1 LEOPARD NEWS Lantern Road Elementary School Lantern Road, Fishers, IN December 4, 2015 I never met a person from whom I did not learn something. ~John Wooden PRINCIPAL S POINTS - I hope you were able to enjoy the Thanksgiving Holiday with your child! The boys and I ate WAY too much turkey and pie, but that is pretty typical for this time of year, right?! Our choirs performed a wonderful Holiday Program last night. Thank you to Mrs. Larocco, our students, and their parents for all of the preparations leading up to last night! We are exactly 10 school days away from a much needed two week Winter Break. I am sure every student is just like my own nine year old. When I tucked him into bed last night, he said, Just 12 days left, right? And he LOVES school!! The point of the story is the fact that everyone is ready for the Winter Break students, teachers, administrators, parents but we have to keep working hard over the next 10 school days to finish the semester STRONG! Please remind your child to continue to do their best each and every day while at school and at home too! Don t forget, Lantern Road Elementary School is on Facebook! 2 PTO NEWS Remember, Life Rules are Rules to Live By! S.P.O.R.T.S Promise Rd. Fishers, IN (317) BOOK FAIR THANK YOU! The Book Fair was a huge success this year! A big thank you to all the volunteers; we couldn't have done it without you! Thanks to everyone who shopped to raise money for our school. Our library will be able to buy new books and other items for our students. Additionally, we collected over $500 for the All For Books program. Brookside Elementary teachers and students will receive wonderful books for their classroom libraries. Thank you again; see you at the next Book Fair in February! MARK YOUR CALENDARS FOR THE CLASSROOM WINTER PARTIES DECEMBER 18 The PTO and room parents coordinate a holiday party for each class on December 18. Parents can attend and details on the time for the party and how to sign up will be coming from your room parent. Because of your generous response to our fundraisers this year, the PTO is able to pay for a snack for each student and give the room parent a stipend to pay for prizes for games or to use toward a fun craft. Thank you for being generous throughout the year so that we can provide fun and engaging activities for the students. THE 15TH ANNUAL LRES SCIENCE FAIR - FEBRUARY 4TH & 5TH The LRES Science Fair is sponsored by the LRES PTO to promote interest in science and technology and is open to students in grades 1-4. What you need to know now: An info session will be held December 8th at 7 pm for parents and students interested in the science fair. Learn about the science fair rules, the scientific methods, what to include on the poster, judging criteria, and see previous examples of science projects. Volunteers are needed! If you have a background or an interest in science and research, or just want to help out, please consider volunteering for this event. For those interested in judging student project, judging dates are during school on February 4-5. Entry forms for students are due January 25th, no late entries are accepted. Be thinking about your project and come to the informational meeting with any questions you have or contact Beth Kay at LREsciencefair@gmail.com. Parents and players in grades 2-8 are invited to meet board members and coaches for the 2016 Southeastern Youth Rugby season on Tuesday, December 8 at 7:00 p.m. The orientation will involve a brief overview of the sport, parents' Q&A, and a review of fees and game schedules. HSE-FISHERS BOYS LACROSSE CALLOUT MEETING If your son is interested in playing SELECT or TRAVEL lacrosse this spring, it is important that you attend one of the two callout meetings. We will be announcing some important changes to the program. The first will be on December 9 and the second on January 13. Topics will include travel and select boys lacrosse. We will discuss team structure, tournaments and lacrosse in general. Parents are encouraged to attend one of these dates if their sons are interested in trying out for travel or select lacrosse. Select teams play rec lacrosse as well as limited travel tournaments. A third call out for rec lacrosse will be held in February. The meeting will be held in the Billericay Community Room from 6:30-8:00 p.m. You can reach boys lacrosse at hsefisherslacrosse@gmail.com or Daniel Coppersmith HSE-FISHERS BOYS LACROSSE will be holding stick skills clinics on January 5, 12 and 26 from 5:30-7:00 p.m. All are welcome to attend, but stick skill sessions are geared towards players new to lacrosse or with 1-2 years of experience. We will focus on basic stick management, passing and techniques. These stick skill sessions will be held indoors and the cost will be approximately $45.
