5 ( ) Solar Energy Potential - GEPA The Atlas of Solar Energy Potential (GEPA) was prepared by GDRE in 2007 Yearly and monthly data on solar variables are available (resolution of 500 x 500 m 2 ) from GEPA These data include: - Global, Direct, Diffuse solar radiation - Sunlight duration

9 The current use of solar energy in Turkey Unfortunately, there is no any solar thermal power plant The first feasibility research of 10 MW power tower was performed by EUAS (electricity generation company)

10 The current use of solar energy in Turkey Solar energy is used mainly in water heating 18 million m 2 flat-plate solar collectors are under use Annual flat-plate solar collector production capacity is nearly 1 million m²

11 The current use of solar energy in Turkey The total capacity of installed photovoltaic is approximately 4000 kw used in: Off-grid houses, forest fire, watching towers, highways, communication towers and meteorological stations.

12 Solar Energy Legislations The YEK (Law on Utilization of Renewable Energy Resources for the Purpose of Generating Electricity) was prepared by MENR The aims of YEK is to: - Expand the utilization of renewable energy resources - To increase the diversification of energy resources - To reduce greenhouses gas emission - To evaluate waste product - To protect environment - To developed the system for manufacturing required equipment

13 Solar Energy Legislations A total capacity of 600 MW solar power plants will be developed by the end of 2013 by private sector The ministry of council will determine the new capacity after 2013 The maximum power for solar energy project should be less than 50 MW The owner of the land should be given the priority for the license to construct a solar energy project

14 According to the law, the government guarantees the10-year prices in cents US/kWh as: Hydroelectric wind power Wind power Geothermal power Biomass power Solar power 7,3 cents-us/kwh 7,3 cents-us/kwh 10,5 cents-usus/kwh 13,3 cents-us/kwh 13,3 cents-us/kwh 14

15 MENR released the list including the names and connection capacities of 121 sub-stations inside or near the promising areas for license applications This restriction is not valid for the systems with power less than 500 kw and it does not required a license

17 EMRA (Energy Market Regulatory Authority) announced that: Applications for license of solar Energy power plant will be accepted within June The requirements for this license are: The land should not be a first -class farming field To establish solar power plant, the investor has to measure solar variables (ground data) for a minimum period of 6 months The investor also, has to obtain a data for another 6 months without the condition of ground measurement (example through DLR, NASA, METEONORM)

18 The ground measurement data should be used for a single license application Only application from areas where global horizontal radiation is higher than 1620 kwh/m2.year will be accepted For each MW the maximum land is 2 Ha > 1650 kwh/m 2.yıl kwh/m 2.yıl kwh/m 2.yıl

20 FUTURE PLANS According to the Strategy Paper of Ministery of Energy and Natural Resources, the targets in renewables are defined as follows: 1-Providing resource diversification with priority of domestic resources. Make available all domestic resources and maximum renewable energy resources in Increase renewable energy share in energy supply. Make renewable share available at least 30% in electricity generation in 2023.

21 Complete all hydro power plants (HPPs) under construction (total MW capacity ) by the end of Increase wind power installed capacity up to MW by the end of Increase geothermal power installed capacity up to 300 MW by the end of Reach an installed capacity of at least 3000 MW in solar power by the end of 2023.
