2 Operation Red Nose November - December Operation Red Nose is a nation-wide program dedicated to the fight against impaired driving. It is a free, confidential, volunteer-driven service offered to any individual who has been drinking or who simply does not feel fit to drive his/her vehicle home. With the support of sponsors, this service is provided completely free to the community but all donations received will benefit the YMCA Strong Kids campaign. Operation Red Nose helps make a difference in two very different social causes all at one time by reducing the devastating effects of impaired driving and making roads safer in our community over the holidays, and all donations collected will help the YMCA ensure people of all ages are healthier and more productive regardless of their background or financial situation. Operation Red Nose operates for eight nights throughout the holiday season. When a call is received at headquarters, three volunteers are dispatched in the escort vehicle to go to the pick-up location. One volunteer (Designated Driver), accompanied by a second volunteer (Navigator), drives the client and any passengers to the destination of their choice, in the client s vehicle. The third volunteer (Escort Driver) follows in the escort car and, at the end of the trip, takes the whole team to the next call. 6 Group Volunteering Join Operation Red Nose by volunteering as a team for one or multiple evenings. Operation Red Nose invites you register individually or as a team by encouraging your co-workers, friends and family to join you! Volunteering with Operation Red Nose is not only a unique and fun experience, but it also makes a significant impact on the safety of our community. Checks with the client to see insurance documentation. Ensures vehicle is cleared of snow/ice and is fit for driving. Must be 21 years of age or older. Must have valid driver s license. Navigator Rides with the Driver in the client s vehicle. Communicates with dispatch by cell phone to coordinate the next pick-up location or to report any incidents. Completes the Telephone/Dispatch Forms; records times, distance traveled, number of passengers, amount of donations, etc. Submits documentation & donations to Cashier/Office Manager nightly. Must be 19 years of age or older. Escort Escorts the driver and navigator to and from each client destination. Must have own vehicle to do escorting. Must be 19 years of age or older. Must have valid driver s license and car insurance.
