1 Wellness Manager $95, $116,000/year South Metro Fire Rescue Authority (SMFRA) is looking for a Wellness Manager to administer the Wellness and Fitness Program for SMFRA employees. This is a new position that will be responsible for designing programs to promote wellness and fitness for Authority personnel and implementing cost saving methods to reduce employee benefit costs. Primary responsibilities of the Wellness Manager include, but are not limited to: planning, directing, organizing and appraising components of the Wellness and Fitness Program. Specific responsibilities include: workers compensation administration, strategic planning and evaluation, design of programs to promote wellness and fitness for personnel, and, implement cost saving methods to reduce employee benefit costs. SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Works under the general supervision of the Assistant Chief of Support Services SUPERVISION EXERCISED: Supervises the wellness duties of the Peer Fitness Trainers and Academic Interns ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Administers and monitors the Members Wellness, Workers Compensation, Modified Duty and Annual Physicals Programs Administers annual wellness evaluation for all personnel Administers annual and return to work fit for duty assessments
2 Coordinates and/or administers conditioning process for members who do not meet the fit for duty standards; designs, administers and monitors exercise prescriptions for all members Provides compliance results to appropriate staff on fit for duty assessments upon request Provides annual breakdown of physical fitness test results for Wellness evaluations and fit for duty test Provides presentations to Authority Board, Line and Staff on a variety of topics Manages compliance of selected NFPA Occupational Medical, Wellness and Fitness standards for the Authority Manages workers compensation program, administers claims, reviews claims, evaluates claims for trends, fraud, safety awareness, etc. Manages workers compensation healthcare providers, claims process providers, and third party administrators Works under direction of workers compensation doctor in providing non-acute exercise programs, flexibility programs, dietary programs and/or educational workshops to assist in rehabilitation process Administers work hardening program for workers compensation and modified duty personnel under direction of Authority or Primary Care Physician Assists in coordination of tracking all workers compensation claims, analyze trends, and develops programs to address unfavorable trends Manages the modified duty program and physical rehabilitation Maintains confidential, accurate, and timely wellness records on Authority personnel Performs ergonomic evaluations for Authority personnel as requested Coordinates wellness activities and educational workshops, lectures and demonstrations Development of wellness manual and nutritional manual for Authority personnel Provide one-on-one counseling in health related areas such as weight control, diet related issues, blood work, exercise programs, weight training, posture, back care, lifting techniques, etc. Administers pre-placement physical ability test for new hires
3 Assists in the coordination and instruction of the physical fitness program for the new recruit academy Coordinates the routine maintenance of the fitness equipment at all Authority locations, coordinate repairs and warranty work Identifies resources and trains personnel to serve as Peer Fitness Trainers to promote wellness and fitness to personnel within the Authority Perform job-site analysis for ergonomics, workers compensation claims, safety purposes, injury prevention Responsible for financial analysis, bid process and evaluation of worker s compensation and annual physical programs Prepares and administers the Wellness and Workers Compensation budget; assists in budget implementation; participates in the forecast of additional funds needed for insurance, medical services, equipment, materials, and supplies MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, LICENSES & CERTIFICATIONS Master s Degree in Wellness, Exercise Physiology, Physical Therapy, Sports Science or equivalent field of specialization from an accredited university 5 years of experience administering a workplace wellness program 5 years of exercise/wellness testing, administration and evaluation 2 years of experience with Workers Compensation administration preferred Personal Trainer or Health Fitness Certification preferred (IAFF/IAFC-ACSM- CrossFit or similar) CPR Certified Colorado Driver s License (or ability to obtain by date of hire) Insurable by Authority s liability insurance provider OR An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job, such as those listed above. NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Strong working knowledge of the principles, procedures, practices, and theories of wellness, workers compensation, NFPA physical and medical requirements, health education, preventative medicine, rehabilitation, exercise physiology, anatomy, and nutrition Ability to conduct training programs

Also includes; climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, hearing, seeing. The incumbent is frequently required to reach with hands and arms. Incumbent must communicate clearly and effectively; must understand and be understood. Must be able to demonstrate proper body mechanics of exercises and use of equipment

Must be able to hear and differentiate sounds. Requires frequent use of equipment including: personal computer (including various software packages, database, and spreadsheet programs), exercise equipment, Authority automobiles, calculators, telephones, facsimile machines, copy machines, cameras, printers, and other general office equipment. WORK ENVIRONMENT AND GENERAL INFORMATION: While performing the duties of this job, the employee primarily works in a climate controlled office environment. The work environment also includes inside and outdoor exercise facilities. Some work may be performed at fire stations and training facility. May be exposed to: wet/humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; outdoor weather conditions such as extreme hot or cold; and high noise levels.
