1 THE STARCHILD SUMMER CAMP DAY Below, please find our 2016 summer schedule. We begin each day serving a light breakfast (bagels, yogurt, fruit, croissant, hard boiled egg, etc.) from 8AM to 9AM. At 9AM, students in grades K 3 will have an arts and crafts project such as creating model cars and airplanes, or making clothes for barbies from around the world, creating an indoor "drive in", etc.students in grades 4 7 will work on developing their 3d animation project, which will produce a small 3d animation movie at summer's end. From 11AM to 11:45AM students will have structured outdoor play at nearby PS101 Playground. Each week will hold a different sport including kickball, volleyball, baseball, soccer, basketball, etc. We use this time for structured play. At Noon, campers will board the private bus (school bus) to Christopher Morley Park where we will have lunch and spend the rest of the day swimming and playing at the various park activities. At approximately 4PM we board the bus to return to camp. Campers will have snack and read or complete homework packages for 30 to 45 minutes. Counselors will then escort campers to PS 101 Playground for free time/play. On days when there is a field trip, we leave the facility at 9AM and return around 5PM. On days when there is no field trip or swimming, our mornings are the same as swim days; however our afternoons can include visits for a variety of indoor activities including puppet show, dancing, fencing, sculpting, etc. (a weekly schedule will alert parents as to exactly what the day entails). STARCHILD MEALS Students are responsible for their own lunch three days a week. On field trip days StarChild will provide the lunch which will include a sandwich, a fruit, cookies and chips. The other day we provide lunch is the day when there is no field trip and on that day we will serve pizza. If your child does not eat meat, we will accommodate their vegetarian needs. We will provide an afternoon snack which is usually cheese, crackers, chips, fruit, etc. We are a NUT FREE camp. Please do not send your child with nut products. STARCHILD CAMPER/COUNSELOR RATIO Our camper/counselor ratio depends on the age group and activity. When we swim our ratio for all groups is 4:1; for indoor activities is 8:1; and on trips for groups in grades K 1 the ratio is 4:1 and for all others the ratio is 6:1. We use the buddy system when traveling. Counselors are also required to take attendance by NAME and not simply by counting students. Additionally, campers are required to wear the StarChild camp t shirt during all trips. Each t shirt has the camp's address as well as my cell phone number imprinted on the back.
