1 Hourly Paid Teacher Fashion Textiles/Art & Design Ref per hour 0-18 hours per week We are looking for an individual to offer high level, engaging and challenging teaching in fashion textiles / art and design who can assess student work, giving constructive feedback and actively monitor student progress. You will deliver a range of specialist curriculum through structured and focused teaching and provide students with appropriate support and guidance on progression to or on employment. You will also work with schools, and career organisations to promote the FE courses in Fashion Textiles / Art and Design, assisting with visits/talks/collaboration as necessary and participate in the Internal Verification process. With experience of teaching a range of Fashion Textile / Art and Design subjects at FE level and knowledge of current practices and innovations in FE and teaching, the successful candidate will also have experience of working in a pastoral / personal tutor role and possess a BA (Hons) or equivalent in a Fashion Textile / Art and Design related subject. A recognised teaching qualification such as Cert Ed/PGCE is also essential although support may be given to undertake this in post. 3 JOB DESCRIPTION JOB TITLE: REGULATED ACTIVITY RESPONSIBLE TO: Hourly Paid Teacher in Fashion Textiles/Art and Design Yes Head of Braintree Arts BRCL or Head of Art and Design COSR LINE MANAGEMENT OF OTHER STAFF No LOCATION: HOURLY RATE: Braintree or Colchester FE Course Teaching (Grade 1) per hour PURPOSE STATEMENT: To offer high level, engaging and challenging teaching. To assess student work and give constructive feedback. To actively monitor student progress. MAIN TASKS: 1. To deliver a range of specialist fashion textiles / art and design curriculum through structured and focused teaching. 2. To assess student work and provide constructive feedback which encourages further learning. 3. To submit assignments in a timely manner for Internal Verification. 4. To participate in the Internal Verification process. 5. To participate in course team meetings and contribute to course planning and operation. 6. To encourage the best possible fashion textiles / art and design teaching and learning, sharing of best practice; leading by example where appropriate. 7. To provide students with appropriate support and guidance on progression to or on employment. 8. To work with schools, and career organisations to promote the FE courses in Fashion Textiles / Art and Design, assisting with visits/talks/collaboration as necessary. 9. To assist with recruitment of FE Fashion Textiles / Art and Design students, interviewing applicants and participating in taster events. 10. To maintain best practice with Health and Safety, and Codes of Practice relating to the use of media and equipment. 11. Work to promote and apply the College s Safeguarding and Child Protection policy and practices.

4 12. Work to promote and apply the college s Equality and Diversity policy, integrating E&D within the curriculum. 13. To attend department meetings and meetings as required by the Head of Braintree Arts. 14. To liaise and work with other academic and support staff within the centre, and crosscollege departments. 15. Any other duties as specified by the Director of Faculty and Head of Braintree Arts commensurate with this role This job description is current as the date shown. 5 PERSON SPECIFICATION Hourly Paid Teacher in Fashion Textiles/Art and Design Ref Qualifications / Training Knowledge / experience Special Requirements Essential BA (Hons) or equivalent in a Fashion Textile / Art and Design related subject. Recognised teaching qualification such as Cert Ed/PGCE or willingness to undertake in post Experience of teaching a range of Fashion Textile / Art and Design subjects at FE level Experience of working in a pastoral / personal tutor role Knowledge of current practices and innovations in FE and teaching An understanding of safeguarding and a commitment to creating a safe learning environment. An understanding of Equality and Diversity Good oral/face to face and written communication skills Excellent IT skills Ability to work within H&S and Codes of practice Flexible approach to working patterns and attendance Good organisational skills Able to work evenings and outside of usual working hours as required to meet the needs of the School.
