Our senior consultants work collaboratively with the leadership team to determine where you are now and where you want to go. Information is gathered through a series of classroom observations, interviews and surveys, resulting in a concise report. The Needs Assessment typically makes use of the following tools: Daggett System for Effective Instruction Rubric This powerful tool is used to help determine the level of systemwide alignment based upon key indicators from the DSEI toward instructional effectiveness. Needs Assessment Report Rexford High School Rexford, NY As the following chart indicates, Rexford met the participation requirements for students taking the appropriate assessments, but did not make AYP overall in both math and ELA or for the graduation rate. January 2012 The following key challenges have been identified: Address the instructional needs of students with diverse learning abilities in regular classrooms, including students with disabilities, to improve reading and math scores. o Establish the expectation that best practice instructional strategies are to be used by all staff in all classrooms. o Use the professional development structures the cadre of teacher leaders and collaborative team professional development sessions on Mondays to develop and support implementation of rigorous and relevant instructional strategies. o Increase teacher access to and use of instructional resources. o Support teachers in the development of strategies and skills for differentiating instruction to meet the needs of the diverse learning levels in their classrooms. o Continue to develop a shared vision at Rexford to create a culture of high expectations and a laser like focus on effective instruction. Establish a culture of high expectations for student success shared by students, teachers, administrators, staff, and parents. o Institute accountability for student success at all levels. o Continue to build an environment that fosters strong teacher student relationships. o Encourage greater student participation in school leadership. o Introduce students to the concepts of rigor, relevance, and learner engagement. Develop structures that support effective instruction for student success. 4 WE Surveys These surveys evaluate how students, instructional staff, leadership, and community members perceive the instruction, learning environment, and level of engagement. The output of these surveys show similarities and disparities in perceptions which helps determine where to focus improvement efforts. Data Analysis Report This in-depth review provides quantitative evidence to help identify strengths and areas of need. 5 Needs Assessment and Strategic Planning can be focused on Common Core, College & Career-Readiness, or Comprehensive School Improvement Strategic Planning Building on the information gathered in the Needs Assessment, we collaborate with the leadership team to prioritize your needs, develop an action plan, and determine how to measure our efforts. All of this comes together in the Strategic Plan, which serves as a road map for your school improvement initiative. Staff and stakeholder buy-in is essential, which is why we have developed proven practices for facilitating strategic-planning discussions around this document. STRATEGIC PLAN Rexford High School Rexford, NY March 2012 Awareness-Building Keynote Addresses Understanding that CHANGE is critical is a first step toward creating a new and vibrant culture of ongoing school improvement. A keynote presentation creates awareness and helps build consensus with stakeholders at every level by addressing 4 crucial questions: why change is needed NOW what needs to change according to current data, research, and best practices where is the new, agreed-upon direction how will that change occur Our world-renowned keynoters leave their audiences energized and motivated to contribute to positive change. 8 Professional Development Courses and Job-Embedded Instructional Coaching for Teachers Research supports what most of us see as common sense: what goes on between the teacher and each student is central to high-level learning. We help you build effective teaching practices through a powerful, high-impact sequence that consists of a blend of face-to-face courses, online tools, and job-embedded coaching. Face-to-Face Courses Foundations of Effective Instruction Teachers develop and enhance their expertise through research-based, classroom-tested teaching practices. Our consultants provide in-person professional development that enables every teacher to transform instruction. Coaching is personalized to meet the needs of each individual teacher, but typically consists of: Personalized support to help teachers implement and monitor instructional strategies and assessments Observation and feedback to help build skills to increase student achievement Facilitated data analysis to provide strategies and tactics to meet the needs of all students Coaches can visit up to four teachers per day. We recommend a sustained coaching initiative consisting of at least one visit per month per teacher. This will be customized to meet your specific objectives and needs Route 146 Rexford, NY leadered.com P: (518) F: (518)
