THE OFFICIAL STUDENT PUBLICATION OF LA SALLE GREEN HILLS ADULT NIGHT HIGH SCHOOL THIRD TRIMESTER S.Y VOL. X NO. 3 Graduates to look back with a sense of gratitude By Lorela V. Talingting, 5-A Br. Felipe C. Belleza Jr. FSC, President of La Salle Green Hills, advised the graduates to look back with a sense of gratitude to our patron, St. John Baptist de La Salle as he delivered his message during the Baccalaureate Mass and Graduation Rites of 64 high school and 388 TVET graduates for S.Y held last March 16, 2012 at the St. Benilde Gymnasium. ANHS students have proven that age does not matter when it comes to studying as testified by Jocelyn M. Yu, the recipient of the highest honors. She said that it was not easy managing her time as a parent and as a student, but she still pursued her goals. Because of ANHS, she developed her confidence. Now she is ready to face the bigger challenges of her life. Other Academic Excellence Awardees include Mariam Camille A. Tambio - Second Honors and Lorela V. Talingting - Third Honors. Awards of distinction were also given to students who dedicated their stay in the school to serve their fellow students and the community. As what Fr. Joselito Buenafe, the mass presider, said Ibahagi kung paano naging tunay na saksi sa pagmamahal ng Panginoon. Recipients of Awards of Distinction include Amalia S. Dejarlo - St. Br. Benilde Award, James Last T. Dela Cruz - St. Mutien Marie Award, Anthony S. Dabuet - Blessed Br. Solomon Award, and Renz Kenneth L. Rivera - Br. Jaime Hilario Award. Renz Kenneth Rivera was also interviewed by GMA 7 reporter JP Soriano before the graduation rites. Rivera is also the recipient of Gold medal for Mathematics. He shared about how he enrolled in ANHS, the struggles he faced as a Deaf learner while studying in a mainstreamed system where Deaf and Hear- ing students are together in one class, and his hope that Deaf people will also experience Lasallian education. The line from the song serves a reminder to the graduates in their journey saying magsikap lang at magtiyaga nang makamit ang tunay na tagumpay. Batch 2012 Graduates vow to share to their fellowmen the virtues they learned in ANHS. TVET Fair culminates with Mass Wedding By Pinky T. Agunod, TVET-Bread and Pastry Production and Mariam Camille A. Tambio, 5-A One in One Hundred was the theme of this year s TVET Fair, an annual gathering of TVET students that showcased the skills they have learned in the class which was held last January 16-19, 2012 and culminated through a Mass Wedding. For the first three days of the TVET Fair 2012, students from Food and Beverage Services prepared the drinks, Bread and Pastry Production Tuesday and Wednesday group baked an array of sweet bread and mini cupcakes, and Commercial Cooking students cooked their specialties and a variety of street foods that the students loved. Bookkeeping students were also present with an array of colorful trinkets, cellphone accessories, slippers, even blouses and key chains. Mass Wedding Three couples shared their vows at the National Shrine of the Divine Child presided by Rev. Fr. Jun Solomon Jr. Students from TVET courses contributed to make the mass wedding memorable by preparing the gowns, food, Newlyweds during the wedding reception are letting the doves kiss to symbolize love. invitation, and flower arrangement. Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Cabo, Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Panag, and Mr. and Mrs. Eleno Manla expressed their gratitude to the institution for giving them the chance to have a Catholic wedding. Next year, Hairdressing NCII and Commercial Cooking NCII will hold two sessions a week to comply with TESDA regulations.

CAMPUS THIRD TRIMESTER Students pay tribute to teachers It was not easy to organize and facilitate activities in school, but it was a good experience as well. These were the words of James Last dela Cruz, the President of Student Council (SC) who acted as Mr. Rheal D. Dayrit, the Principal of ANHS, during the Catholic Teachers and Support Staff Day held last January 26, Selected students experienced being administrators, teachers, interpreters for the Deaf, and support staff for a day. This is to give the members of the faculty and staff a treat for their hardwork and selfless dedication to serve the By Jacqueline B. Jacinto, 4-A students. SC organized a surprise program where ANHS students showcased their talents through acoustic singing, song interpretation with the Deaf students, and dance number. The presentations made the entire community happy. The celebration aims to pay tribute to teachers who inspire the students to value the importance of education in their lives and to continue dreaming despite the challenges in life. This also serves as a reminder that teachers do not only impart knowledge for students to be educated and learned, but also act as heroes in their lives. SC candidates to continue last year s projects By Lorela V. Talingting, 5-A Students belonging to the last batch of CAT listen attentively to the speaker s message. CAT holds last graduation March 9, 2012 marked the last Citizens Army Training (CAT) graduation of LSGH-ANHS which was held at the Promenade where 28 cadettes and 36 cadets received their CAT diploma. The program was hosted by Mr. Joseph Laviña, 5 -A Homeroom Adviser. 2 nd Lt. Philippe Mark F. Eguia paid tribute to the late Mr. Alfredo C. Mendoza in his message. An inspirational talk by SPO1 Jappklyn F. Blanca truly inspired the CAT 1 Batch Mr. Rey B. Ducay presented the graduates to the principal Mr. Rheal D. Dayrit who declared the cadets and cadettes as graduates. By Lorela V. Talingting, 5-A The family of the late Mr. Mendoza was there including his eldest son who shared a message of gratitude and inspiration to the graduates. Batch is considered the last batch of CAT 1 because Mr. Mendoza passed away last December Sir Ding was ANHS Commandant from school year up to He was also a PEHM teacher of first up to fourth year students. Sir Ding truly left us with a very remarkable legacy that was carved in the Lasallian Community. The Lasallian family will truly miss him. SC Officers for S.Y together with Mr. Rheal Dayrit Both the Kaagapay, Kapwa, Kamag-aral (KKK) and Sulong Kaayusang Kamag -aral (SKK) parties promised to continue the ongoing projects of the Student Council during the Miting de Avance in search of next year s officers held at the Promenade last February 6, Candidates for each position were given the chance to answer questions of the students and to lay their agenda. No one wished to change the rules and projects of the SC, but some mentioned about the rules being implemented about the use of cell phones during recess. There was an opposition about this policy believing that it would disturb the stu- dents focus in their studies. Some would strengthen One Heart, One Purpose program to help their needy classmates. The following students won in the SC elections held last February 7, 2012: Charmie F. Pacifico, 4A - President, Dante C. Gorembalem, 3A - Vice-President, Synara A. 3 LATHALAIN Circa 1907 at pagmamahal sa bayan Hanggang saan mo kayang ipaglaban ang iyong pagmamahal sa isang tao? Makikita din dito ang ilang kababaihan na malaki It s more fun in ANHS because Interview conducted by Pinky T. Agunod, TVET-Bread and Pastry Production and Mariam Camille A. Tambio, 5-A I was able to understand and learn the importance of having good education and being a good Christian. - Eduard Peñaflor, Commercial Cooking I was able to coach TVET s basketball team in the Sportsfest. - Robert Roy de Guzman, Computer Hardware When I was with my classmates, they helped me through financial and moral support. - Mark Joseph Samontina, Computer Hardware Servicing Everybody has freedom to share his/her talents during the Club Activity Night. - Jurieda Blancia, 5-A The bonding and friendship that I ve had with my fellow students when I joined the APEX was a thing to cherish forever. My most unforgettable moment was the day of the enrollment. I was not expecting to be accepted. I am really thankful especially to God because He gave me this chance. - Maricris Dionisio, Basic Computer The facilities are great, and the teachers are very good as well as their style of teaching. - Kirby L. Adis, Advanced Computer Students are able to develop their talents. They build their new dreams here in ANHS and are inspired everyday to reach for those dreams. - Lhady Suñega, 5-A For me, Retreat was my most memorable one. - Conchita Velasco, Bread and Pastry Production Dagdag pa ni Atty.

OPINION THIRD TRIMESTER EDITORIAL Useful or Not? In every school there is a student handbook given to students at the beginning of classes. It is also revised every year. But the question is do students read the handbook? Aside from reading it inside the classroom for a week, do they understand the true meaning of what the school wants to plant in their minds or do they just ignore it? What is the real essence of the handbook to students? These are only questions that bother us. If the students really read and understand the meaning of the rules and regulations in the handbook, there would be no more cases filed against them. Teachers already did they part on explaining the most important regulations. Students in turn have to do their responsibility to read the rest of what the handbook says. The handbook is like any other reading material for some students that upon giving it to them they won t give any effort to read it. They will just throw it inside their bag or they will just open it when the teacher said so. Administrators and teachers revise the handbook every year. This year is different because Student Council is soliciting from the students suggestions on the rules that should be changed in the handbook and the effect of that change to the students. Why are they doing this? We do not know, maybe for the students to be motivated to read the handbook today and to amend or to remove the unimportant details in the handbook. These are just opinions of the students. The handbook is very useful for the students if they will really read and understand its content. We all know that in order for us to have a peaceful and disciplined ambiance, rules and regulations should be implemented. For some good students, it is not needed. But there is a saying that when the cat is away, the mouse will come out and play. In fairness to the school administrators, they are doing their very best to comply with the needs of the students. They revise the handbook every now and then because they want us to give fair treatment. Please do not underestimate its value. May we learn it by heart because it will serve as our guide in our journey here in ANHS. LUPONG PATNUGUTAN S.Y Punong Patnugot Mariam Camille A. Tambio Pangalawang Patnugot Lorela V. Dibuho ni Adrian T. Asañon, 1-A EDITOR S OPINION Too Much or Just Right? By Mariam Camille A. Tambio Do you think having seventeen (17) organizations is practical and useful? Maybe for others yes. But if you will just analyze the situation of the organization, members, and moderators you will think that it is not. Why do I say so? There are organizations that have only five members. Some moderators handle two organizations wherein it is really hard. I am not saying this for this school year only, but I observed it quite long enough to share it to you in case you have not noticed. Why am I saying this? Because upon my observation, there are organizations that are not that visible. I may say we cannot feel their existence. Why don t we try to have fewer organizations that are only useful and important to enhance students skills and talents? This is only a suggestion which I hope could also change some students perception about organizations and for them to really choose the organization that would best help them grow as individuals and not because they are just swayed by their friends to join an organization that they do not really like.

OPINION THIRD TRIMESTER Along Our Journey By Mariam Camille A. Tambio, 5-A On our way to success we will meet all kinds of people. Some will accompany you until the end. Whether you experience ups and downs, they won t leave you. But some are just like leeches that will suck your blood and when you are not useful to them they will just leave you. People like leeches are very common in many places such as schools, office, neighbors, and friends. Maybe the statement you can t please everybody is really true. But the question is why do they have to use or backstab us? Why don t they just ignore us? Is it because they want to gather information that they can use to put us down? Why do these people exist? Is it also our fault because we let them exist in the world? Perhaps yes, because they won t exist if there are no people who would let them. But we are just humans. This is the common answer of people and it is also lame. Why? Is it because you are human you will just let them do that to you? Let me tell you, you are human that is why you have the ability to think what is good and bad. We just have to think of how we can be productive to our society. In that way, we can even feel better because we have done something noble in our lives and never wasted our time. Always be aware of who is beside you, and never let leeches suck you again because if you do, it will be the cause of your fall. If ever you fall, stand with heads high. What is important is you are able to accept the fact that you committed a mistake and you are ready to correct the mistake you have made. This makes us truly human, capable of accepting our faults for the better. Make Reading a Habit By Pinky T. Agunod, TVET-Bread and Pastry Production Travel the world, go back centuries ago, walk with the characters from a fairytale, or fight side by side with aliens and giants. It isn t magic or time machine. Reading is the answer. Reading can take you into places you could not imagine possible. But this won t work if you will just read of course. You need to use your wide imagination just like what Peter Pan said think of happy thoughts to be able to fly. It should not be interpreted literally, but still worth it. Reading is considered as one of the most popular hobbies in the world. Nowadays, even if there are new and easier ways of acquiring information, reading is still considered as its best source. There are a numerous samples of reading materials, not only hard bound or soft bound books, but also magazines, pocketbooks, and even pamphlets. Even the movies that are being shown nowadays are adaptations from the books that the people loved to read. Here are just some of those: J.K. Rowling s Harry Potter Series, Stephenie Meyer s the Twilight Saga, Dan Brown s The Da Vinci Code and Angels and Demons, Nicholas Sparks A Walk to Remember, Nights at Rodante, The Notebook, Dear John, and The Last Song, and Lucy Maud Montgomery s Anne of Green Stories. These captured the hearts and soul of the masses. Sometimes we can even relate with those stories. We thought that the stories best described the things that happened to us. We can connect with the struggles and heart breaks that the characters in each story endured. Included are the things that they did to fight to be happy and successful in the end. But it is not just the fictional characters that have inspired us. There are biographies of politicians, legends, kings and queens, celebrities and memorable people that changed the world that we live in. Their lives and stories inspired us to aim high in spite of the troubles and the barriers in this cruel world. Hakbang ng Tagumpay By Janet O. Mardido, 5-A Ano nga ba ang hakbangin patungong tagumpay? What is Life after Graduation? By Lorela V. Talingting, 5-A What is life after graduation? This is a big question that every graduating student has in his or her mind. For some who are lucky enough and are financially capable of pursuing a college degree, the only problem that they would be encountering relies on their perseverance and own motivation. But for students who are not that lucky, problems await them. Most colleges and universities offer scholarships to those students who excel in sports. How about those average students? College of St. Benilde is offering courses for the ANHS graduates who are not financially capable for them to be able to continue their Lasallian education. We in the ANHS are lucky enough to have these kinds of scholarships. The real essence of Lasallian education is to change our lives for the better. Let us not waste this chance of a lifetime. I have always dreamed of finishing my studies, but because of my choice to enter the married life at a young age I was not able to do so. Opportunity knocked at my doorstep and I was lucky enough to grab it. Now, I am about to graduate. For me, everyday is a continuous challenge, experience, and learning process. Just like everybody else, I also have that question in my mind. My family serves as my inspiration as I go along the way. I have asked some of my classmates and schoolmates about their plans after graduation. Only few are sure that they would continue their studies. Half of the students I have asked are planning to apply for a job so that they will be able to help their families, however; they also want to finish their studies. Some students do not have any plan at the moment. Some are planning to relax and stop for a while to enjoy. Teachers are encouraging students to continue their studies and have a career of their own. Unless these things happen, they cannot truly say that all the efforts, encouragement, love, guidance, devotions, and perseverance are not wasted after all. To graduating class, aim high! Reach for your dreams, be a successful Lasallian in your thoughts, words, and deeds. Hail! Hail! Hail!

Masayang Pamamaalam Ni Emil Dean F. Sayson.

LITERARY THIRD TRIMESTER Education Proud to Be By Franklin Scott Martin, 4-B By Adrian T. Asañon, 1-A Education is essential, a treasure that we should possess. Education has no boundaries when it comes to age. Everyone needs education, but to have it, you have to cross many obstacles. It is priceless when you made it. Education is like a sword, a sword no one can steal. In a life like a battlefield, You need a better sword to defend yourself, a better weapon to achieve success. My Own By Ma. Jona D. Dolenzo, 4-B Every child is a gift that you cannot forget. Nine months of carrying life, inside my womb at last. When I first saw you you made me smile and nothing can stop me looking at you with teary eyes. Every day is a blessing for me, until one day you left me. You left me alone suffering the pain, and I cannot accept the day you re gone. Now you are an angel, who guides me all the time Thank you, an angel of mine. We Filipinos are different from others; we are smart, fearless, and strong. We are only a small country, but we are great and as big as infantry. Some are ignoring us. When there is trouble, they are blaming us. They do not know who are true Filipinos. They will never regret, once they know who we really are. They can see it in our hearts and in what we do. Be proud because you are a true Filipino! Haiku on the Go! Again Butterfly The typhoon is here Tulips A butterfly flies Broken Dreams The bird s nest will disappear Laying on the fields One flower to another It started to rain It s our dilemma. Such beauty of purple scent, Life s starting again. All my dreams were swept away My pathway vanished. Like rare diamonds. Eugene B. Sauquillo, 3-B Saynara A. Villa, 3-B RJ A. Fernando 3-A Sunshine V. Sanitllan 3-A Live. Laugh. Love. By Pinky T. Agunod, TVET-Bread and Pastry Production Are you afraid of the things that happened around you? Have you ever thought of the possibilities that one day you will die too? When I was a kid I often asked my mother what it feels like to face death. Will it hurt? Will I suffer until my last breath? Will it be fast like thunder? Cartoon by Artus Maggio M. Aguilar, 2-A But she told me nobody knows how. Only those who experienced a near death event in their lives can say. Way back when I was a kid dying was the scariest thing for me, although I believe in heaven. I always ask myself this, will I be able to finish all the things that I want to do and all the tasks I need to do before the end of my life? Out of my childish curiosity, I asked some of the people I know a tough question that most of the time I myself have the hardest time figuring out the answer. What will you do if today is the last 24 hours of your life? As for me I will invite everyone that I love, my worst enemies, and my favorite best friend. I will make up for the lost times. I will apologize for the things that I have done to them. I will thank them for being there for me through the years. I will tell them how much I love them, and that I will miss them. When my time comes I hope that I will be old and gray but still happy and on the positive side of life, successful and content with the life that I have had without regrets. I will be married and surrounded by my children and their children. Life is too short and too fragile to be wasted. We have to live life to the fullest and we should start now, not tomorrow or the next day. We have to consider every hour, every minute, and every second of it because we never know when will be the end of it. It would not knock on our doors. It will come like a thief in the night. And today think about the little things that make you happy. Cherish the love that you have. Smile and relax. Think about the beauty of the world. Be thankful for today may be the last.

FEATURES THIRD TRIMESTER LSGH Centennial Concert showcases talents By Jacqueline B. Jacinto, 4-A See things with the eyes of faith. These were the words of Br. Felipe C. Belleza Jr. FSC as he delivered his message during the last show of the LSGH Centennial Concert held last February 10, 2012 at St. Benilde Gymnasium with the parents, visitors and friends of LSGH. Talented students from the grade school, high school, and night school participated in the said concert through singing, dancing, and acting. ANHS students presented an excerpt of Mang Lasal, a play that truly manifested the mission of St. La Salle, education for all. Young people from slum areas were given chance to study despite their poverty because of ANHS which offers quality Catholic education to Hearing and Deaf students 18 years old and above. As Br. Felipe put it, Talentong Lasalyano alay sa sentenaryo alay kay San Juan Bautista de La Salle. The cast of Bon-Bon Likes 100 showing the result of Brothers fight for education. ANHS likes Bon-Bon By Jacqueliine B. Jacinto, 4-A Jay John Morallos as St. La Salle giving hope to the poor students through education. As part of the Centennial Celebration, the Grade School Department staged to ANHS its musical play entitled Bon Bon Likes 100 held last January 9, 2012 at the Brother Donato Center. The musicale was a lesson of history which traces the beginning of the work of the Christian Brothers in religious education. It highlights one of the major turning points in the centenary presence of the Brothers in the Philippines. Bon-Bon is a typical 8 year old boy who would rather play than to study. It is story of how the Brothers fought for freedom of education during World War II and continued what St. La Salle started. They surrendered their lives for a greater cause. Mr. Joseph Angelo Santos wrote the story, Mr. Genaro Edilo and Mr. Miguel Ordonez composed the songs and arranged the music, and Miss Neomili S. Bondoc served as the play s director. CARTOON TIME! Memories shared will never be forgotten. Live Jesus in our hearts. FOREVER! Batch 2012
