3 WELCOME TO WARPSTORM Hello and welcome to Warpstorm. A real sixth edition event as not only do we celebrate a new ruleset but indeed our own sixth year of Warpstorm. As in previous years, the november tournament aims to provide fun and challenging missions, some good price support and above all a good day of wargaming. This booklet contains all the information you will need to participate in this event. It is divided into two parts for ease of reference: the general information which you are reading now, and the mission pack at the back. Read it well, and you might find your own picture on the back cover of next year s rulespack. Feeding the dredges Nothing comes free these days, but we at least try to make our drinks very reasonably priced. Softdrinks are 1, beers range between 1,20 and 2. For lunch, different snacks will be available at equally attractive prices. Navigating the Warpstorm Ask your astropath to guide you to Nieuwlandstraat 76, 8400 Oostende. If you enter the city by car from the motorway, take the third exit at the big roundabout. Follow the two-lane street until you reach a church in the middle of the road. Torture Equipment Each player should bring the equipment necessary to participate in the tournament. The club cannot provide any of the items below. Be sure to check the list below before leaving for the tournament to see if you are not missing anything; a 1750 points army (preferably painted) 3 objective markers (ideally roughly on a 25mm base-size) 1 extra army list A copy of the mission set A copy of the Warhammer 40K Rulebook (6th edition) The most recent codex AND FAQ s for your army Any reference sheets should you wish to use them Dice, Ruler and Templates Pen and paper Superglue (D oh! It happens...) Pocket change to exchange for delights at the bar Our tamed Great Deceiver Jotish can be lured with a fresh Keyte if you forget anything, but the organisation cannot take responsibility for any bizarre consequences! Armylists An approved copy of this list will be handed to you at the registration desk on the day of the tournament. All army lists will be checked for errors and consistency, and these army lists are the only ones that may be used during the tournament. The deadline for sending your army list is 10 november Archon Orders - Spend up to 1750 points on your army, using only one standard Force Organization Chart - Adhere to all limitations specified in your army s Codex,

4 - Use one of the allowed armies (see Designer notes of the harlequins), - Use a maximum of one special character (be it a named character, unique choice, named model unit upgrade,...). When in doubt, please contact us for information. - Only use official FAQ s that are currently available on the Games Workshop website, - Counts As conversions can be used, if it is clearly explained and used the same in all missions. - Allies are allowed, following the provisions in the 6th edition rulebook. - Fortifications are allowed (see below) Fortifications The fortifications from the 6th edition rulebook are allowed. This means any items brought must be roughly the same size and must have its weapons in the same place. As the terrain setup is fixed for the duration of the tournament, a piece of fortification must be placed without moving any terrain pieces. If there is no space for the fortification, it cannot be deployed. Pre-raid checklist The tournament is held over 3 battles, each lasting a maximum of 2 hours preceded by a warming up period of 15 minutes. In round one, your opponent will be chosen randomly from those participants that are not a member of your club, while round two and three will use a ranked system to choose your opponent. Where possible we will try to choose adversaries whom you haven t played against that day, and will assign a different table each time. Each battle you play a different, set scenario as described further in this document. Be prepared! Read the mission descriptions carefully so you are fully aware of all special rules that apply, so you can plan ahead. 15 minutes before the end of the battle, a Last Call will tell you that battles should be entering the final stages. This ensures that everyone has enough time to play an equal number of turns as their opponent. Late arrivals will play each other after registration, or will be assigned to a reserve player. Raider Embarking Each battle is preceded by a 15 minute warm-up period, in which you can: Discuss the models in each others armies, establish counts-as rules and other important parts of the armies, Discuss the gaming table regarding scenery, possible problems you foresee etc, Discuss the mission together. During the raid You and your opponent play the battle. Viewers and supporters may not interfere with any tactical comments etc. Judges will interfere when they are asked a question by you or your opponent or if they see a problem, but should not give tactical advice. Should a problem arise, the following steps should be taken to resolve the issue: - review the rule in the main rulebook or the relevant Codex/FAQ, - agree upon a solution that both players support, - roll a D6 if you want to quickly resolve the issue, - call a judge in case none of the above solves the issue. The judge s decision is final. The battle continues and the result of the decision remains, even if you discuss the situation with the judges after the battle over a drink at the bar, or if another judge would take a different approach. After the raid Both players determine the result of the battle together. Afterwards, you fill in a battle report, signed by both players, and bring it to the Adeptus table, where the results will be calculated into the total tournament result. These battle reports must be handed to the Adeptus table immediately following the battle. Failure to deposit the report will mean that no points will be awarded for the battle. All results will be put up on display for 10 minutes afterwards. Review your own result to make sure all is correct. The organization cannot be held responsible for errors in the calculation that were not reported during this timeframe. Three set missions are played during the tournament. You can find them at the end of this rules pack. Each mission is worth 25 mission points, and you will enter this mission score on your battle report and enter it at the Adeptus table. The mission either has 6 game turns or works with random game length. The primary objectives are decisive for the mission. Score better than your opponent and you win the battle, no matter how small the difference is. A win results in 5 points to the winner A draw results in 2 points for each player

5 The remainder of the 25 mission points can be gained by scoring primary, secondary or tertiary objectives. The latter ones are familiar and are the ones from the 40K rulebook. The others are specific. Army Points Each mission, you and your opponent calculate the amount of points killed in each army. These points are called army points. You get the points killed from your opponents army and vice versa. Full points of each each destroyed unit Half points cost of each squad with half models or less Half the point cost of each independent character of monstrous creature with half wounds or less Half the point cost of each vehicle with half HP or less. Tournament points A total of 100 points can be earned in the following categories. The highest scoring player wins Warpstorm Mission Points (0-75) By now you will have figured out that with 75 points, the missions provide the lion s share of the tournament points. Army List (0-5 pts) Was your list entered on time and without errors? Is your list clear and does it distinguish your different units, their equipment and the force slot they occupy, and is there a correct point cost per unit? Army Painting (0-10 pts) (for painting competition, see below!) During the tournament and the lunch break our painting judges will inspect each army. Place your models facing your own table edge during lunch on the table where you played your first battle. The 10 points for painting, basing and marking will be calculated into the overall score. Painted (0-5 pts) Is each of your models fully painted, making use of at least 3 colors? Bases (0-3 pts) Is each of your models based coherently? Unit markings (0-2 pts) Is there a distinction between units by way of markings, painting colors,...? Painting competition (0-20 pts) In addition to the rating above, the armies will be judged in a more detailed manner for the painting competition. Level of Detail (0-6 pts) Did you pay attention to detail? Are there any conversions to the models? Did you use any special painting techniques? X-Factor (0-4 pts) Is your army unique? Do the models catch the judge s eye as being especially well-painted? The resulting full 20 points for painting will be calculated to determine the painting prize winner, yet will not be counted in the tournament result. Note that an army cannot win the best painted prize more than once, unless considerable changes have been made to the painted models. In any event, no player will win the painting competition twice in a row. Important: you may place a note with your displayed army that holds 3 topics you specifically want the judges to pay attention to in your army, for example: 1. tank weathering 2. special character highlighting 3. unit X conversions. Penalty s (0-10 pts) If players resort to unsporting behaviour (i.a. excessive discussions, stalling, cheating) during the missions, the judges have the right to hand out penalties, which will be taken from these points. As we strongly believe that everyone comes to the tournament to have fun and friendly battles, these are essentially 10 free points for all players In addition to this, the organisation retains the right to exclude a person from the tournament and refuse further access to the building in case a person s behaviour is unacceptable for an event as Warpstorm. Violence, bullying, theft and intentionally damaging someone s belongings will never be tolerated. Sexually oriented remarks towards the judges will be tolerated within the limits of decency. Designer notes of the harlequins Home-made fortifications can be great from a modelling point of view, but can present challenges in gameplay. Therefore, we have chosen to use a standardised version, which is the one produced by GW and discribed in the 6th edition rulebook. We have devised the mission to enable players to find alternative ways of scoring points and even gain a solid points haul when victory proves illusive. Warpstorm is about thinking about tactics and fighting for every possible point. The old victory points system has been renamed army points as the former term is now used in a different way in the rulebook. We continue to use the system of army points as it helps nicely when people are tied for tournament points. We want to encourage painted armies, yet don t want to penalise those of us who don t have Michaelangelo skills with the paintbrush. Tabletop quality will therefore (almost always) result in 10 points, while the spectacular armies can battle it out in the painting competition, which adds further categories. Mission Pack

7 Battlefield: Vanguard strike MISSION I - BLOOD TIDE Players roll of to see who starts deploying the objectives. Both players then alternate deploying 6 objectives (2 of these are worth 3BP, 2 are worth 2BP and 2 are worth 1BP). Objectives can t be deployed within 6 of the table edge or within 12 of each other. Deployment Players roll to determine the warlord traits and then roll of to see which player chooses whether to deploy first or second. First Turn The player who deployed his army first, goes first unless his opponent can Seize the Initiative Game length The game lasts exactly 6 turns (no variable game length), or until time runs out Victory conditions Primary objectives The objectives captured directly count towards the Battle points. An extra 5 battle points are gained if you re total is at least 3 higher than your opponent s. When the difference in battle points is 2 or less eacht player gains an additional 2 battle points. Secondary objectives 5 Battle points are rewarded to the player who destroyed scored at least more than 300 army points more than his opponent, both players get 2 if the difference in army points is less than 300. Tertiary objectives 1 battle point goes to the player for each of the following objectives: Slay the warlord, First blood and Linebreaker. Mission special rules: Night Fighting, Reserves MISSION III - BARBICAN Battlefield: Table quarters 3 objectives are placed on the table according to the positions on the diagram. One objective is placed in the center and one in each table quarter that is not used as deployment zone. Deployment Players roll to determine the warlord traits and then roll of to choose a table quarter as the deployment zone (see diagram). Players cannot deploy any models, including infiltrators, within 6 of the objectives. First Turn The player who deployed his army first, goes first unless his opponent can Seize the Initiative Game length Variable game length, or until time runs out Victory conditions Primary objectives At the start of turn 2 at the end of each player turn count the number of objectives controlled by that player, the player receives 1 battle point for each objective controlled this way per turn (up to a maximum of 12 in total). For the purposes of this mission fast attack choices are also considered scoring (flying fast attack choices or vehicles can never be scoring). If a player ends with at least 3 more battle points than his opponent he is rewarded with 5 extra battle points, otherwise both players get an extra 2 battle points. Secondary objectives One extra battle point is awarded for every scoring unit destroyed (troops or fast attack), up to a maximum of 5 battle points. Tertiary objectives 1 battle point goes to the player for each of the following objectives: Slay the warlord, First blood and Linebreaker. Mission special rules: Night Fighting, Reserves Battlefield: Dawn of war MISSION II - STEAMROLLER Deployment Players roll to determine the warlord traits and then roll of to see which player chooses whether to deploy first or second. First Turn The player who deployed his army first, goes first unless his opponent can Seize the Initiative Game length Variable game length, or until time runs out Victory conditions Primary objectives Each player receives 3 battle points for each table quarter where he has more scoring units than the opponent (denial units do not matter for this mission). If one player controls more table quarters than his opponent, this player receives an extra 5 battle points. If both players control the same number of table quarters they both receive 2 battle points. Secondary objectives Players count up the number of units they destroyed of the opponent. The player who destroyed the most units is awarded 1 battle point for each unit he destroyed more than his opponent (up to a maximum of 5). Barbican deployment Tertiary objectives 1 battle point goes to the player for each of the following objectives: Slay the warlord, First blood and Linebreaker.
