Moving from Analysis to Action Luzelma Canales, Ph.D., RGV Focus Kirsten Delay, Analyst, Educate Texas April 12, 2016

Moving from Analysis to Action Introduction Guiding Question What percentage of Class of 2016 seniors have successfully completed the FAFSA application?

Moving from Analysis to Action Step 1 Make Predictions and Explore Assumptions Facilitator asks each person to make a prediction. Then asks for assumption on which the prediction is based. Recorder lists all predictions with corresponding assumptions on a T chart. Predictions Assumptions

Moving from Analysis to Action Step 2 Exploring the Data Look at the data. What do you see? What pops out or surprises you? What patterns or trends? Refrain from the why discussion. This is not about explaining, but is about sorting, analyzing, comparing and contrasting. Patterns Validate and target Trends for organization.

FAFSA Report Guide 55

Actionable FAFSA Data 56

Moving from Analysis to Action Step 3 Acting on the Data What are possible causes for where the data stand? What are some conclusions? Brainstorm at least 3 potential causes impacting the data. What other data or information would be useful? Then, based on causes, brainstorm multiple action steps or solutions. Three Potential Causes & Additional Data Cause 1 Cause 2 Cause 3 Additional Data

Moving from Analysis to Action Building Consensus Action/Strategy Facilitator leads group to consensus by asking them to agree to discuss one of the solutions or actions that could be expected to be the most successful with current resources (time, money, staffing, etc.) Then ask the measurement question: How will we know that this solution/action is achieving the expected outcome? Action Campus District Measurement Note you have county data

Moving from Analysis to Action Recap/Debrief How did the protocol and process work for the group? What are group members thinking and feeling about their roles and the outcomes of the process? How could the process be used in other groups and with other data? How does the new information inform or modify original assumptions? Feedback on Protocol & Process

Moving from Analysis to Action Parking Lot Items Items for Future Discussion

DO Try This At Home! The data protocol packet will be available online after the meeting (look for an from us with the meeting materials) The FAFSA data is available on our NEW Data tab on the TxCAN website! reports/
