6 STUDENT PROFILE Images courtesy of Visit Orlando. Location, Location, Sure, you know about Disney, Universal and SeaWorld. But did you know that Central Florida has 100-plus theme parks and attractions? There are also more than 5,000 restaurants and an array of beautiful beaches just a short drive away, making this area one of the top vacation destinations in the world. As a UCF student, you can take advantage of all of this and more year-round. And you ll never have to put on snow boots for any of it. In fact, our weather is so mild, you can usually wear shorts on Thanksgiving. Our sunny days are perfect for studying on the grass or by the Reflecting Pond. Ryan Rust Driven Imagine 250,000 people (and growing) in 24 countries working together to send care packages to soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan. Ryan Rust s Adopt a Hero program connects the generous with those far from home. I ve always lived by the saying: If not you, then who? As an accomplished race car driver, Ryan has won more than 90 races. For me, racing comes down to fun, but it s also the competition of it all. But Orlando is not just theme parks. Our area has seen rapid growth and economic expansion as a center for the life sciences, medical innovation and technological developments. That s why nearly 60 percent of our alumni stay in Central Florida to start their careers. More and more, Central Florida is becoming a Knight nation. It s a great place to live, work and play. Will you be its next permanent resident? 9
