to health and sports science and the history of the multidisciplinary approach that through the years has become a hallmark of the Institute. Interdisciplinary Symposium: Measuring Physical Activity The last part of the conference will be a symposium focusing on the delicate task of quantifying physical activity. Even though the importance of this parameter has proved to be essential within a broad spectre of public health aspects, it is still a challenge to obtain valid and detailed data. This symposium will focus on state of the art methodologies such as GIS, combined accelerometry and heart rate measures, combined accelerometry and GPS, and combined accelerometry, GPS and GIS - plus SMS tracking, which now offers promising new possibilities.

8 PRACTICAL INFORMATION Transportation Transport between the Centre of Odense and the University From the Train Station, Odense Banegård Center, there is a direct bus line to the University of Southern Denmark: Bus no. 40 or 41 Universitetet. The price per trip is approx. DKK (note that you have to pay cash). From the Train Station it is also possible to get a taxi.
