Our School is a one-form entry (two form entry currently in Y2/Y3) with approximately 274 pupils aged 3-11and a nursery provision. We offer excellent facilities, well equipped classrooms and well maintained outdoor play areas. Staff work in year or duo teams to collaboratively plan and deliver high quality lessons. All teachers are supported by teaching assistants. We believe that support staff play a critical role in securing outstanding progress in pupils learning. Visits to the school are encouraged. 5 About our School Manorfield opened on the 6th September 2004, following the amalgamation of two long-established local schools. The school is sited in a large residential area on the west side of Horley. Children can stay with us from the half-term after they are 3 years old, until they are 11. We are the only school in Horley to be able to offer 8 years of continuous schooling. Thanks to very generous funding from Surrey County Council, the whole school has been extensively rebuilt and modernised. There is a purpose-built early years unit for our 3 to 5 year olds, a new library and study area, interactive whiteboards throughout the school and beautiful and extensive grounds which have been developed to promote outdoor learning. Pupils behave well and get on well with one another. The school is happy, and is liked by pupils, parents, carers and staff alike. It promotes pupils spiritual, moral, social and cultural development well. Ofsted 2013 At Manorfield, all of the staff take a great pride in working in a fully inclusive school, where all children, irrespective of ability, are welcomed. Manorfield is built with a strong team and an ethos that is built on Empathy, Acceptance, Integrity, Responsibility and Courage. The school promotes pupils spiritual, moral, social and cultural development well, and as a result pupils from a wide range of backgrounds and heritages get on very well together. 6 About our School Children make good progress throughout the school, both in the basic skills of reading, writing and mathematics but also in all of the equally important foundation subjects. The children are also well cared for and every effort is made to help them feel safe and secure. Parents and carers described the school as a family, reflecting its strong community ethos. Pupils are polite and respectful towards visitors and considerate towards one another. Ofsted 2013 The school holds the National Healthy Schools Award. One of the ways we support this is by running our Healthy Tuck shop every break time. We also hold a Green Flag Eco-Schools award, everyone can see our commitment to the environment with our huge wind-turbine, and packed recycling hut. Teachers manage pupils behaviour well, and there are positive attitudes to learning in the classroom. Ofsted 2013 Governors play an active part in the life of the school and know its strengths and areas for development. They are well informed about how well the school performs in comparison to other schools. Ofsted 2013 Leadership and managers have created a happy and harmonious school, which is supported by pupils, parents, carers and staff, and which provides equality of opportunity to all. 8 Job Description JOB TITLE: Class Teacher REPORTS TO: Headteacher JOB PURPOSE: To take responsibility for teaching a class in order to promote effective teaching and learning for the pupils within the framework provided by the DfE, the Local Authority and the Governing Body, and with regard to all statutory requirements. This job description is to be performed in accordance with the provisions of the School Teachers Pay and Conditions Document and within the range of duties set out in that document so far as relevant to the postholder s title and salary grade. The post is otherwise subject to the Conditions of Service for School Teachers in England and Wales (the Burgundy Book ) and to locally agreed conditions of employment to the extent that they are incorporated in the postholder s individual contract of employment. MAIN DUTIES: To establish a purposeful learning environment in which diversity is valued, where pupils feel secure and confident, and where opportunities to maximise teaching and learning are promoted. To plan and teach clearly structured lessons and sequences of work, which interest and motivate pupils and in which: pupils learning needs and abilities are taken into account learning objectives are made clear to pupils. interactive teaching methods and collaborative group work are employed active and independent learning is promoted that enables pupils to think for themselves and to plan and manage their own learning. To set high expectations and establish a clear framework for classroom discipline and strategies for recognising, encouraging and rewarding good behaviour in order to anticipate and manage pupils behaviour appropriately, and to promote self-control and independence. 9 Job Description To set challenging teaching and learning objectives which are relevant to and based on your knowledge of pupils and take account of: their learning needs and abilities evidence of their past and current achievement, the expected standards for pupils of the relevant age range, and the range and content of work relevant to that phase. To make appropriate use of a range of monitoring and assessment strategies to evaluate pupils progress towards planned learning objectives, and to use this information to inform your own planning and teaching. To monitor and assess as you teach, giving immediate and constructive feedback, which supports pupils as they learn, requiring pupils to reflect on, evaluate and improve their own performance. To use ICT effectively in your teaching. OTHER PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS: To demonstrate commitment to professional development by evaluating your own practice, and learning from the effective practice of others, and calling on the support and guidance of colleagues. To have a working knowledge of teachers professional duties and legal liabilities. To operate at all times within the stated policies and practices of the school. To establish effective working relationships, and set a good example through personal and professional conduct. To liaise effectively with parents and governors. Awareness of equality issues, including maximising opportunities to explore and promote equality and raise awareness of diversity through teaching and learning.
