1 House style guide Use of a uniform house style makes the TU/e easily identifiable everywhere and by everyone. The house style contributes to a self-conscious communication that is appropriate to an internationally prominent university. We are proud of the TU/e and show this. The TU/e wants to underline its presentation as a single organization. This implies that all organizational entities present the same face to the outside, using the TU/e logo and the prescribes basic elements for their communication. This house style guide explains how to use the TU/e house style.

2 Correspondence resources The identity of the TU/e is largely determined by the house style. The correspondence resources are a vital part of this house style. Letters, faxes, reports, etc. appear on the desks of our business relations and partners and thus determine the face of our organisation. It is therefore important to adhere consistently to the house style instructions. Below is a summary of the correspondence resources that are available. See for more information. Letter and secondary page(s) The letter is intended for formal correspondence. Letters are printed on pre-printed paper and secondary pages on blank paper. The pre-printed stationery is available via the easy order system. The letter can be composed using the correspondence tool. Covering letter The covering letter is used as a cover sheet for sending documents by post. It consists of one page and is printed on house style paper. This can be done using the correspondence tool. With compliments card You can send documents by post enclosing a With compliments card on which that you can have your departmental details printed and order via the easy order system. Envelopes For sending letters use the standard C5 or C4 envelope with a window and pre-printed TU/e logo. The letter is designed such that the address details fit exactly in the window. You can order printed envelopes with a window via the easy order system. Address labels Blank address labels should be used on pre-printed envelopes without a window. If you wish to send, for example, a cylinder, package or large envelope, use the pre-printed labels. For both labels use the correspondence tool so that everything is printed in the right place. Envelopes and address labels can be ordered via the easy order system. Fax and memo Faxes and memos can be composed using the correspondence tool. Both forms are printed in black lettering on blank paper. Business cards Business cards can be ordered via the easy order system. The layout of the business cards is prescribed and you can choose between Dutch, English or dual language. Reports You can compile a report using the correspondence tool. There are templates available for the following pages: Title page: printed on pre-printed stationery. Contents: automatic layout and printed on pre-printed stationery. Text pages: printed on blank paper.

This system works in Microsoft Word and ensures that all data arrive automatically in the right location. Below is an explanation of how to work with the correspondence tool. Go to: P:\TUe huisstijl\msi (or \\campusf\projects\tue huisstijl\msi). Double click on the file labeled TUe Correspondence Tool.msi and follow the wizard instructions.. Starting the correspondence tool Start Microsoft Word. Click on the button and the template selection screen appears.. Set language The system default language is English.. Entering you personal data (just once) The first time you use the system, you will need to enter your personal data (just once). Choose Data storage in the Template Selection window. Then choose Add. After filling in the fields, save the information by clicking on Save and Close.

Click on Employee and choose your own name. You can also choose the name of a co-worker for whom you are going to create a document.. Creating a letter, memo, report, etc. Double click on the icon letter (or memo, fax, etc.). A screen appears for you to fill in. Fill in all the required data (note: this may be 2 screens) and press Finish. The document will now be created and you can proceed to enter the content. Before printing the document, you must first install the printer using the user manual (see

6 Basic elements of the TU/e house style Logo Logo and nomenclature The logo comprises two components always used together: the acronym TU/e and the nomenclature. The duallanguage nomenclature enhances an international allure. Logo and color The logo has blue letters and a red slash. This logo is always on a white background. Where the background is blue, the letters are white and the slash red. Coordinate system A striking element in the house style is the coordinate system comprising a horizontal line and an oblique line. This connects the different elements of the logo, image, color areas and text. The coordinate system is symbolic of the dynamic TU/e network. Color Use of color is a key characteristic of the house style. To this end a color palette has been created with main and subsidiary colors, all of which are used as full colors. By using adequate white, a freshness is emanated. Warm Red Wit Process Cyan 137 Yellow Original files The TU/e logo has been specially designed and may not be modified. Always use the original file. Files in diverse formats can be downloaded from Slogan The slogan is used on all recruiting campaigns of the TU/e. 226 TU/e main and subsidiary colors Fonts The house style font for all printed communication is Meta. For letters, reports and PowerPoint presentations we use the standard Arial font. Images Green 3135 The images (photos and illustrations) that we use are active and dynamic. Special items are emphasized and the details are important. Use of colors from the color palette gives the images a TU/e allure.

8 Style guide Nomenclature in text In text the name of the university must be written in full with TU/e in parentheses in the first instance. In the Dutch text the Dutch nomenclature will be used and in the English text the English. Thereafter use TU/e only. Pay attention to use of upper and lower case letters. (TU/e) (TU/e) Telephone and fax numbers National: of International: of English The TU/e uses American English in all English language correspondence and communication. Terminology list On there is a terminology list containing both Dutch and English terms frequently used at the TU/e. PowerPoint presentations A set style for PowerPoint presentations enhances the identity of the TU/e. Different templates have been developed: a template for standard presentations and a template for presentations containing a lot of text (as in research presentations). For both variants you can select from 5 different colors and 3 different title pages.
