2 St. Anne Catholic Elementary School SCHOOL MASSES: Friday, May 8 at 9:05 a.m. In honour of Catholic Education Week Were not our hearts burning within us while He was talking to us on the road? Luke 24:32 Good News from the PVNCCDSB Office of Faith Development In the month of May, the Liturgical Season of the Church is Easter and the Liturgical Colour is white until Pentecost Sunday. After the solemnity of Pentecost, the Church moves into Ordinary Time with the Liturgical Colour of green until next Advent. Every school in the Peterborough Victoria Northumberland and Clarington Catholic District School Board will be learning, praying and talking about the Fruit of the Holy Spirit called Gentleness. In the month of May as we contemplate gentleness, we keep the example and model of Mary, our Heavenly Mother in our hearts, as she exemplifies in her life. In our schools, homes and parishes, let us teach and model gentleness so that our students will become active examples of living the fruits of the Holy Spirit. Living Rosary event set for May 14, 2015 We will be praying the Joyful Mysteries and will be lead by our Grade 7 Confirmation candidates and classmates along with the volunteers from the Rosary Apostolate. This event will be in the church starting at Dismissal Time Notes: Thank you to all patrons who obey the barriers, parking and no parking sections and help us with the timely dismissal of our busses in a safe and timely fashion. All are reminded that the school parking lot is a one way system with entry on Barnardo Street and exit on Bellevue Street. At dismissal time if you enter the parking lot after 3:00 p.m. This may mean you cannot depart the parking lot until after the busses leave between 3:25 & 3:30 The City has also informed the school that people are parking too close to the intersection and the cross walk outside of the school and church driveway. Please obey the no parking and no stopping signs. The Society of St. Vincent de Paul Vinnies is looking for donations of gently used clothing. Please feel free to drop off items in the bin in the main foyer. Thank you!!

6 St. Anne Catholic Elementary School. Sunday, May 17, 2015 Theme: Communicating the Family: A Privileged Placed of Encounter with the Gift of Love. It is in the context of the family that we first learn how to communicate. The family is where we learn to live with others despite our differences. The diversity of the family is the context where we learn communication. We learn about bond. It was in our families that the majority of us learned the religious dimension of communication. More than anywhere else, the family is where we daily experience our own limits and those of others, the problems great and small entailed in living peacefully with others. We should not be fearful of imperfections, weakness or even conflict, but rather learn how to deal with them constructively. Forgiveness is itself a process of communication. When contrition is expressed and accepted, it becomes possible to restore and rebuild the communication which broke down. In a world where people often curse, use foul language, speak badly of others, sow discord and poison our human environment by gossip, the family can teach us to understand communication as a blessing. In situations apparently dominated by hatred and violence, where families are separated by stone walls or the no less impenetrable walls of prejudice and resentment, where there seem to be good reasons for saying enough is enough, it is only by blessing rather than cursing, by visiting rather than repelling, and by accepting rather than fighting, that we can break the spiral of evil, show that goodness is always possible, and educate our children to fellowship. The media can be a hindrance if they become a way to avoid listening to others, to evade physical contact, to fill up every moment of silence and rest, so that we forget that silence is an integral element of communication; in its absence, words rich in content cannot exist. The great challenge facing us today is to learn once again how to talk to one another, not simply how to generate and consume information. The latter is a tendency which our important and influential modern communications media can encourage. Information is important, but it is not enough. All too often things get simplified, different positions and viewpoints are pitted against one another, and people are invited to take sides, rather than to see things as a whole. By growing daily in our awareness of the vital importance of encountering others, these new possibilities, we will employ technology wisely, rather than letting ourselves be dominated by it. Here too, parents are the primary educators, but they cannot be left to their own devices. [PVNC INVITATION Ask the school about and explore Samaritans on the Digital Road a resource to help students to use the social media responsibly. Go through this resource and discuss it with your child(ren).] FAMILY MESSAGES FROM THE 49 th WORLD COMMUNICATIONS DAY Model hopeful and positive communication with and among each other. Seek to address conflicts constructively and work toward forgiveness. Ask open-ended questions to open up topics and to create room for understanding among family members. Always remember and speak about relationship, love, commitment and loyalty in the family. Take time to reflect; be silent and nurture a prayerful spirit trusting in God s graces for the family. Teach your children to apply these same messages to the social media.

7 May 2015 Catholic School Council The CSC is an active group of parents who meet on a regular basis to share concerns and ideas concerning student life and educational issues facing our community today. The Next CATHOLIC SCHOOL COUNCIL MEETING is set for: May 11, 2015 CLASS TRIPS Many Class Excursions are upon us. The class trip is always an exciting time for students. Some special funding has allowed some of our environmentally related trips to be subsidized for some classes. Other excursions have had the necessary collection of funds to secure transportation and to pay for the special events, amenities and access to the location we are visiting. We want to be sensitive to those who may be struggling to pay for these trips and any of the added extra-curricular events that require funds to be sent in. If you need to discuss a payment plan or wish to discuss the need for support you are invited to contact Mr. Collins the principal. All are encouraged to use the new envelopes for sending in funds to school. Let s get Gardening! St. Anne Catholic Elementary School has secured funding from the Healthy Schools Initiative through the Peterborough County and City Health Unit to support our school garden. We have a rich past of gardening and green thumb work at our school well before the new addition to the school was built. We are looking forward to bringing the gardens back and having it grow even bigger and better.

8 Congrats St. Anne's Boys Basketball Team for consecutive board wide victories!!! We are certainly going to miss the Gr 8 boys moving onto high school next year - they are a special bunch!!! A special shout out to coaches, Andrew Bolton and Tessa D Souza for another successful season Pedal for Hope in Peterborough 2015 On Saturday May 16th the Pedal For Hope Team, represented by the Peterborough Police, O.P.P and R.C.M.P will be holding a community Cops For Cancer event at the Peterborough Municipal Airport where they hope to break the Guinness World Record for the most head shaves done simultaneously. The current record is 210 and held in the United States, we would like to break the record and bring it to Peterborough. In order to do that we need as many volunteers to sign up to shave their head for the cause. This means members, friends, and family. Visit for more information on Pedal For Hope.
