1 Qualification Test Report Micro Coax ZIF Connector Jul11 Rev C All Paragraphs Revised 1. INTRODUCTION 1.1. Purpose 1.2. Scope Testing was performed on the TE Connectivity (TE) Micro Coax Zero Insertion Force (ZIF) Connector to determine its conformance to the requirements of Product Specification Revision B. This report covers the electrical, mechanical, and environmental performance of the Micro Coax ZIF Connector. Testing was performed at the Harrisburg Electrical Components Test Laboratory between 27Jul94 and 14Nov94. The test file number for this testing is CTL This documentation is on file at and available from the Harrisburg Electrical Components Test Laboratory Conclusion The Micro Coax ZIF Connector listed in paragraph 1.5., conformed to the electrical, mechanical, and environmental performance requirements of Product Specification Revision B Product Description The Micro Coax ZIF Connector is a high density, surface compressive interconnection system suitable for use in the medical electronics industry. The connector system has high mating and unmating reliability and requires no lubrication or service over its design life Test Specimens Test specimens were representative of normal production lots. Specimens identified with the following part numbers were used for test: 1.6. 3 2. SUMMARY OF TESTING 2.1. Initial Examination of Product - All Test Groups All specimens submitted for testing were selected from normal production lots. They were inspected and accepted by the Product Assurance Department of the Advanced Sensors and Interconnection Systems Revision Termination Resistance, Dry Circuit - Test Groups 1, 2 and 3 All termination resistance measurements, taken at 100 milliamperes maximum and 50 millivolts maximum open circuit voltage were less than 50 milliohms initially and had a maximum change in resistance (ΔR) of less than 10 milliohms after testing. TEST METHODS 3.1. Initial Examination of Product Product drawings and inspection plans were used to examine the specimens. They were examined visually and functionally Termination Resistance, Dry Circuit Termination resistance measurements were made using a 4 terminal measuring technique (Figure 4). The test current was maintained at 100 milliamperes maximum with a 50 millivolt maximum open circuit voltage. Figure 4 Termination Resistance Measurement Points Rev C 4 of 6

5 3.3. Insulation Resistance Insulation resistance was measured between adjacent contacts of unmated specimens. A test voltage of 500 volts DC was applied for 2 minutes before the resistance was measured Withstanding Voltage A test potential of 1200 volts AC was applied between adjacent contacts of unmated specimens for 1 minute and then returned to zero Sinusoidal Vibration Mated specimens were subjected to sinusoidal vibration, having a simple harmonic motion with an amplitude of.06 inch double amplitude. The vibration frequency was varied uniformly between the limits of 10 and 55 Hz and returned to 10 Hz in 1 minute. This cycle was performed for 2 hours in each of 3 mutually perpendicular planes. Specimens were monitored for discontinuities of 1 microsecond or greater using a current of 100 milliamperes DC Mechanical Shock Mated specimens were subjected to a mechanical shock test having a half-sine waveform of 50 gravity units (g peak) and a duration of 11 milliseconds. Three shocks in each direction were applied along the 3 mutually perpendicular planes for a total of 18 shocks. Specimens were monitored for discontinuities of 1 microsecond or greater using a current of 100 milliamperes DC Durability Specimens were mated and unmated 100 times at a maximum rate of 500 cycles per hour Mating Torque The torque required to mate individual specimens was measured using a torque wrench applied to the specimen locking handle Thermal Shock Mated specimens were subjected to 25 cycles of thermal shock with each cycle consisting of 30 minute dwells at 10 and 70 C with 1 minute transition between temperatures Humidity/temperature Cycling Unmated specimens were exposed to 10 humidity/temperature cycles. Each cycle lasted 24 hours and consisted of cycling the temperature between 25 and 65 C twice while maintaining 95% RH Temperature Life Mated specimens were exposed to a temperature of 55 C for 1000 hours. Specimens were preconditioned with 10 cycles of durability Mixed Flowing Gas, Class II Mated specimens were exposed for 14 days to a mixed flowing gas Class II exposure. Class II exposure is defined as a temperature of 30 C and a relative humidity of 70% with the pollutants of Cl 2 at 10 ppb, NO 2 at 200 ppb and H 2 S at 10 ppb. Specimens were preconditioned with 10 cycles of durability. Rev C 5 of 6
