3 Integration Overview This document describes the integration between TIBCO Software, Inc. s TIBCO Adapter for Siebel 7 and Siebel 7. The reader is assumed to be familiar with both products. 4 Integration Overview Business Case TIBCO Adapter for Siebel 7 provides a key component for Total Business Integration by allowing customers to integrate Siebel 7 data, applications, and workflow processes with packaged applications as well as with technologies and industry standards including: HTTP, SOAP, XML, EDI, EJB, JMS, JDBC, LDAP, CICS, MQSeries, and most leading packaged solutions. Together, Siebel Systems and TIBCO Software enable customers to achieve real-time processes, improved corporate performance, and enhanced business visibility. As changes occur in other ERP or legacy applications, for example, relevant information can immediately update the Siebel application, giving Customer Service Representatives a real-time view into the entire enterprise. Siebel applications can also easily access external applications and data as required, for example, executing a mainframe CICS transaction to retrieve information for use in Siebel. Similarly, new information in Siebel 7 can automatically be disseminated wherever it is needed, including updating other applications or databases, notifying appropriate personnel via Web or , or executing a transaction with a trading partner. External applications can also request Siebel data or execute a Siebel workflow process to enable enterprise-wide business process integration. By eliminating barriers to communication and interaction, Total Business Integration with TIBCO and Siebel solutions allows companies to maximize their investments in staff, partnerships, and technologies, streamline their operations, and improve their ability to sense and respond to change and opportunity. A common configuration GUI allows customers to easily configure this and other adapters. In addition to configuring runtime parameters for the adapter, it is possible to customize the data included in a business event. TIBCO Adapter for Siebel 7 supports Siebel Web client. When importing or extracting data, the adapter uses the CORBA or COM Object Interface at the business object layer, leveraging Siebel business and validation rules. The adapter fully exploits the Siebel 7 EAI architecture, providing a custom Siebel Business Service and facilitating integration with Siebel Business Integration Manager constructs including Virtual Business Components and Integration Objects. Siebel data, applications, and workflow processes can all easily be integrated with external systems using TIBCO Adapter for Siebel 7. Publishing A Siebel user interface event, application business logic, or Siebel Workflow process can notify the adapter via TIBCO s custom Siebel Business Service whenever a business event should be published. The adapter packages the relevant data into a self-describing message that can be easily interpreted by other applications, and publishes the information using TIBCO Rendezvous as its messaging transport. 6 Integration Overview Once the adapter publishes the information, any TIBCO-enabled database, or application interested in the information will automatically receive it. Use of TIBCO Rendezvous provides the following advantages: Information is published in an efficient "one-to-many" fashion, eliminating the need for many-to-one ad hoc requests and their associated network overhead Messages are automatically delivered to interested users, without requiring any knowledge of their network addresses or protocols Event-driven information dissemination Guaranteed delivery of business information Request-Response Invocation The adapter can also perform a Request Response Invocation to retrieve data from external applications and import it into Siebel. The Siebel system sends the request to the adapter via TIBCO's custom business service. The adapter converts the information to a TIBCO Rendezvous message and sends it to an external system e.g. an Oracle database or mainframe application. When the adapter receives the information back from the external system, the adapter converts it to the Siebel data format and imports it through Siebel Object Interface at the business object layer. The information can be used in any number of ways, including being converted into Siebel Integration Objects or Siebel Virtual Business Components, provided as input to the next step in a Siebel Workflow process step, displayed, or used in application business logic. Subscribing The Subscriber subscribes to or listens for messages published by other applications, which are of interest to the Siebel application. On receiving the messages, it validates the data, converts it to the Siebel data format, and invokes a Siebel Workflow process or updates the Siebel database using the CORBA or COM Siebel Object interface, again preserving Siebel business rules. Request-Response Service The adapter can also provide a Request Response Service, and service requests from external applications to invoke a Siebel workflow process, or handle requests for information to be imported into Siebel or extracted from Siebel. Flexible Deployment Although the adapter components can all reside on the same machine as the Siebel Server, customers may choose to run them on a different machine(s). The publishing agent component must run on a Siebel Web client or Siebel Server machine on Windows Siebel 7 and TIBCO Adapter for Siebel 4.1 4

7 Integration Overview Validation Summary The adapter provides optimal performance and throughput through support for multithreading and the ability to run multiple copies of the adapter in a load-balanced manner. The latter feature also provides implicit fault tolerance, because processing continues across the remaining adapter instances even if one should fail. Validation Testing Environment The adapter was tested using the minimum hardware requirements listed later in this document. Integrated Solution Support This section provides an overview of the features that were tested and validated by Siebel Systems as part of the Siebel 7 validation process. 8 Installation and Deployment TIBCO Adapter for Siebel 7 version 4.1 is easy to install and configure. A graphical Windows Install Anywhere program is provided for installing the adapter, and an integrated graphical administration tool is available for customizing the adapter. Siebel customization is performed using standard Siebel Tools. Comprehensive documentation guides the administrator through the implementation. System Requirements Hardware Requirements Installation of TIBCO Adapter for Siebel 7, will require the following configuration: Minimum 256 Mbytes RAM Hard disk drive with at least 300MB of available, uncompressed space Software Requirements Siebel Application Siebel 7 Siebel ecommunications 7 Partner Application TIBCO Adapter for Siebel 7 version 4.1 Platform Availability Windows NT, Windows 2000, Solaris 2.8 Other Products Visibroker 4.0 (for Solaris 2.8 only) Skill Requirements End-users require no special knowledge or skills. 9 Installation and Deployment Installation Process Siebel administrators should be familiar with Siebel 7 customization using Siebel 7 Tools or Siebel 7 workflow policy implementation. The integration specialist should also be familiar with TIBCO integration products. The adapter is a generally available (GA) product distributed on CD-ROM. The CD- ROM provides a graphical Windows Install Anywhere program that allows you to install the adapter software and complete product documentation. This process is fully described in the adapter manuals. Further Customization and Configuration The product documentation provides detailed description of how to configure the adapter. The adapter has a highly flexible, configurable architecture, and makes the process easy through use of a common configuration GUI. Intuitive menus and default templates provide for easy, flexible configuration of the adapter. The GUI also allows you to easily browse the Siebel Repository and interactively define the data to be included in a business event. A few business events commonly implemented for the Siebel adapter include: NewOrder, UpdateAccount, UpdateContact, or GetMainframeCustomerDetails. However these are just a few examples; there is no limit to the business events that you can define to meet your unique business requirements. If you will be sending information out from the Siebel application, you should also invoke the adapter Siebel Business Service by either customizing the Siebel client through Siebel Tools or configuring a Siebel workflow policy. The product documentation describes this process. This step is not required if the Siebel adapter is only receiving data or requests from other systems. Siebel 7 and TIBCO Adapter for Siebel 4.1 7

11 Installation and Deployment Ongoing Administration Ongoing administration for TIBCO Adapter for Siebel 7 is simplified because the adapter fully supports TIBCO Hawk. TIBCO Hawk is a TIBCO ActiveEnterprise product that enables monitoring and management of distributed applications and systems throughout the enterprise, including the adapter and TIBCO Rendezvous. TIBCO Hawk can be configured to monitor these components and take action when predefined conditions occur, from restarting the adapter to sending an or pager message to alert an administrator of the problem.
