2 On behalf of the faculty and staff at Weber State University, I would like to thank you for your military service to our country. We appreciate your dedication and pledge to serve you as you further your education. Weber State University has a variety of flexible learning options and student services designed to meet your educational needs. Whether you plan to attend classes on one of our five campus sites or take classes through WSU Online, we are here to help you every step of the way. Weber State offers over 200 undergraduate degrees, the largest selection in Utah, or you can design your own degree with the Bachelor of Integrated Studies program. Depending on your chosen field, you may be able to complete part, or all, of your degree online. This booklet provides the information you will need to get started or to continue your education at Weber State. Welcome to the university community. Sincerely, F. Ann Millner, President Weber State University
3 At Weber State University, we value your unique experience. As a regional university serving as both a community college and university, we offer you the best of both worlds. Follow the steps in this guide or contact us and join the Weber State Wildcats for your next learning adventure. > Credit for Military Training Weber State may accept some of your military training credits. In order to have these credits applied to your degree at Weber State, you must submit a copy of your DD-214 form. If you have completed other credits that you think may apply to your degree here (i.e. technical credits for a CCAF degree), you will need to contact the advisor of your selected college or program. Credits are awarded on a case by case basis depending on your major or program. Weber State University is a DANTES approved institution. > In-State Tuition Rates If you are active duty, you are likely to quality for resident tuition rates. PRoud to support our service men and women WSU has been ranked as one of the top military-friendly universities in the country by Military Advanced Education.

WSU Ogden 3848 Harrison Blvd., Ogden Admissions: Student Services Center, Rm. 210 GetIntoWeber.com WSU Davis 2750 N. University Park Boulevard, Layton Student Programs and Services: Enrollment Services: weber.edu/davis WSU Kaysville Center Davis High School, Rm S. Main, Kaysville Call for appointment at: weber.edu/kaysville WSU Morgan Center 241 E. Young St., Morgan Enrollment Services: weber.edu/morgan WSU West Center 5627 S W., Roy Enrollment & Student Services: WSU (4978) weber.edu/west Visit weber.edu/weberstatemap for directions. STEP 2 GEt Pre-Admission Advising We ll help you untangle the college web. Contact a pre-admission advisor to get information about how you, as a military/veteran student, can get started with your degree. Call in Ogden or visit the Davis Campus Enrollment office ( ) and we ll help you get started. STEP 3 Apply for Admission > Apply online or in person Once you ve decided WSU is for you, your next step is to apply for admission. You can apply online (weber.edu/admissions) or in person at the Ogden or Davis campus. > Set up a wildcat account A Wildcat account is your one-stop shop for all things Weber. This online portal will allow you to register online, check your transcript, get your student account, check your financial aid status, pay tuition, as well as review many other activities vital to your education at WSU. 5 > Reactivating GI Bill If you are coming back to WSU or have already used your MGIB benefits at another school, you must reactivate your GI Bill by filling out an application for a Change of Place of Training or Program (form ). Take the completed application to Veteran s Services. > Apply for your Veterans Educational Benefits If you haven t applied for your Veterans Educational Benefits, go to STEP 4 See Where you Stand After we process your application, the Admissions Office will notify you if you are required to take a math and English placement exam prior to signing up for classes. A placement exam is a simple test to gauge your knowledge and skills in certain subjects. It s our way of making sure you don t end up taking classes you don t need. If you need to take a placement exam, visit weber.edu/testingcenter for testing center hours and locations. If you live more than 50 miles away from WSU and need to arrange an alternate testing site, call STEP 5 Talk with an Advisor Schedule an appointment with the appropriate academic advisor to create your plan of study. If you already know what you want to study, visit weber.edu/advisors. If you are transferring from another institution, an advisor can also help you determine how to best use your transfer courses. You can also check out the online transfer guide at weber.edu/transferguide, to see which courses may transfer. Nobody likes tests (we get it)» THE ACCUPLACER EXAM is going to test your math, reading comprehension and sentence skills. Once you get your scores, you ll know which math and English classes are the best fit for you. THIS STEP is to help you be successful. It makes sure you re not wasting your time and money in classes you re not ready for (which is especially important if you haven t taken classes in a while).
6 STEP 6 Find out about financial resources > Take your benefits application to veterans services After you ve applied for your Veterans Educational Benefits, submit your application to Veterans Services. > Apply to receive Utah resident tuition rates If you are stationed in Utah on active duty military orders or are a Utah resident stationed outside the state, you and your spouse/dependents likely qualify for resident tuition rates which can be received by completing the application for courtesy military resident classification. > Which GI Bill benefit hould you choose? Visit weber.edu/veteran for a link to review which benefits are right for you.> Want to continue your military service while earning extra money for college? Army ROTC will help pay for college and commission you as a Second Lieutenant into the Reserves or Active duty upon graduation. We are located in Annex 11 and you can contact us at or arotc@weber.edu. > Post-9/11 GI Bill tuition benefits Under the new Post-9/11 GI bill, effective August 2009, eligible students can can get their tuition covered up to the cost of tuition and fees at state public colleges, based on undergraduate resident tuition and fees, in addition to receiving housing and book stipends. > Purple Heart recipient? If you are a Purple Heart recipient, you likely qualify for free full tuition and fees at Weber State University. Take your Purple Heart recipient paperwork to the Financial Aid and Scholarship office. Regardless of your situation or background, there may be resources available to help you with your college expenses. Check with any of the following offices to learn more. STEP 7 REGISTER FOR YOUR CLASSES From Anthropology to Zoology, WSU has something for everyone. 10 Still not convinced We know the idea of coming back to school can be overwhelming, but there are plenty of people and programs designed to help. I don t even know where to begin Staff in the office of Admissions helps military students, and their dependents, complete the admissions process, understand Utah residency requirements for tuition purposes, and transfer coursework from other institutions. To reach to Admissions Office call Academic advisors can answer every question you have about college. They will also go over requirements for your degree and give you information about different class options so you can come up with a schedule that works best for you. You can meet with a general studies advisor by calling the Student Success Center at (Ogden campus) or (Davis Campus). I am a single parent and have no support The Veterans Upward Bound can help you achieve your educational goals. They are FREE of charge and they provide academic assessments, academic instruction in math, English and computer literacy. To contact Veterans Upward Bound call The counseling center provides mental health counseling, outreach, and consultation services that help individuals identify barriers, improve coping, and achieve personal goals. To schedule an appointment call I can t afford to go to school Weber State s financial aid & scholarship office is available to assist you. There are a variety of financial aid programs available to students including scholarships, grants, work study jobs, and loans. All of the programs have one objective, to help make a quality education affordable for you. For questions or more information contact their office at or just stop in the Student Services Building, room 120. No appointment is necessary.
11 «Public or for-profit: The showdown for older students. As more and more older students are returning to college, many for-profit schools have started making aggresive promises. These schools are different from state institutions in the way they are funded and accredited. There are three key factors you ll want to keep in mind as you advance your education. 1) Transfers Most of the classes and credits from for-profit schools won t transfer to state institutions. You could get stuck with a bunch of classes that won t count toward a degree. Credits earned at Weber State are easily transferred to other Utah state schools, and vice versa. 2) Program variety For-profit schools offer only a few programs. Weber State University has more than 230 certificate and degree programs to choose from. So if you change your mind, or the economy changes the job outlook suddenly, you ll have plenty of options. 3) Cost Don t be fooled by silly offers like free laptops. For-profit schools are costly. Check out how Weber State tuition compares to University of Phoenix. (Turns out that free laptop isn t really that free, is it?) Tuition and fees (per semester) Weber State University University of Phoenix (In-state resident) ON CAMPUS Full-time (15 credit hours) Part-time (6 credit hours) $2,274 $1,356 $6,075 $2,430 Online Full-time (15 credit hours) Part-time (6 credit hours) $2,274 $1,356 $5,775 $2,310 (April 2011)
