1 amuse A Leadership Journey for Girl Scout Juniors Girl Scouts Overview Mission: Build girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place. (p. 4 in Adult Guide [AG]) Three keys to leadership: Discover, Connect, Take Action (p. 6 AG) About Juniors: 4 th -5 th Grade; important key characteristics of this age group found on p. 11 AG Helpful Girl Scout Traditions: See pp AG This Journey Stories + Trying on Roles = 2 fun ways to build girls leadership (pp. 8-9 AG) How it works: Girl led, Learning by doing, Cooperative learning (pp AG) There are opening and closing ceremonies incorporated into every sample session. (These are good for consistent structure, to help the girls know when things are starting and ending, and how to behave.) Recruit fellow staff, friends, community partners, etc to help you and to offer the girls new perspectives! (See pp AG & review journey sample sessions for ideas for special guests) Three potential leadership awards (pp AG): Reach Out! Award o Earn by: keeping a Casting Call Log and do an interview or a panel discussion Speak Out! Award (handy chart on P. 55) o Earn by: completing 3 Speak Out! activities, and team up to choose a stereotype and create and tell a story to help stop it Try Out! Award o Earn by: keeping a Roll Call Log and choose and complete two other Try Out! activities
