3 GROUP SWIM LESSONS Swimmers learn skills based on their age and ability, improve on swimming skills, learn water safety, build relationships with others, and have fun. Our sessions includes five components personal growth, personal safety, rescue skills, stroke development, and fun and games. These five components build confidence in each individual swimmer, inside the water and out. Our daughter takes swim lessons and we watch her confidence and skill grow every class. These things are the personal impact the Y has had on our lives. - Anonymous Member, SEER Survey For all of our aquatic program policies (including refunds and cancellations), please visit our website. 3

7 PARENT & CHILD SWIM STARTERS 6 36 MONTHS Jump into swimming lessons together! These lessons will help your infant feel comfortable in the water while setting the foundation for them to learn how to swim. Our parent and child program has students starting as early as six months old. Parents are given guidance on how to develop their children s abilities and how to protect their children from harm in and around the water. These group lessons are meant as a fun introduction to the water before formal swim lessons. Swim diapers and swimsuits are required for all children. Parents are required to wear swimsuits. STAGE A: WATER DISCOVERY 6 12 Months This is an introduction to the aquatic environment for parents and their infants. Parents are encouraged to develop appropriate expectations for their children s performance in the water. Parents will learn basic aquatic safety with their children that helps them bond. We introduce basic skills and have fun playing with toys and floatation devices. STAGE B: WATER EXPLORATION months Children will have more independent exploration of the aquatic environment in this level with help from their parents. The parents again review and learn additional information about aquatic safety. The program provides opportunities for parent/child teams to socialize with each other. Children start moving more independently through the water under their parent s guidance. Instructors will begin to prepare the children to work directly with an instructor on their own. PARENT & CHILD LESSON SCHEDULES Winter / Spring Schedule Saturday Sunday 9:00 9:30 am 9:35-10:05 am 9:30 10:00 am Refer to pages 5 6 for full Parent & Child Lessons schedule & fees For all of our aquatic program policies (including refunds and cancellations), please visit our website. 7
8 FIRST MATES SWIM CLUB AGES 6 17 FIRST MATES SWIM CLUB The goal of Central YMCA s First Mates Swim Club is to nurture the potential of every swimmer to achieve their personal best. We encourage genuine athleticism by competing with humility and supporting fellow teammates. WHAT TO EXPECT The First Mates Swim Club is a noncompetitive program for kids ages 6-17 who have completed at least the Stage 5 level of our swimming classes. This swim club is perfect for youth who want to progress from YMCA swim lessons, but are not yet ready for the large-team environment. 12 YOUR SAFETY IS OUR PRIORITY TEACH THEM EARLY Teaching kids to swim early helps educate them about being safe around water and will instill a lifelong skill. ACTIVE SUPERVISION Help prevent water emergencies by actively supervising youth in and around water. At Central YMCA, all children must have a swim wrist band that designates their swim level. WEAR SUNSCREEN Keep your skin safe by applying sunscreen of SPF 30 or higher when you go outside to swim or play. Prevent sunstroke by wearing hats and sunglasses. BEACH SAFETY Be cautious when going to unfamiliar beaches. Stay safe by supervising kids and staying together. Always swim where there is a lifeguard present. COAST GUARD LIFE JACKETS approved floatation devices will keep you safe if you are not a strong swimmer. STAY HYDRATED Drink plenty of water to keep yourself hydrated while participating in all outdoor activities, especially on hot days. GET CERTIFIED Interested in becoming a lifeguard? Come get certified with the Y! Contact: Christian Davis james.davis@ymcasv.org WALK Instruct children to walk anytime they re on a pool deck you don t want to slip and fall. Be safe by never pushing others or jumping on others in and around the pool.
