The stove also meets the most stringent environmental requirements and is Swan marked. Warning During operation, certain surfaces of the stove become very hot and can cause burn injury if touched. Be aware of the strong heat radiated through the hatch glass. Placing flammable material closer than the safe distance indicated may cause a fire. Pyre lighting can cause quick gas ignition with the risk of damage to property and personal injury. The owner of the house is personally responsible for ensuring compliance with the mandatory safety requirements and must have the installation approved by a qualified inspector. 4 General This manual contains instructions about how the Contura 580W must be constructed and installed. To ensure the function and safety of the stove, we recommend that the installation is carried out by an authorised technician. Instructions for lighting and use are also supplied with the stove. Read them carefully and keep them safe for future use. The stove is type approved and must be connected to a chimney dimensioned for at least 350 C, the external connection diameter is Ø150 mm. Ask your local authority for advice regarding building regulations and the application. Structural design The instructions indicate how Nibe recommends the stove is installed. Always check with an authorised chimney sweep that the installation method is an approved method and that the chimney/walls have sufficient support before starting installation. Hearth plate To protect the floor from any embers the stove must be supplied with a hearth plate. If the floor under the stove is flammable, it must be protected by a non-flammable material. The hearth plate can consist of natural stone, concrete or 0.7 mm metal. As the requirements for the size of the hearth plate can vary at different installation heights, you should check what is applicable with your chimney sweep. In general the hearth plate must protrude at least 300 mm in front of the stove and at least 100 mm to the side. If the bottom of the stove is 400 mm above the floor, the distance must be increased by half the protruding height. This should be checked with your chimney sweep. Chimney The stove requires negative pressure in the chimney of at least 12 Pa. The negative pressure is affected both by the length and area of the chimney, and by how well sealed it is. Minimum recommended chimney length is 3.5 m and a suitable cross section area is cm² ( mm in diameter). Carefully check that the chimney is sealed and that there is no leakage around soot hatches and flue connections. Note that a flue with sharp bends and horizontal routing reduces the draught in the chimney. Maximum horizontal flue is 1 m, on the condition that the vertical flue length is at least 5 m. It must be possible to sweep the full length of the flue and the soot hatches must be easily accessible. When top connecting a steel flue please refer to the relevant manufacturer s installation instructions. Observe the safety distances to combustible material that steel flues require. The minimum distance in front of the stove opening to combustible parts of the building or interior decoration must be at least 1 m. A = height from floor to chimney connection. The amount of combustion air that is used for combustion is approx. 25m³/h. HK Indirect air supply through the external wall. 33

6 Unpacking Leave the stove body screwed in place on the pallet. Place supplied components to one side. Dismantle all the loose components from the stove body (grate disc, fire-box surround and heat deflector under the stove body). Important! The stove body may tip forwards. Therefore, do not remove the stove body from the pallet until the other loose components have been removed. Lift up the grate disc at the righthand edge so that it detaches from the control lug. Lift up the smoke baffle and remove the side section. Lift the smoke baffle out and remove the remaining sections. 1 2 Press the deflector plate up under the stove body and move it backwards. Angle down the front edge and pull the plate out. Leave all these components uninstalled until the stove has been screwed to the wall and the surround kit has been installed. Reinstall the components in reverse order. 34

7 Connection to chimney The stove body is prepared for top connection on delivery. When connecting from the rear, the cover and connection must be swapped around. Rear connection to a masonry chimney Mark out the centre for making a hole in the wall to the flue. Make a 180 mm diameter hole. Fold in the tabs on the connector so that they create a stop for the flue pipe. Then cement in the connector with fireproof mortar (not supplied). Allow the mortar to dry before installing the back plate. Important! Take care when making holes to prevent cracks from forming outside the hole as this affects the rigidity of the stove mounting. The hole should not be larger than the recommended dimension of 180 mm. 35

8 50 mm GB Assembling the stove Ø 8 mm Place the back plate opposite the connector. Check that the back plate is vertical and mark the mounting holes you wish to use. Select holes so that it is as far away from any joints as possible. Pre-drill the hole using an 8mm concrete drill; the hole must be at least 80 mm deep. Clean the hole carefully and screw the back plate to the chimney breast using the 4 supplied concrete screws. Screws that do not tighten must be considered useless and be moved to new holes. Insert the connection pipe into the wall connector towards the folded tabs. Check that the pipe protrudes 50 mm from the back plate and caulk between the connection pipe and the connector in the wall using caulking rope. If further sealing material is required, heat-resistant sealant may be used Screw the heat deflectors onto the back plate using 2 panel screws per heat deflector 36

9 Install the suspension brackets on the stove body using 2 screws. Detach the stove body from the leg by unscrewing the 4 screws. Lift the stove body from the leg and suspend the brackets on the body above the back plate s upper mounting angle. 37

10 Lower the lower edge of the stove body so that the stove body is vertical. Insert the stove body towards the back plate so that the stove connector slides into the connection pipe. Lock the stove body using 2 screws at the upper edge. Check that the stove body is suspended vertically. If necessary, the stove body can be adjusted forwards at the lower edge using two adjuster screws at the lower edge. Lock the stove body using 2 screws at the lower edge. 38

11 1 2 2 Hook the side plate into the back plate and turn the front edge in towards the stove body. Secure the side panel at the front edge using a screw at the upper edge and a screw at the lower edge. Place the type plates with production number and installation distances on the under side of the protective plate. Then screw the protective plate securely into place with the plates turned downwards. Assembling the stove top Lay the soap stone top (or Steel top, cast iron top) in place, remember to handle with care. Finish by placing the hot air grille and cover on the soap stone top. Important! Before the stove is used, it must be inspected by an authorised chimney sweep. Read the Instructions for Lighting the Contura 500 series before lighting the fire for the first time. 39
