3 3RD Annual Puerto Rico Fall Cancer Symposium CONFERENCE DESCRIPTION This is a two-day course designed for medical oncologists and hematologists, radiation oncologists, surgical oncologists, oncology nurses, and healthcare professionals in cancer care. General practitioners (internal medicine and family medicine) will have the benefit of a review of the standard of care and new developments in cancer therapy. Residents in training and fellows from these specialties are encouraged to attend. Topics in breast cancer, lung cancer, gastrointestinal (GI) malignancies, genito-urinary (GU) cancers, melanoma, brain tumors, head and neck cancers, and hematological malignancies including multiple myeloma, chronic lymphocytic leukemia, chronic myeloid leukemia and non-hodgkin s lymphoma will be presented. There will also be a special session devoted to the area of supportive care in oncology, with emphasis on bone metastasis and management of chemotherapy related side effects. The areas of focus for this conference will include the review of current standards of care in the treatment of these malignancies and new developments in these oncology and hematological areas. There will be a lot of emphasis on molecular diagnosis and individualization of cancer therapy base on molecular phenotypes. Presentations from latest national (ASCO 2013 or ASH 2012) and International (ESMO 2013) meetings will be reviewed and guidelines of cancer care will be emphasized. The participants in the meeting will have a chance not only to learn the most recent management in these clinical areas but also personal interaction with our panel of experts in the field during our question and answer sessions and breakout sessions. CONFERENCE OBJECTIVES Upon completion of this course attendees will be able to: Understand the latest advances in chemotherapy treatments in the areas of breast cancer, lung cancer, GI malignancies, GU cancers, melanoma, brain tumors, head and neck cancers, and hematological malignancies including multiple myeloma, chronic lymphocytic leukemia, chronic myeloid leukemia and non-hodgkin s lymphoma. Evaluate the current standards of care in the treatment of hematological malignancies as well as solid tumors. Apply molecular genetic analyses and results into the therapeutic decision making of these malignancies. Understand the novel mechanisms of action and clinical applications of novel targeted agents approved or in clinical development for the treatment of malignant diseases. Recognize complications from novel therapeutic agents or combined treatment regimens and how to apply the most appropriate supportive care and management in these instances. ACCREDITATION The Medical Educator Consortium is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians. CREDIT HOURS (CME) The Medical Educator Consortium, designates this live activity for a maximum of 12.5 hours AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s). Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
