2 Fathers for our Children: Awards Ceremony This year marks the 12 th Annual Fathers for our Children awards ceremony and scholarship fundraiser. This annual event, featured the scholars of s, was created to honor men of outstanding character, who serve as positive male role models "father figures" to the students of the Newark, NJ-based. Honorees are selected based on their commitment to encouraging; enlightening and inspiring our youth to succeed, as well as their overall commitment to Newark youth. This year s honorees are: Preston Pinkett, Chairman & CEO, City National Bank; Rev. John Baker, Pastor of Cross and Crown Church and the Honorable Ras J. Baraka, Mayor of Newark. For the first time, FFOC will also pay homage to an outstanding company Goldman Sachs. Since its inception, the MPTCS Foundation has awarded more than 160 scholarships totaling more than $250,000. MPTCS is one of a few charter schools in the state of New Jersey, and one of the few nationally, that offers this extent of support to its alumni. By awarding scholarships, the Foundation insures that tuition does not become a barrier to students who wish to continue their education at high quality colleges and universities MPTCS alumni have attended: Quinnipiac, Spelman, Swarthmore, Franklin & Marshall, St. Michael s, Rutgers and Montclair State Universities and Colleges, to name a few. About (MPTCS) has been providing educational opportunities to the students and families of Newark for the past 16 years. MPTCS has remained firm in its ongoing commitment to the development of a high quality school and the advocacy of parental choice in the field of education. MPTCS was established to be a community-based model for schools, believing that it takes a whole village to raise a child. Stakeholders of the school and the community continue to devote resources to the school to develop students into responsible citizens and successful adults.
