4 Foreword The road to success for corporate businesses might be compared to winning the Tour de France. It can be an up hill challenge and your company s strategies will be tested along the way. To continue winning, new materials and innovative products must be introduced and your people must perform to the highest standard. 6 How we see the world Future Consciousness Our concept Future Consciousness describes the way companies need to start the transition towards integrated and sustainable ways of thinking. We believe the way of developing business plans and the parameters of how business success is measured is changing. This process has already started but we believe it will soon accelerate. Through research and collaboration with our partners, MPI collect the newest information about how business will be conducted in the future. We believe it is essential for all future winners to proactively face these forthcoming and important challenges. Future Consciousness will be presented at the World Resources Forum, Davos, Switzerland, in October Acceptance by the World Resources Forum confirms that our way of thinking is the future way. The outcomes associated with this concept will impact greatly in areas like, for example, future product demands in the scope of a circular economy, the starting points for procurement and innovation, new materials, technologies as well as skilled employees. Future management will be about personal skills and the capability to make decisions and take actions based on reliable information. 6

7 Management Future management is about personal skills, but it is also about the will and the capability to take decisions and actions, which move people and organisations into the future. Currently, management must have knowledge about production, business strategies and how to develop employees but it also needs to prepare for future decisions. Management must accept the need for a highly qualified work force, be aware of the market conditions and how things are changing more rapidly in a world becoming smaller and smaller - day by day. Management will be a lifestyle more than a job and those in management must always be prepared and ready to react and adjust to future trends, tendencies and challenges in a complex, global economy. 8 How we see the world Innovation Future innovation is about involving your supply chain. Not all companies find it easy to start the transition from the Industrial era s profit thinking to An integrated sustainable model. This transition requires certain skills within the organisations and can put procurement departments under pressure. Sourcing materials can be problematic, particularly where raw materials are in short supply and financial budgets are tight. It can be a time consuming process, difficult to integrate into daily business and may result in customer problems if not addressed. R&D (Research & Development) is a traditional way of maintaining a step-by-step development of existing products but can be a dangerous strategy, as new market players may deliver newly proven and certified sustainable products fulfilling the demands of a circular economy. Future innovation will be the domain of proactive companies ready to deliver the right products and solutions as soon as the demand is there. Speed and flexibility will be the key to these constantly shifting markets. 8

9 Future organisation A cultural shift is materialising within organisations. To be successful and thrive in this new eco-order organisations will need to be open, creative, integrated and interactive. A human cultural shift is materialising within organisations In order to maintain high standards, a need for continuous personal and professional development will exist and will add further pressure to companies. Finding the right employees can be difficult in certain sectors and employees will choose the companies offering the best overall conditions. To meet the challenges of a changing workforce (for example, multi cultural employees, home offices, global working teams), companies will be under pressure to design future working spaces and support systems differently. Management and Human Resources (HR) functions will have to motivate employees in a different way than today but still be able to meet all the challenges mentioned. Otherwise, securing the best employees without high ethical beliefs, good working conditions and strong strategic goals with be difficult. 9

18 Our methods Using the wide range of competences available to us, we start any assignment with the aim of getting to know what our clients need. If we are to make a difference, it is important that we get to know each other. After an initial meeting we produce a detailed proposal outlining what you can expect from us. Throughout the process, we ensure that our client or clients are aware of what we are doing, the purpose of our activities and the goals we aim to achieve. Our concepts are made to fulfil the ISO standards relating to working methods processes and procedures, although we are not strictly adhering to the concepts. They are used as a guidance to ensure we supply all the content expected from us on identification of the needs we are required to fulfil. We use a phased approach, addressing key milestones one by one. At each key milestone, we re-assess the situation and adjust the process, if necessary, before we start the next phase. Efficiency and measurability always underpin our progress. When working on an assignment, we may draw on elements from a range of concepts in order to cover the challenges we encounter.
