3 Download Video to Your Computer: 1. Open MovieMaker (Start, All Programs, Accessories, Windows Movie Maker). 2. In the Task Pane, under Capture Video, click Capture from Video Device. 3. Enter a name for the captured video. Then choose a place to save the captured video. Click Next. 4. When the Video Settings dialog box appears, select the video setting you want to use for capturing video and audio. Click Next. Created by Angela Allen 3

4 5. At the Capture Method Dialog box, select how you want to capture the video. Click Next. 6. To begin capturing video, click Start Capture. The tape will play automatically and capture will begin. 7. When the tape reaches a point where you want to stop capturing, click Stop Capture. 8. Repeat these steps for each part of the video that you want to capture. 9. When you have finished capturing, click Finish to close the Video Capture dialog box. Created by Angela Allen 4

5 10. The captured video will be imported into a new collection with the same name as the specified video file. Import from Flip Video Camera 1. In the Task pane, click Import Video. 2. When the dialog box appears, navigate to the Flip video camera on My Computer. 3. Open the DCIM folder. 4. Open the 100Video folder. 5. Click on the video clip you want to import. 6. Click the Import button. 7. Import Still Images 1. In the Task pane, click on Import Pictures. 2. When the dialog box appears, navigate out to where your images are. 3. Click on the image(s) you want to import. 4. Click the Import button. Created by Angela Allen 5

6 5. The image(s) are added to the Collections window. Build a Storyboard 1. After you have imported video and images to your computer, you ll see your clips in the Collections Window. 2. Double click on each clip to see how it looks in the Preview Window. 3. Click and drag the clips or images you want to use to the Storyboard in the order you want them to appear in your final movie. 4. To rearrange the clips on the storyboard, just drag and drop them to a different location. Edit Clips 1. In the Timeline view, click on the clip you want to trim. 2. Play the clip. Stop at the point where you want to trim the clip. 3. Go to Clip on the menubar and select Set Start Trim Point. 4. Drag the scrubber until you reach the desired end point of your clip. 5. Go to Clip on the menubar and select Set End Trim Point. Created by Angela Allen 6

7 Add Audio 1. In the Taskpane, click on Import Audio or Music. 2. Navigate to the music track you d like to add to your movie. 3. Click on Import. 4. The music track will appear in your Collection pane. 5. Click on the Show Timeline button in the Storyboard section of your screen. 6. Drag the music track to the Audio/Music level of the Timeline. 8 Add Transitions 1. In the Edit Movie section of the Task pane, click View Video Transitions. A selection of transitions will appear. 2. Double click the transitions to see how they look in the preview window. 3. Once you have decided which transitions to include in your movie drag them down to the Storyboard and place them in the squares between the video clips. Add Titles and Credits 1. In the Task pane, click Make Titles or Credits. 2. On the next screen, click the appropriate link that corresponds to the place where you want to add the title or credits to your movie. 9 3. Enter the text you want to appear in your title or credits. 4. Click the Change the Title Animation, and then select a title animation from the list. You can preview them by clicking on them. 5. Click Change the Text and Font Color, and then select the font you like, as well as the color of the text and background. Created by Angela Allen 9

10 6. You can also change the transparency, font size, and position of the title. 7. Click Done, and your title or credit will be added to your storyboard. Add Effects 1. In the Task pane, click View Video Effects. A selection of video effects will appear. 2. Double click the effects to see how they look in the preview window. 3. Once you have decided which effect to include in your movie, drag it down to the Storyboard and place it on top of the star in the lower left hand corner of the clip. 4. When you play the clip, the effect will be added. Saving Your Movie You can save your movie in several different formats on your computer, as a file to send in an , on a CD, or back to video tape. Save to your Computer 1. Click Save to My Computer in the Task pane. 2. Enter a name for your movie. Created by Angela Allen 10

11 3. Choose a place to save your movie. You re my Videos folder will be the default location. 4. Click Next. 5. Select the settings for your movie. Windows Movie Maker will recommend a setting, but you can choose a different setting if you like. 6. Click Next. 7. Your movie will be saved. 8. Click the check-box in the Wizard if you want your movie to play when you click Finish. 9. Click Finish. Save Your Movie to a CD 1. Once your movie is created, insert a blank CD in your computer and click Save to CD in the Task pane. 2. Enter a name for your movie and a name for your CD. (These can be the same, but the CD is limited to 16 characters.) 3. Click Next. 4. On the Movie Setting page, leave the setting at Best Quality for Recordable CF. 5. Click Next. 6. Windows Movie Maker will create your movie. 7. When finished, your CD will eject from your computer. Click Finish. Send Your Movie in an 1. Once your movie is created, click Send in in the task pane. 2. Windows Movie Maker will save your movie, automatically selecting a setting that will keep the file size small enough to be accepted by most systems. 3. After the movie is saved, you can play your movie or save it to your hard drive before sending it in an . Created by Angela Allen 11

12 Send Back to Video Tape 1. Once your movie is created, click Send to DV Camera in the Task pane. 2. Cue your tape to where you want to record your new movie. 3. Click Next to begin recording. 4. The movie you created will dump back to the video tape. Created by Angela Allen 12
