1 AFTER SCHOOL CLUBS QUARTER 2 October 31, 2016 Dear Parents and Guardians: We are excited to announce that beginning Monday, November 7, 2016, Franklin Academy will begin the after school club program for the second quarter, which will be available to students in grades K-8. Please note the following guidelines regarding club registration: Club registration will now take place online at Elementary Club Registration for students in grades K-5 and Middle School Club Registration for students in grades 6-8. Click on the hyperlinks to register. Registration for quarter 2 clubs will begin at 8:00 AM on Monday, October 31 st and will end at 10:00 PM on Thursday, November 3 rd. Once the registration window has closed, the system will not permit additional enrollment. Club availability is on a first-come, first-served basis, and space is limited. Participants will receive a confirmation once registered. The confirmation must be printed and submitted to the classroom teacher with payment by 9:00 AM on Friday, November 4th. Payment must be attached to the confirmation . Payments are accepted in the form of a check or money order only. No online payments. A SEPARATE CHECK or money order MUST be submitted for each club and each child. The club name and child s name must be written in the memo line of each check or money order. Funds are not transferrable. Club changes are not permitted after Monday, November 7 th. There are no refunds after Monday, November 7 th. Siblings not enrolled in a club may not wait at school for the club to end. They must be picked up at their regular dismissal time or late pick-up fees will be assessed. There are no clubs on early release days or school holidays. Participation in after school clubs is a privilege. Behavior expectations of students participating in an after school club remain the same as during the regular school day. Students who do not follow the policy will be dismissed from the club and their club fee is non-refundable. Club sponsors will contact the parents of those students who will be participating as well as those who will not be participating by Friday, November 5, Please be advised that parents and guardians will be responsible for picking up their child on the days their club meets, as transportation is not provided. Elementary parents must pick-up their child by 4:00 PM and middle school parents must pick-up their child by 5:00 PM. There will be a $1.00 per minute, per child, charge for late pick-up. Students will be picked up on the east (bus) side of the building for club pick-up. Students picked up late two (2) times from club will be removed from the club. No refund will be provided. We look forward to providing your child with a unique opportunity for enrichment!

ELEMENTARY CLUB DESCRIPTIONS QUARTER 2 NAME AMERICAN SIGN LANGUAGE (BEGINNERS) AMERICAN SIGN LANGUAGE (INTERMEDIATE) BON APPÉTTIT CHEERLEADING CHESS DANCE DASH AND DOT PROGRAMMING CLUB DESCRIPTION AND GOALS Let s learn to sign! This club will teach students the basics of American Sign Language and the deaf community through different songs, games, and conversation topics. Students will also have a chance to perform in the Winter Show. You ve got some signs, let s learn more! This club is for students who have already taken this club last year and are ready to enhance their signing vocabulary. Students will be performing in the Franklin Academy Winter Show. This club helps boys and girls in grades 3 5 explore their creativity and develop life-long skills as they learn to make fun snacks, increase their self-confidence, and apply math and reading skills. Having a skilled helper in the kitchen means quality time as a family! Calling all Bulldog Cheerleaders! Cheerleading helps young girls build self-esteem and confidence with routine, endurance, and flexibility involvement. The Cheer club will consist of a T.E.A.M of girls who motivate and encourage each other to be better versions of themselves with FUN cheers, routines, and chants! Materials fees will be used towards team shirt and pom-poms. GO BULLDOGS! The goal of the Chess Club is to enhance students playing skills in a fun environment. Whether the student wants to prepare to play in tournaments or just for fun, chess club has something for everyone. Dance club builds teamwork in an atmosphere of self-discovery. It will also teach children different dance moves to a variety of songs. Dash and Dot are characters that ignite curiosity and confidence while providing fun ways to learn essential skills of collaboration, communication, and digital literacy.

4 GAME CODING GOSPEL CHOIR KEYBOARDING KICKBALL KOLOR KIDZ/ KOLOR CREW LITTLE CHEFS LEGO LEGO NXT ROBOTICS LEGO ROBOTICS MUSIC NOVELS, NOSH, & A MOVIE REC ROOM SPORTS CODING STORIES AND A PROJECT Students design and program their own video games using code and computer science. Learn important gaming concepts while building racing games, mazes, and other fun games. As we prepare for the Franklin Academy Winter Show presentation, your child will come sing and learn about harmony, rhythm, and performance with music that is influenced by soul and R&B. Materials fee will go toward the purchase of performance accessories including bows and bowties for the Winter Show. Keyboarding is an expected tool for communication. In this club we will focus on proper technique, fluency, and speed. Proper keyboarding is essential to avoid improper finger placement. This is not only a fun club, but a necessary skill. Students will be taught the basic fundamentals of kickball. This club promotes teamwork and sportsmanship. Kickball is definitely the greatest game ever created for elementary students, so meet me on the field and let s have some fun! Come join me in an exciting class where you will be able to make art from many things like salt, empty soda bottles, and more! You can do all of this and learn about different art materials. I am so happy and excited to get started, are you? This club helps boys and girls in grades 1 2 explore their creativity and develop life-long skills as they learn to make fun snacks, increase their self-confidence, and apply math and reading skills. Having a skilled helper in the kitchen means quality time as a family! What child doesn t love Legos? Lego club is designed to develop spatial intelligence and encourage creativity. Past projects have included: mini-figure zip lines, engineering a bridge (How many pennies can it hold?), sinking submarines, a variety of vehicles, animals, and whatever their imaginations develop. Come for some great fun! Students will work in groups of 3 to program Lego NXT Robots to solve various challenges on a playing board. Students will use code, Lego motors, sensors, and microprocessors to bring their robots to life. If you like engineering, math, and science, this is the club for you. Lego MindStorms are here! As said by Lego, The Robot Educator is a simple, quick-to-build robot that students will have in their hands ready to learn the basics of robotics. This learning tool is designed to take students through the essentials of programming, data logging, and hardware. Legos and robots together! Do you like to sing, dance, and have fun? Then come join Music Club! This club will focus on singing and performance skills while preparing for the Franklin Academy Winter Show. Come be a part of the group that shines! We will read books by R. Dahl, discuss in book club form and then watch the movie. We will compare the book and the movie. Examples of the books we will focus on are as follows: James and the Giant Peach, Matilda and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Books will be provided. Rec Room Club is a safe, relaxed environment for students to hang with old friends or make new ones while playing their favorite games. Children will choose from a collection of games and are also welcome to bring their own (board games, Pokemón cards, hand-held technology or any other activity that is age appropriate). Per the Franklin Academy Parent Handbook: If any of these items are brought to school, and then lost or stolen, the school is NOT responsible for the loss. Students may drop off any personal belongings or technology to Ms. Parks classroom the morning of the club, in a bag labeled with their first and last name. Students use computer science to stimulate extreme sports, make their own fitness gadget commercial, and create commentary for a big sporting event. Learn about us and use the tech concepts that are improving sports. Children will explore The Magic Treehouse: Mummies in the Morning. We will discuss and learn about Egypt and each child will create a sarcophagus. Books will be provided. WEIRD SCIENCE Do you love science? Do you love to get your hands dirty? Well then Weird Science is the place for you! Hands-on, exciting science experiments. This is your last opportunity for Weird Science club with Ms. Parks. Don t miss the magic! WEIRD SCIENCE JR. Whether the student wants to prepare to play in tournaments or just for fun, chess club has something for everyone. The club will provide members the opportunity to grow in their faith and to develop into dynamic leaders on campus and in the community. The purpose of the club is to increase self-esteem and moral foundation of self and peers. We will also build on being able to encourage friends to understand the importance of living in relationship with God. The football club teaches students the basic fundamentals of the game, while focusing on teamwork. The club does this through the use of team building activities. Learning how to work as part of a team is a skill that is useful in all aspects of life! Do you think you have what it takes to be the next great Graphic Arts Designer? Do you want to learn how to create mini movies? Come learn how to create your own mini videos, website, posters, and much more! We will use programs such as Windows MovieMaker, Kizoa, and Wix. Can you Whip? Can you Nae, Nae?? Learn the latest moves from Hip Hop dance today! Have fun and get a great workout in a clean and authentic dance environment!
