2 Every year we work with companies throughout the Highlands, helping us to raise the funds we need to deliver our vital services. This leaflet provides information on the different ways your company can get involved. 3 Charity of the Year and One-Off Events Supporting Highland Hospice over a set period of time (it doesn t have to be a year) is a lot of fun and gives your staff the opportunity to get to know us and get more involved. It s also a great way to further a charitable culture at your organisation while contributing toward charitable services in your immediate area. Our Corporate Fundraiser can help you plan a calendar of events to suit your business, which could involve customers, suppliers and staff and incorporate fundraising, volunteering, sharing skills and giving in kind. We have our own diverse calendar of events you can get involved in, including walks, cycles and runs, overseas challenges, quizzes, golf days and exclusive ticketed events. We can also support your office fundraising and your own events, from bake sales and dress down days, to team away days or something entirely different. Many of our employees families have experienced the services Highland Hospice provides, and we all value the importance of a hospice in the Highlands. Supporting Highland Hospice means we all feel we are making a difference to our local community. We set an ambitious target to raise 100,000 involving staff and customers, and are overjoyed with our final total of 114,000 which was achieved with the amazing support of the Hospice fundraising team Kingsmills Hotel We work with companies on one-off events too from black tie dinners to car raffles. 4 Volunteering If you re looking for a volunteering opportunity for your team, please do get in touch. We are often looking for help at our events, and there are a number of volunteering roles available for individuals. Sponsorship We re always keen to find sponsors to work with on our events, to maximise event income and to add value to our corporate partnerships. Through sponsorship, you could reach out to the whole Highland community, or support an event attracting an important customer base for you. Most of our events from the Black Isle Cycle Challenge to our Anniversary Ball are reliant on sponsorship and there are plenty of opportunities for presence on the day of the event and in all marketing materials. Contact us or see our website for current opportunities. Christmas Many companies choose to support us during the festive period by buying their Christmas cards from Highland Hospice. Our range includes Highland scenes, with greetings in English and Gaelic. We can provide cards flat packed for overprinting with your logo and message, just get in touch for more information.

5 At Scottish Water we raise thousands for Highland Hospice every year, by cycling the NC500 route with colleagues from all over the Highlands. Our company also allows two days a year for volunteering, so when Highland Hospice needed help emptying storage spaces ahead of their rebuild, we were delighted to help and had a lot of fun! Scottish Water Payroll Giving Payroll Giving allows your employees to support Highland Hospice through their payroll. Because their donation will be taken before tax every 1 they donate will only cost them 80p, or 60p for higher rate tax payers. All you have to do is: Check your company is registered to offer payroll giving with the Charities Aid Foundation (CAF) by calling them on If your company isn t registered, CAF can give you the forms to complete and can set you up for free. If you are set up, CAF can explain how it all works. Promote payroll giving to your employees.

6 Alison McRitchie owns the Head Gardener hair salon in Inverness. Alison s beloved dad Stanley was cared for by Highland Hospice in 2010 before he passed away. Shortly afterwards, her sister Linda also experienced our care and, sadly, passed away 18 months later aged only 50. Alison says: The passion, devotion, kindness and calm peaceful ambiance displayed by the staff who cared for Dad and Linda was amazing. So too was the care for our family as a whole, including the aftercare from the Hospice s Family Support Team. They put no timescale on dealing with grief, and that was reassuring and a huge help, not only to me but to Linda s daughter who was only 11. Dancing in Strictly Inverness shortly after Dad had passed away turned a negative into a positive. I was able to channel all my energy into it and I made good friends from the experience. Since then, Alison has provided the hair styling for Strictly Inverness every year, tackled several cycle challenges including Vietnam & Cambodia and Rajasthan, organised the annual Most Stylish Woman of the North competition and joined the Hospice Board of Directors. She has also generously donated a brand new hair salon, situated within the Hospice s refurbished Day Therapies Unit. This room, which she named after her favourite place, Torridon, aims to let patients feel that they are in a salon or spa rather than just a wet room a completely different experience. As Alison says, If your hair is right, you feel right and that fits so well with the whole day therapies philosophy. Her mum is a volunteer receptionist, her son Brad was named Young Volunteer of the Year for his commitment to the Hospice and Alison constantly inspires and encourages friends, colleagues and clients to support Highland Hospice. I have turned the memory of Dad and Linda into something positive. I don t help the Hospice to repay a debt. I just want to be part of something to help ensure that other families can receive the same level of care as my family did.

7 How we support you We are so proud of our corporate supporters; we couldn t do what we do without you. It s very important to us that you feel valued and supported. You will have a dedicated contact at Highland Hospice whether you re organising a one off event, or engaging in a long-term partnership. We can provide regular updates on your fundraising totals, sponsorship forms, balloons, t-shirts and can help you to set up online giving pages. We regularly post photos from company fundraising events on our Facebook and LinkedIn pages, and share press releases with local printed media. We can visit your office to provide a talk to staff or customers about the Hospice and how your support will help, and arrange visits to Highland Hospice for your staff, to see what we do first hand. While some companies have a staff member dedicated to Corporate Social Responsibility, many don t, and it can be time consuming. We are here to make fundraising enjoyable and as easy as possible. We re a local charity, spending the money you raise in the Highlands, supporting families when they need it most.

8 At Highland Hospice we aim to support people, their families and carers, living with an advancing, life shortening illness in the Highlands to live the best possible life and to prepare for and experience the best possible death. By managing pain and other physical symptoms, we help make time and space for reflection, for gaining perspective and for achieving a measure of calm and tranquillity. Crucially, our team also offers advice with the emotional, social and spiritual issues that may arise and works with patients and loved ones at a time of transition to help them enjoy, value and commemorate life. By delivering and sharing our skills in our Inpatient Unit and Day Therapy Centres, in local hospitals and care homes and at home, we seek to provide our patients and their loved ones with respect, dignity and choice both during the patient s illness and into bereavement.
