2 Second Sunday of Advent Saturday and Sunday December 3 & 4, On that day, a shoot shall sprout from the stump of Jesse, and from his roots a bud shall blossom. (Isaiah 11:1) Dear Friends, The verse (above) from the Book of the Prophet Isaiah is part of the prophecy regarding the coming of a messiah. Whenever we read it, we obviously think of the coming celebration of the birth of Jesus. I would like to invite us to expand our reflection on this passage. Last Tuesday evening we had the first of our 4 Advent evenings of reflection. The topic was, The Spirit of Advent: How to Wait in a Hurried World. I made the statement that we all spend a good portion of our lives waiting on something: traffic, test results, how a relationship will develop, and so on. The biblical type of waiting, to which we are all called, invites us to consider not only what is to come but also what already is. Look for the places in your life where a shoot...or sprout of goodness has already blossomed. Look for it in the simple, everyday things. Simply put, with everything going on in our lives and in the world today, what gives you hope? Who are the people who help you get up everyday and do what you have to do? What are some of the experiences in which you have already experienced the reality, that, God has visited his people? This Tuesday we will offer our second evening of reflection, entitled, A Theology of Suffering: Why Bad Things Happen to Good People. I hope you can join us as we take a look at the mystery of suffering and how we grapple with it in day to day living. Have a great week! Sincerely yours, Fr. Trey Nelson Pastor

That s wonderful when we truly want our donations to work. Your gift works for elderly religious by helping to furnish medications, nursing care, and more. Please support next week s collection for the Retirement Fund for Religious, and give to those who have given a lifetime. The collection for the Retirement Fund for Religious will be next weekend.
