Printing Web Pages Sometimes web pages do not print out exactly as they appear in the web browser screen. 1. Some web pages are specifically coded to print differently than they appear in the browser such as printing no colors or printing no side bars, etc. 2. See if the web page has an alternate Print this page type link. Those links take you to a page that has been setup specifically for printing. 3. See if the page has an alternative to print it as a pdf file. 4. Select the print preview before selecting print. This will show you how the printed web page will look. If the preview looks good, go ahead and print. If the preview doe not look like it contains the material you expected, follow these tips to troubleshoot: Mozilla Firefox Printing Printing a web page 1. At the top of the Firefox window click on the File menu and select Print In the standard Print window that opens, adjust settings for what you're about to print, if necessary. Click OK to start printing. Print window settings Printer section: Click the dropdown menu next to to Name to change which printer prints the web page you're viewing. Click on Properties... to change the paper size, print quality, and other settings specific to your printer. Print range section - Lets you specify which pages of the current web page are printed: Select All to print everything. Select Pages and enter the range of pages you want to print. For example, selecting "from 1 to 1" prints the first page only. Select Selection to print only the part the page you've highlighted. Copies section - Lets you specify how many duplicates you want to print. If you enter more than 1 in the Number of copies field, you can also choose whether to collate them. For example, if you choose to make 2 copies and select Collate, they will print in the order 1, 2, 3, 1, 2, 3. Otherwise, they will print in the order 1, 1, 2, 2, 3, 3.
Print Frames section - If you are viewing a web page with frames, you can select how the frames print: As laid out on the screen will print the way you see the web page in Firefox. The selected frame will print only the content in the frame you've last clicked. Each frame separately will print the content from all the frames, but on separate pages. Changing the page setup To change the orientation of the page that prints, change whether background colors and images are printed, page margins, and what to include on the printed pages' header and footer, click on the Firefox File menu and select Page Setup... The Page Setup window will appear. Format and Options The Format & Options tab allows you to change: Orientation: o Select Portrait for most documents and web pages. o Select Landscape for very wide pages and images. Scale: To try to make the web page fit on fewer sheets of printed paper, you can adjust the scale. Shrink to fit automatically adjusts the scale. Options: Select Print Background (colors & images) to have Firefox print backgrounds for web pages. Otherwise, Firefox leaves page backgrounds white.
Margins and Header/ Footer The Margins & Header/Footer tab allows you to change: Margins: You can enter the width of the page margins for the top, bottom, left, and right sides of the page separately. Headers & Footers: Use the dropdown menus to select what appears on the printed page. The top-left dropdown box's value appears at the top-left corner of the page; the top-center dropdown box's value appears at the topcenter portion of the page, and so on. Choose from: o --blank--: Nothing will be printed. o Title: Print the title of the page. o URL: Print the web address of the page. o Date/ Time: Print the date and time when the page was printed. o Page #: Print the page number. o o Page # of #: Print the page number and the total number of pages. Custom...: Enter your own header or footer text. This can be used to show a company or organization name at the top or bottom of every printed page. Click OK to finish making changes and close the Page Setup window. Print preview To see how the web page you want to print will look when printed, click on the Firefox File menu and select Print Preview. The Print Preview window allows you to change some of the options detailed above. Access the Print window by clicking Print..., or the Page Setup window by clicking Page Setup... You can also adjust the scaling and orientation (see above). Click on the arrows next to the Page: field to flip through the pages of the document. The double arrows take you to the first or last page, and the single arrows go to the next or previous page.
Internet Explorer Printing Here are answers to some commonly asked questions about printing in Internet Explorer. Why is my text so small when I print? When you print a webpage, Internet Explorer shrinks the content of the webpage to fit the width of your paper. If the webpage is wide, reducing the text size to fit the page can cause the text to be unreadably small. You can work around this by trying one of the following: Change print orientation to landscape. Select portions of the webpage and print them separately. See the question "How do I print specific parts of a webpage?" that appears later in this topic to learn how to do this. Click the arrow next to the Print button, click Print Preview, and then click Custom in the Change Print Size list. Specify how large you would like the webpage to be printed by setting a percentage in the Custom Size text box. This will enlarge the printed size of the entire webpage, but it might result in some of the webpage being cut off in the printed document. 1. Click to open Internet Explorer. 2. Click the arrow next to the Print button, and then click Print Preview. 3. In the Change Print Size list, click Custom. 4. In the Custom Size text box, specify how large you want the webpage to be printed by setting a percentage. This will enlarge the printed size of the entire webpage, but it might result in some of the webpage being cut off in the printed document. How can I improve legibility when printing webpages? To improve legibility when printing webpages, it might be helpful to stop printing background colors and images. That way, the text will stand out more clearly. To stop printing background colors and images 1. Click to open Internet Explorer. 2. Click the arrow next to the Print button, and then click Page Setup. 3. In the Page Setup dialog box, clear the Print Background Colors and Images check box, and then click OK. Why don't I see the Print dialog box when I click the Print button? When you click the Print button in Internet Explorer, the webpage is printed directly to your default printer. If you want to choose printing options before the page is sent to the printer, do one of the following: Click the arrow next to the Print button, and then click Print. Right-click the webpage, and then click Print. Click the arrow next to the Print button, click Print Preview, and then print from the preview. Click the File menu, and then click Print. Why doesn't Shrink To Fit work when I print some webpages? Some webpages specify exactly where text should print on the page. If the webpage you're printing specifies exactly where the text should print, Shrink To Fit will not work. You can work around this problem by setting a custom scale in print preview. How do I print specific parts of a webpage? If you want to print only a specific part of a webpage (instead of printing the whole thing), follow the steps below. To print selected webpage content
1. Click to open Internet Explorer. 2. Go to the webpage and select the content you want to print. 3. Click the arrow to the right of the Print button, and then click Print. 4. In the Print dialog box, click Selection, and then click Print. Can I print multiple selections at once? No, you can only print one selection at a time. Why do I have to reset the print options every time I open Internet Explorer? Printing changes made within Internet Explorer are always temporary. To make changes permanently, you need to change them in Windows. Why do some types of content not print when I print a webpage? Some multimedia content (such as videos, slide shows, or content created with Adobe Flash) does not print when you print a webpage. To print this type of content, right-click the image or control, and then click Print. Be aware that not all websites will let you print this type of content, due to copyright restrictions. If the Print option is not available, the website will not let you print the content. Why won't my webpages print? Internet Explorer uses the same Windows printing capabilities that other programs use. Your printer must be correctly installed and working in Windows to be able to print webpages. If your printer isn't working with Internet Explorer, try it with a different program, such as your word processor or spreadsheet program.
