3 Introduction Congratulations on the purchase of your Birko machine. Please take time to carefully read through this manual to ensure the machine is operated and maintained properly to ensure the best, possible performance from the product for many years. Birko will not accept liability for the following if: The instructions in this manual have not been followed correctly. Non-authorized personnel have tampered with the machine. Non-original spare parts are used. The machine has not been handled and cleaned correctly. There is any use damage to the unit. Packaging Birko prides itself on quality and service, ensuring that at the time of packing, all products are supplied fully functional and free of damage. Provided in this package are the following: Bain Marie Divider Bar Manual Should you find any damage as a result of freight, please contact your Birko dealer immediately. Installation Remove the Bain Marie from the packaging, be certain all protective plastics and residues are thoroughly cleaned from its surface. Locate the Bain Marie on a firm, level surface clear from all combustible materials. Ensure the appliance is turned off at the thermostat dial (item 8). Supply the appropriate power (See specifications on page 5). Plug in and turn the power on at the wall plug. Page 3 of Birko Bain Marie - April 2012 v1.01

4 Operation Fill the warmer with water to the indicated level. Allow 40min heat up time from cold. For a quicker heat up time fill with hot or warm water. Do not overfill, under no circumstances should the food pans float. If this occurs remove excess water. It is recommended to use fresh clean water each use. Simply turn the temperature dial (item 8) clockwise to the desired setting. The green light will glow to indicate the unit is on. To turn off simply turn the temperature dial anticlockwise to the 0 setting. It is recommended that the thermostat be set to the maximum heat being 90 degrees (full turn clockwise) for pre-heating the warmer. An operating setting of C should be sufficient once pre-heated. NOTE: Do not lift, move or carry the warmer when on, or containing food or water. TO MAINTAIN CONSTANT TEMPERATURES, TOP UP THE WATER LEVELS WITH HOT WATER. Thermal Cut-Out Reset: This appliance is fitted with a Thermal Cut-Out safety switch. In the event of boiling dry or if the temperature exceeds safe levels, the safety switch will automatically cut the power off. The Safety Cut-out switch is located on the underside of the appliance, between the back feet. WARNING: Ensure the appliance has cooled down and is empty before resetting the switch, as it may need to be tipped slightly to gain access to the switch. To reset the safety switch, after a sufficient cool-down period: 1. Unscrew the cap of the Safety Cut-Out reset switch. 2. Press the exposed reset button until it clicks. 3. The safety switch is now reset. 4. Replace the cap 5. The appliance can be filled with water and used as normal. Page 4 of Birko Bain Marie - April 2012 v1.01

5 Cleaning, Care and Maintenance Switch off the power and disconnect from the mains. Ensure the unit is always switched off and unplugged whilst cleaning, maintaining or moving. 3BThe Bain Marie should be cleaned after each day s operation; however it may require to be cleaned more often depending on daily use. Allow the Bain Marie to be cool before commencing. 4BHOT LIQUIDS AND FOOD WILL BURN. Empty the water basin, and clean after each use. Pans and lids can be removed to be cleaned. The bean Marie can be wiped down with a damp cloth. Do not immerse the Bain Marie in water or use high pressure jets to clean. Warm soapy water is recommended for cleaning. Cleaning agents after prolonged use can damage stainless steel. Safety *If the power cord is damaged, it must be replaced by Birko Service Agent or Recommended Qualified Technician in order to avoid a hazard. *To avoid over heating or damage to the element, this unit has been installed with a thermal cut out device. If the thermal cut out device has tripped, follow the reset instructions on Page 2. *The Birko Bain Marie does not contain any user-serviceable parts. Only Birko dealers or recommended qualified technicians should carry out repairs if necessary. *Birko takes every care to ensure that all products are safe. Steel cutting procedures used to manufacture these items may result in sharp edges. These sharp edges are removed to the best of our ability, however we still insist the operator takes care when in contact with metal edges. *Switch off the power to and disconnect it from the mains whilst cleaning, maintaining, resetting or moving. *This appliance is not intended for use by persons (Including Children) with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, unless they have been given supervision or instruction concerning use of the appliance by a person responsible for their safety. *Children should be supervised to ensure they do not play with the appliance.
